  • what do you mean by context?

  • What do you say to the student if you didn't understand what they said?

I could understand the girls but I didn't hear some words.

  • Thanks a lot. It very interesting way to get the ss grasp the meaning and be automatized for answering after your own example :

  • The clip suggests that we are about to see how the past perfect is taught and then we get a lesson on the past simple. Also, you haven't replied to the person who reminded you that the present is often used to describe film plots in real world English. Is teh past simple being introduced for the first time here? If so we could focus on habitual action in the past e.g. I washed my hair yesterday, I got home late last night and so on. What did you do yesterday?

  • We've started a TEFL social network where we are trying to build a community of TEFL teachers around the world to meet and share experiences and tips. If anyone is interested take a look at tefl-me.com. It covers lots of areas and has a blog, forum groups individual profiles and a map to indicate your location in the world to help you meet other TEFL teacher when you are on the other side of the world.

  • A great way of doing things. It helps a lot for the beginner.

  • very good teacher! well done

  • don't we normally use the present tense when describing a film plot?

  • Great Thank you Ciaran mccreanor

  • In the example given the past perfect is used, but in the class room the teacher focuses only on the past simple. Was and were, he/she did or didn´t do, not what he/she had done/ hadn´t done etc. Please respond.

  • i wan2 do a tefl course in thailand its £900 though, so not cheap. i wonder if online course is jst as good, for £180. anyone know?

  • man get a life! God's language...your god's language has brought you nowhere. No knowledge no nothing, just religious brain washing. So, keep your Arabic where it belongs: In the desert and learn a language that's of true significance: English!

  • germansiamese.... grow up. A language is a language. it changes nothing, it is ther person that counts. english or arabic doesnt matter. what matters is that you are kind, loving and not nasty like that. I'm ashamed of you and your comments make me embarrassed to be an english speaker

  • something I could realize was how difficult is to understand asian people, they have a very different pronounciation compared to the latin girl, which was easier to understand, maybe it's easier for me to understan her because I'm a spanish speaking man so I can recognize better the sounds the latin girl says. maybe it is because people use to speak with their native language accent and stress.

  • I like the Asian girl next to the one in orange, she is so cute

  • I'm interested taking this class

  • all right man. You have to found the Key. for you exit man.

  • 3:20 damn she told the end of the story, not gonna watch city of angels anymore ;p

  • A big round of applause for the teacher :)

  • @gustopereira yes very good teacher, i googled fet system and found some good english resources over there too

  • Hi , nice job. I have a question was the clss dictated at USA or at a foreign country?

  • Hi Carlos,

It was in the United States.

  • @BridgeTEFL Is it easy to find a job as an English Teacher (consider that you have taken a TEFL course) in the USA?

Which one is the easiest English native speaker ou a non-native speaker?

And what about post-graduation in English Language, is it common in the USA?

  • Very warm and experienced teacher. However, he could have modelled better. Firstly when asking ss what films they have seen, he should have given his own example first. Secondly when asking them to fill in cards, he should have had an example to demonstrate what he wanted. Modelling is a basic of EFL teaching and without it all sorts of misunderstandings arise. Apart from that and a bit of a topic jump from film to events in the students lives, I thought he was a great role model.

  • Hi Kameleonic & 6834033,

Thanks for your comments--those are all really good points. The goal of these videos is not to show a "perfect" class, just a "real" class where not everything always goes as planned and even experienced teachers make mistakes. It's good that you analyzed the video and came up with techniques that could have improved the class. That's exactly what we want people to do with them! :)

  • That's right, there's no relation between the introduction (film) and real life, but I got the point of the video. But he makes a common mistake that all teachs make and you showed it on one of your videos.

He echoes what the st says "She finished her university" and he said the same, and when she said: "brother born" ok he let her finish and then he said "her brother was born", that's ok, but he could encourage her to say the example correctly by her own. If she coudn't then he gives feedback.

  • I don't think the teacher "should have done" all those things, this is a less than 10 minute video! a lot of details can be added in a real class, but in this short excerpt he is just going for the most important parts.

  • i thought the teacher was very sweet and calm and made it very clear what they were do, well done!

  • Good for beginners;)

That icebreaker should have been better introduced and run:D

    Still, decent tutorial for NooBs!

  • Hi! I am an english teacher. Your vedeo will help new teahcers all around the world to improve their teaching style and methods thank you.
