you're just too dull to refute or even comprehend what I've just said, that is why you shift your attack on me and my vocabulary rather than my argument (Ad Hominem), sad really, If you must know I am talking about Kant and the metaphysics of morals, you might try to read the Critique of Practical Reason, read it, may do your "intellect" some good lol, I'm quite disappointed I thought atheists were supposed to be smart, guess this proves the contrary
"People who who feel powerless often use superstition to give them a "sense" of security."
-- of course the conclusion you've reached only reflects the belligerence of your thinking and not a matter of rational inquiry, to equate superstition to religious beliefs is a logical fallacy of equivocation and a straw man argument of Ad Baculum
Amazing how we have come from this to the godless rotting cesspool that we are today. What a much better nation America used to be, our best days are far behind us.
It's never supposed to be our best life now. History repeats itself.
Jesus said, "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18 ESV)
Jesus said, "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18 ESV)
For these people who like to quote Jesus:
There isn't a single word written in the bible by Jesus or anyone who ever met him. No eye witness accounts from contemporary sources. Nothing.
The fact is that you don't know what Jesus said or did... or if he even existed.

"There isn't a single word written in the bible by Jesus or anyone who ever met him. No eye witness accounts from contemporary sources. Nothing."
Just for your info., whether you believe the Bible or not, read the gospels account of Jesus. There are four unique points of view on Jesus time here on earth.
The gospels were written between 40 and 70 years after Jesus died. None of these authors met Jesus. There are NO first hand accounts of Jesus in the bible.
Mark was written first and the rest of the gospels are mostly re-writes that don't agree with each other.
For example, Matthew is the only one to claim that, at the crucifixion, dead people emerged from their graves to walk around Jerusalem. This "miracle" escaped the notice of other gospel writers and all living historians.
It's obvious you've never really read the bible because all your observations of scriptures are incorrect.
The majority of the worlds major scientific discoveries were made by creationists: physicists such as Newton, Faraday, Maxwell and Kelvin; chemists such as Boyle, Dalton and Ramsay; or biologists such as Ray, Linnaeus, Mendel, and Pasteur.
Why else would anyone bother themselves with starting a theological discussion on an apollo video such as this?
The answer, is, and I will repeat:
1- You are upset (intimidated at the thought of a Creator.) As well as frustrated that someone would even consider reading a passage from Genesis while ORBITING THE MOON
2- Foolish for choosing this as your medium to display your beliefs
You belittle yourself by coming here to put your animosity on display
"I will repeat: 1- You are upset (intimidated at the thought of a Creator.)"
And you will continue to be WRONG because you know NOTHING about me.
I am not an atheist. I am agnostic. I don't believe in the creator of the bible, the koran or any other man-made religion, but I believe a creator is possible.
Now, please, go back to judging me and calling me foolish. Then, see what your Big Book of Jewish Fairy Tales says about judging others and calling them fools.
40 years ago we lost Martin, Bobby and our hopes were vanishing with the racial riots and viet nam. Three men went to the moon not knowing if they would return. They gave us hope and their christmas message from the orbit of the moon saved 1968. I hope that your heart will find (evidence or not) that child that was born in a manger 2000 or more years ago. Blessings to all the good people of the Earth.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No... You need to remember that there is no evidence that a babe was ever born in a manger. None.
Go sell your idiotic superstitions somewhere else. I'll believe in Jesus when you can point to some historical evidence for him.
In particular, I'd like extra-biblical evidence that a.) He performed miracles, b.) He rose from the dead, c.) He ascended into heaven, and d.) he was the only son of God.
Oh, by the way, you guys trashing this moment probably weren't there when this happened. You are the ones who will take this world and your ignorance down with you. God help you all. Just remember what the babe in the manger grew up to teach--peace, love and tolerance. You are the ones who don't get it.
How ironic that thousands of people used science to build rockets that would launch them into space... and then marked the occasion by reading a passage from the Old Book of Jewish Superstitions.
I find if fascinating that human beings can be so educated and yet remain loyal to the fairy tales they were taught as children.
I can barely comprehend SCIENTISTS reading from a book that features miracles, talking animals and a geocentric universe.
The fact that 4 billion people don't believe in Jesus doesn't change the fact that they read His Words in that flight. Those words ("In the Beggining *GOD*") captured the momnt better than anything else. Oh, there's no shortage of evidence for the God of the Bible. Free will, morality, laws of science and logic. There are more, but those aer suficient.
As a Christian, it amazes me that educated people believe in Santa Claus, elves, reindeer, leprechauns, the tooth fairy, etc.......yet it's asking too much of themselves to believe in an Almighty God who loves them so much that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for their sins.
Where are these "educated" people who believe in Santa, elves, leprechauns and the Tooth Fairy?
Is it too much for you to believe in the one true God, Allah, and his prophet, Muhammed? It is? Is that because you don't believe in Allah and Muhammed? You don't? Is that because there's no evidence for them?
Flip that coin and you'll see why 4 billion people don't believe in your God or Jesus.
Look at the BIG PICTURE from above. Don't look OUT at the world from inside your bubble.
@sergiomats Doesn't make it true at all. The Gospel of John was written 45-50 years AFTER Christ died, and it is the only Gospel that differs from the other three. It is not knownwho authored the "Gospel of John" or what/who "John" it was.
@iamlost2 Ok. All History is written AFTER the events happened, so your argument doesn't hold water. What kind of "logic" is that? The question is not WHEN was it written but IF it is true. Is it true that Jesus is the Creator of all things as the BIble says or not?
@sergiomats Truth does not make it true if only one "person" said it in a book written and translated thousands of times a thousand years ago. Jesus is not God, and "Jesus" said he was not god, but the son meaning we all are. Jesus represents, supposedly, a good righteous person, a HUMAN being, not a supernatural God.
@iamlost2 Uh...Jesus said he was not god? How about "I and the Father are One." and "He who has seen Me has seen the Father."? And why crucify a guy unless he has claimed to be God? He wasn't crucified for being a "good righteous person." He was crucified because He allegedly blasphemed. I'm not saying you have to believe it, but that IS what is recorded in the New Testament.
@LunarTuner Just like married partners would say they are "one", meaning together. Not the same. Translation is lost. Get it? Jesus cannot be God, because he was a man, a human.
@iamlost2, that's not apparently how the Pharisees and religious community interpreted Jesus. For that reason, they crucified him. Why didn't Jesus use your argument? Because He never denied their charge that He had claimed to be God. To say that He could not be God because He was a man is like saying, God can't...ANYTHING! If you want to say there is no God, that's one thing, but if you say God can exist, how can you limit Him?
@LunarTuner No, in fact Jesus may have very well have been a Pharisees. He taught the same things they believed in, but differed on a few things. That's when the sects developed. It doesn't mean there is no God, but that Jesus is NOT God. Many Pharisees did not believe Jesus was the messiah, a messiah is not a god. The part written in the NT was well after Jesus' speeches to the Pharisees, and to divide the sects further. God is the same one Muslims, Jews and Christians believe.
the 7 churches are muslem states are the 7 seals of revelation the he is lo and they had an now i wonder what he will do to laodicia saudi arabia sardis is egypt pergamos is packistan they had an earth quake
the 7 churches are muslem states are the 7 seals of revelation the he is loosening them now i wonder what he will do to laodicia saudi arabia sardis is egypt pergamos is packistan they had an earth quake recently
@LunarTuner They denied him as the Messiah, not god, because Jesus did not believe he was God either. Jesus may very well have been a Pharisees himself. There was different sects of Judaism, and there was a lot of political and elitism around which the Pharisees were against, just like Jesus. Anyway, if you read up- on scholarship, not a Bible, you will learn more. There is one God, not two. The God of the Muslims, Jews and Christians.
@iamlost2, Matt 26:63, 65: 'The high priest said to him, "...Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." 64"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. 65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy..."' The Sanhedrin interpreted his reply as a claim to deity! Thus "blasphemy." Claiming to be just another "son"? NO ONE thought he was saying that! And there is not a shred of evidence that Jesus was a Pharisee!
the massiah is in the world today isaiah 19 revelation 3 he makes a promise to the church of sardis now that he is in the world we will see a lot more earth quakes

Does people still think this is real? the moon landing have been proven fake again and again. see the documentary called: a funny thing happened on the way to the moon, and see how you have been eating lies for a long time.
This brought back a wonderful memory, as an 11 year old boy on Christmas Eve, watching the coolest, most exciting thing ever! It's too bad that some people feel they need to throw cold water on it.
@mrbadgerpants Oh boy, I DO love having my intelligence questioned by asshats who can't even spell the insults they throw. If you look back, that post was from a year ago, before the @ system appeared. It was a response to some retard saying we couldn't get to the moon because there's no oxygen in space for rocket fuel to burn with.
Anders was a rather dogmatic, very conservative Catholic, prior to the flight, who found his rather narrow beliefs mortally challenged by the smallness of earth in the vast universe. Borman and Lovell had decidedly opposite reactions and found their spiritual lives enriched by what they saw. The book "Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8" recounts the whole story of the flight, including this. It's a fascinating account of the flight and well-researched.
I remember watching it on TV. My aunt worked at the cape and sent me tons of memorabilia from all of the flights, including a medallion minted from a sample carried around the moon on their flight. Sadly a classmate stole them.
sorry witness2history, you can have your rather LAME "dogmatic, very conservative, narrow beliefs" labels back, they don't fly, they don't fit and never will.

I remember 1968. It was an extraordinary year. Viet Nam, Martin Luther King's and Bobby Kennedy's assasinations, race riots, the Chicago Democratic Convention (and riots).
There were probably some other good things that year -- but Apollo 8's Christmas message is the only one I remember.
I know there are other good things to spend our money on than the space program - but the Apollo program certainly had a high enough return on investment that we should continue to reach for the stars.
There is nothing positive in the quran. I hope you are offended. You have to have at least a double digit IQ before entering the space program. Sorry.......
To all the people who think the landings were faked. Get yourself a good telescope and go point it at the moon one night. The landing sites are so well documented and mapped, go FIND THE SITES!!! Everything is still up there!!!
The landing sites can't be seen. But there is undisputable evidence that we did go. People who beleive they were faked lack faith in the true potential of mankind.
Very true. It was a bit of an exxageration but since the sites are so well mapped and documented.... The other thing is that something like this is harder to fake and keep quiet than it is to go and actually do.
You can actualy proof the landings. They left mirrors there wich still can be targetted by some strong Lasers for messuremen purposses. And if you don´t beleve me watch the Alpha centauri eppisode about the moon landing!
My neighbor was in the Navy at the time, and his ship was among those in the recovery area for this mission. They were all given a special medallion for it.
Ugh, people...what ever you believe, gosh just dont fight. Being 16, i would have LOVED to be alive while this happened. I love astronomy :] my big passion. This is something historic :] i never will never think a human being can fake something like this and actually tell the world that it happened. not fake.
If you actually believe it was faked, I am pretty sure you've never been to a launch of a Saturn V or a Shuttle. As someone who has, I would be more impressed if it was a fake... because from fourteen miles away, that's one heck of a video screen and projector being used in daylight hours.
So the whole launch is fake too? I suppose you think the earth is flat. As for the message that they gave, they probably would be fired today because the government is so blasted corrupt.
It's moronic to think this was faked. I was there when Apollo 8 was launched and you can't fake the fantastic power and sophistication of the Saturn V. Isaw and felt it. If the Soviets had suspected it was a fake, they would have glaldy and loudly cried "foul."
My understanding is that the three astronauts planned this, NASA not involved. Got too be pretty smart too be an astronaut. Best tribute while looking back at Earth from 1/4 million miles.
Occam's Razor - it's ironic that it'd be harder to fake than to actually do. It was done. Not believing it is your loss. Visit the Clavius site, if you're not convinced, then nothing can convince you.
So powerful. God bless the world.

you're just too dull to refute or even comprehend what I've just said, that is why you shift your attack on me and my vocabulary rather than my argument (Ad Hominem), sad really, If you must know I am talking about Kant and the metaphysics of morals, you might try to read the Critique of Practical Reason, read it, may do your "intellect" some good lol, I'm quite disappointed I thought atheists were supposed to be smart, guess this proves the contrary

For these people who like to quote Jesus:
There isn't a single word written in the bible by Jesus or anyone who ever met him. No eye witness accounts from contemporary sources. Nothing.
The fact is that you don't know what Jesus said or did... or if he even existed.

Just for your info., whether you believe the Bible or not, read the gospels account of Jesus. There are four unique points of view on Jesus time here on earth.
porkyfry 2 years ago
The gospels were written between 40 and 70 years after Jesus died. None of these authors met Jesus. There are NO first hand accounts of Jesus in the bible.
Mark was written first and the rest of the gospels are mostly re-writes that don't agree with each other.
For example, Matthew is the only one to claim that, at the crucifixion, dead people emerged from their graves to walk around Jerusalem. This "miracle" escaped the notice of other gospel writers and all living historians.

It amazes you that people living in the 21st century don't believe a story about a 1st century blood sacrifice? Even when you consider:
Blood sacrifices are ancient and barbaric
There's no historical evidence for the crucifixion or resurrection of Jesus
Even the gospel accounts of the resurrection don't agree with each other
You have no evidence that the god of the bible exists and the gods claimed by other religions don't.
You're amazed people would question this story? Really?

Really? Let's see. Here are some examples from scripture:
Talking animals - Demonstrably False
Geocentric solar system - Demonstrably False
Worldwide flood - Demonstrably False
Earth resting on pillars - Demonstrably False
The bible was written in a pre-scientific era by superstitious people. We don't need these stories anymore.

It's obvious you've never really read the bible because all your observations of scriptures are incorrect.
The majority of the worlds major scientific discoveries were made by creationists: physicists such as Newton, Faraday, Maxwell and Kelvin; chemists such as Boyle, Dalton and Ramsay; or biologists such as Ray, Linnaeus, Mendel, and Pasteur.
fourbyfourblazer 2 years ago
Remind me again... which books of the bible were written by Newton, Faraday, Boyle and Pasteur?
The fact that some of these people may have been religious has NOTHING to do with whether or not the bible is true.
93% of the members of the National Academy of Sciences are ATHEIST. However, that has nothing to do with whether or not the bible is true.
You don't establish truth based on who believes and in what numbers.
And you certainly can't win the "appeal to authority" battle.

Raydo, you are totally missing four's points and making yourself look foolish.
"...which books of the bible were written by Newton, Faraday, Boyle and Pasteur?"
What does that have to do with anything? You are completely missing four's point.
The fact of the matter is: You are upset that someone dared to read the Bible while on an exploration in to God's creation.

I am not attacking you, I am judging you.
You belittle yourself by coming here to put your animosity on display
porkyfry 2 years ago
"I will repeat: 1- You are upset (intimidated at the thought of a Creator.)"
And you will continue to be WRONG because you know NOTHING about me.
I am not an atheist. I am agnostic. I don't believe in the creator of the bible, the koran or any other man-made religion, but I believe a creator is possible.
Now, please, go back to judging me and calling me foolish. Then, see what your Big Book of Jewish Fairy Tales says about judging others and calling them fools.

Good luck with that.

Yeah, sure it's odd that learned people read the Bible in such a special moment. Odd odd odd!

4 billion of the earth's 6 billion people don't believe in Jesus. They should have read from the Koran, the Vedas, the Bhagavad Gita or the Talmud.
Maybe they should have followed the evidence that leads to the one TRUE GOD. The problem is that there's no evidence for any of them.
Educated people know that, but they read it anyway. How Odd!
Raydo97 3 years ago
The fact that 4 billion people don't believe in Jesus doesn't change the fact that they read His Words in that flight. Those words ("In the Beggining *GOD*") captured the momnt better than anything else. Oh, there's no shortage of evidence for the God of the Bible. Free will, morality, laws of science and logic. There are more, but those aer suficient.
sergiomats 3 years ago
As a Christian, it amazes me that educated people believe in Santa Claus, elves, reindeer, leprechauns, the tooth fairy, etc.......yet it's asking too much of themselves to believe in an Almighty God who loves them so much that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for their sins.
Amazing! Amazing!
redeemed2009 3 years ago 2
Where are these "educated" people who believe in Santa, elves, leprechauns and the Tooth Fairy?
Is it too much for you to believe in the one true God, Allah, and his prophet, Muhammed? It is? Is that because you don't believe in Allah and Muhammed? You don't? Is that because there's no evidence for them?
Flip that coin and you'll see why 4 billion people don't believe in your God or Jesus.
Look at the BIG PICTURE from above. Don't look OUT at the world from inside your bubble.

@sergiomats Jesus Christ is not the Creator, God is. Jesus is not God, but the son of God, How can he be both God and the son?
iamlost2 1 year ago
@iamlost2 Iamlost2, how can Jesus not be the Creator if John 1:1-3 says He is?
sergiomats 1 year ago
@sergiomats Doesn't make it true at all. The Gospel of John was written 45-50 years AFTER Christ died, and it is the only Gospel that differs from the other three. It is not knownwho authored the "Gospel of John" or what/who "John" it was.
iamlost2 1 year ago
@iamlost2 Ok. All History is written AFTER the events happened, so your argument doesn't hold water. What kind of "logic" is that? The question is not WHEN was it written but IF it is true. Is it true that Jesus is the Creator of all things as the BIble says or not?
sergiomats 1 year ago
@sergiomats Truth does not make it true if only one "person" said it in a book written and translated thousands of times a thousand years ago. Jesus is not God, and "Jesus" said he was not god, but the son meaning we all are. Jesus represents, supposedly, a good righteous person, a HUMAN being, not a supernatural God.
iamlost2 1 year ago
@iamlost2 Uh...Jesus said he was not god? How about "I and the Father are One." and "He who has seen Me has seen the Father."? And why crucify a guy unless he has claimed to be God? He wasn't crucified for being a "good righteous person." He was crucified because He allegedly blasphemed. I'm not saying you have to believe it, but that IS what is recorded in the New Testament.
LunarTuner 1 year ago
@LunarTuner Just like married partners would say they are "one", meaning together. Not the same. Translation is lost. Get it? Jesus cannot be God, because he was a man, a human.
iamlost2 1 year ago
@iamlost2, that's not apparently how the Pharisees and religious community interpreted Jesus. For that reason, they crucified him. Why didn't Jesus use your argument? Because He never denied their charge that He had claimed to be God. To say that He could not be God because He was a man is like saying, God can't...ANYTHING! If you want to say there is no God, that's one thing, but if you say God can exist, how can you limit Him?
LunarTuner 1 year ago
@LunarTuner No, in fact Jesus may have very well have been a Pharisees. He taught the same things they believed in, but differed on a few things. That's when the sects developed. It doesn't mean there is no God, but that Jesus is NOT God. Many Pharisees did not believe Jesus was the messiah, a messiah is not a god. The part written in the NT was well after Jesus' speeches to the Pharisees, and to divide the sects further. God is the same one Muslims, Jews and Christians believe.

The God of the Muslims, Jews and Christians.
iamlost2 1 year ago
@iamlost2, Matt 26:63, 65: 'The high priest said to him, "...Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." 64"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. 65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy..."' The Sanhedrin interpreted his reply as a claim to deity! Thus "blasphemy." Claiming to be just another "son"? NO ONE thought he was saying that! And there is not a shred of evidence that Jesus was a Pharisee!

Bill Anders once a devout Catholic, felt that the experience "made a mockery" of his beliefs and as a result "abandoned religion" altogether.
tuttt99 3 years ago
Anders was a rather dogmatic, very conservative Catholic, prior to the flight, who found his rather narrow beliefs mortally challenged by the smallness of earth in the vast universe. Borman and Lovell had decidedly opposite reactions and found their spiritual lives enriched by what they saw. The book "Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8" recounts the whole story of the flight, including this. It's a fascinating account of the flight and well-researched.
BTW: I was there for the launch.

There were probably some other good things that year -- but Apollo 8's Christmas message is the only one I remember.
I know there are other good things to spend our money on than the space program - but the Apollo program certainly had a high enough return on investment that we should continue to reach for the stars.
