This title hot persuit(next gen) wont match high stakes but im considering.
What sucks is that you can't play against your friend(s) sitting next to you, you have to send him / them home (or to a shop first to purchase a PS if he/they doesn't/don't already have one) and then play against him remotely, probably with a phone on speaker, so you can shout at each other that way....WTF?!? What happend with good games you can play against your mates in the same room??? THE BEST NFS EVER was NFS Hot Pursuit II for PS2, still have it and play it often with mates in same room!
Nice review. Yea, those time trials can be a real bitch. I tried for gold in one time trail, and I tried it 54 times, and my final time was .01 seconds faster the time set for a gold medal...can't cut it any closer than that haha
This "time saver pack" stuff is total bullshit. Getting everything without earning it was called a cheat code back in the day. I should say, a FREE cheat code. Cash grabs are getting old.
This game is fun yet dissapointing to me because it seems repeteitive. though there is 2 story modes after awhile i get sick of doing the seemingly same thing over and over again, most wanted was a much better cop type driving game, and when it comes to a raceing game i'd rather grab one of the Grad Turismo or Forza 3 because of the mass sullection of cars and realizm of the games
whats the point of the emp and spikes if u just get respawned back on the road like nothing happened.....and what's the point of nitro and turbo speed if everyone catches you eventually no matter how fast u go or how far u are??????????????????................dumb game....dumb developers.
@21iunie with emp and spikes you dont get respawned like nothing happened, you take pretty severe damage and you crash. Nitro and turbo help a lot in this game. Turbo helps if you need to get away from the cops immediately albeit temporarily. Try a race without nitro and then try one using nitro, you'll see it makes the world of difference. And you are wrong when you say they catch up to you no matter how fast you go. I've seen racers who are so good that they finish the race untouched.
I was just wondering 'cause I was thinking of maybe getting this for pc: would I need a decent graphics card to play this or would the integrated card on my pc (NVIDIA GeForce 8200) be sufficient to run the game decently?
A must buy. offline is amzing and will entertain you for hours. but with the online added to it youl be there for days! intense graphics and awesome cars. deffibtly the best NFS game to date. starts relitivly easy but difficulty increases as you progress through the game. it can get quite hard but with practice its not impossible
Most fun racing game in a while...even after u completely beat the game, you still have to beat some of ur friends times, so the game is never really over. online play is wicked awesome too. the only thing that could hav made this game absolutely perfect is a splitscreen mode...really wish Criterion had included that...

Don't buy this game used if you don't want to pay an extra $10 to access the online features. EA requires that you enter a key-code printed on a slip of paper in the box to play online. Most likely your local store's used copy won't contain one!
Does anyone know how this compares with Grand Turismo 5? I'm a ps3 player. I'm normally an action/rpg/fps kinda guy but lately I've been really dying to try one of the new racing games. The last 2 racing games I played were burnout: revenge about 2 years ago and diddykong racing on n64 like 7 years ago lol.
@plaguuu if you liked burnout you'll love this..althought the crashes arent as insane here than BO, but this includes the worlds greatest and latest supercars and gives you a break from the seriousness from Gran turismo 5!
NFS hp is a very impressiv game but liek the video says the time races are creepy hard. And the test where u drive against the time where cops pursuing you thats crazy stuff
i have played the NFS series ever since the game Need For Speed high stakes and i have to say that the time trial races are always pretty easy. I bet they revamped the time trials to make your experience more challenging

Seriously, i think you need to play a couple of early NFS like Most Wanted or Shift. I think you missed some of the points of the game, especially the weakness of this NFS, such as: The career is weak, as there isnt much customisation on the events, like a Quick Race mod. It can get very stale after a while, but the race events towards the end are really great. Or very lack of setting on the online lobby like, you cant change class(from Hyper cars to Exotics) when you have entered a game.
@Cheesenium2 This is a reboot of the 1998 Hot Pursuit. It's made to be similar to that, which I mentioned right in the video, considered I played it back in 98. Also, Most Wanted and Shift are not "early" Need for Speed games... "Hot Pursuit" is.
@ZeitgeistReview Hot Pursuit isnt even remotely close to the first Hot Pursuit, as there are so many things missing or out of place. There are some Burnout gameplay throw into the mix like the ramming mechanism.
Im not saying that you didnt play the classic NFS, you have made it very clear that you played the original. It's just that some of the past NFS are worth to play too. Hot Pursuit 2010 is definitely in the right direction.

@ZeitgeistReview I think that this title is more styled towards Hot Pursuit 2, which wasn't as fully featured as Hot Pursuit 1 if you know what I mean. I hope that the next game will be even better though!
I liked Manual Transmission a lot at NFSMW , although it Could have been more difficult to control at Hot Pursuit but it would have been fun to play at manual.
And Burnout Itself Ripped off of Early NFS Games in MANY Ways.
Basically it's just the game coming full circle, People who are complaining about it NOT being like Most Wanted Probaby Never Played Hot Pursuit (Which was The Best damn NFS Game, Because It was fun WITHOUT all of the extra crap.)
The only thing that i HATE is the traffic and the A.I is sometimes stupidly hard, its good to have the challenge but sometimes it just seams a but ridicules.
I enjoy the game a lot, I picked it up on sale during Thanksgiving. I've put a lot of time in the career mode as a racer, I'm at a wanted level of 11 or 12. You're right about the time trials, I had problems with two of them that took me a while to get through and finish with gold. I've noticed after that my skills have improved, especially with drifting.
The only thing that worries me is if the "weapons" are a bit too much, especially in the hands of the racers. It just doesn't feel right. I hope it doesn't unbalance the game. I understand the police having them, but the racers too? Also, an EMP pulse? pff come on!
@Trusteft Have you played the game? The racers need those weapons just to stay alive. The cops have a huge advantage as it is, not because of the weapons, but because they simply have to crash into the racers, which deals massive damage. The racers need SOMETHING to keep them alive. From the matches I played online, I found it rather balanced and it really came down to player skill.
@ZeitgeistReview That's good to hear. I have played only a very short demo once, didn't get any more chances with it. I was worried that it (NFS) became a combination of Burnout Paradise and Blur/Mario Kart. Each is a great game, but I just wouldn't want as NFS. If I make any sense.

@jamesundeee I don't believe there are events in free roam. It's simply free roam. You just drive and there is nothing to do beyond simply exploring.

Finally they went back to the hot pursuit stuff! That's what made need for speed so unique back then...then they took it out and it was just a fast and furious throwback :|

Zeitgeist you're reviews are awesome because you give an honest opinion about about games. You blow ign and gamespot out the water so I really do hope you get paid for what you do. i think the only problem i have with this game (other than the time trials) is that there isnt any split screen multiplayer.
In the past, NFS games were great party games where friends could come over and play. Especially in the original Hot pursuit where 2 players can both be cops and take out an entire race.
Lovin' all the gameplay footage that was shown. I really can't decide between this or Blur(still haven't picked it up yet). As much as I enjoyed Burnout 3 and the original Hot Pursuit, I may just pick this one up instead.. Also, thanks for staying true to NOT giving a bland number to each title you rate. I cannot stand when media critics feel the need to slap a number label on a movie, piece of art, book, or videogame. Great review!
@sageyash I tell you what's good and what's bad. You can't figure out whether or not you like it from that? Seriously, a number is what helps you determine whether or not to buy it? Ok, I give this a 52 out of 3. Why? Because it's a meaningless number with no facts behind it.
I thought the dispatcher was annoying and the cop campaign was lame since you didn't actually get any backup cops, just lame roadblocks and stuff which didn't work half the time. I guess if you like racing games you'd like this, but I personally wasn't a fan

Hot Pursuit really really needed the customization of Underground. Also the "beat the clock" missions were so boring. I skipped nearly all of them.

Does anyone know how this compares with Grand Turismo 5? I'm a ps3 player. I'm normally an action/rpg/fps kinda guy but lately I've been really dying to try one of the new racing games. The last 2 racing games I played were burnout: revenge about 2 years ago and diddykong racing on n64 like 7 years ago lol.

@plaguuu if you liked burnout you'll love this..althought the crashes arent as insane here than BO, but this includes the worlds greatest and latest supercars and gives you a break from the seriousness from Gran turismo 5!

NFS hp is a very impressiv game but liek the video says the time races are creepy hard. And the test where u drive against the time where cops pursuing you thats crazy stuff

@Damptarmac really it does handle like the real ones in real life e.g the bentley handles like a tank and the gtr feels like it has a bit under steer

i have played the NFS series ever since the game Need For Speed high stakes and i have to say that the time trial races are always pretty easy. I bet they revamped the time trials to make your experience more challenging

This was my absolute favorite game on the gamecube!!! I just bought it for the wii tho and the graphics thus far have sucked compared to videos here and everywhere else. I haven't tried carrier mode yet, but I am worried

Seriously, i think you need to play a couple of early NFS like Most Wanted or Shift. I think you missed some of the points of the game, especially the weakness of this NFS, such as: The career is weak, as there isnt much customisation on the events, like a Quick Race mod. It can get very stale after a while, but the race events towards the end are really great. Or very lack of setting on the online lobby like, you cant change class(from Hyper cars to Exotics) when you have entered a game.

@Cheesenium2 This is a reboot of the 1998 Hot Pursuit. It's made to be similar to that, which I mentioned right in the video, considered I played it back in 98. Also, Most Wanted and Shift are not "early" Need for Speed games... "Hot Pursuit" is.

@ZeitgeistReview Hot Pursuit isnt even remotely close to the first Hot Pursuit, as there are so many things missing or out of place. There are some Burnout gameplay throw into the mix like the ramming mechanism.
Im not saying that you didnt play the classic NFS, you have made it very clear that you played the original. It's just that some of the past NFS are worth to play too. Hot Pursuit 2010 is definitely in the right direction.

@ZeitgeistReview right.. ;) It was the third one. And i love the older one too. All this tuning stuff ... bah i love that one. IUt reminds me alot on the first one.. maybe a little bit burnout in it.. but mostly like hot persiut 2. ^^

@ZeitgeistReview I think that this title is more styled towards Hot Pursuit 2, which wasn't as fully featured as Hot Pursuit 1 if you know what I mean. I hope that the next game will be even better though!

I liked Manual Transmission a lot at NFSMW , although it Could have been more difficult to control at Hot Pursuit but it would have been fun to play at manual.

One of the things that's disappointing me in this game is there are no cops in Free Roam. That was the funnest thing in Carbon.

Basically it's just the game coming full circle, People who are complaining about it NOT being like Most Wanted Probaby Never Played Hot Pursuit (Which was The Best damn NFS Game, Because It was fun WITHOUT all of the extra crap.)

The only thing that i HATE is the traffic and the A.I is sometimes stupidly hard, its good to have the challenge but sometimes it just seams a but ridicules.

I enjoy the game a lot, I picked it up on sale during Thanksgiving. I've put a lot of time in the career mode as a racer, I'm at a wanted level of 11 or 12. You're right about the time trials, I had problems with two of them that took me a while to get through and finish with gold. I've noticed after that my skills have improved, especially with drifting.

The only thing that worries me is if the "weapons" are a bit too much, especially in the hands of the racers. It just doesn't feel right. I hope it doesn't unbalance the game. I understand the police having them, but the racers too? Also, an EMP pulse? pff come on!

@Trusteft Have you played the game? The racers need those weapons just to stay alive. The cops have a huge advantage as it is, not because of the weapons, but because they simply have to crash into the racers, which deals massive damage. The racers need SOMETHING to keep them alive. From the matches I played online, I found it rather balanced and it really came down to player skill.

@ZeitgeistReview That's good to hear. I have played only a very short demo once, didn't get any more chances with it. I was worried that it (NFS) became a combination of Burnout Paradise and Blur/Mario Kart. Each is a great game, but I just wouldn't want as NFS. If I make any sense.
I was hoping for a game more about driving and racing than "shooting".

@jamesundeee I don't believe there are events in free roam. It's simply free roam. You just drive and there is nothing to do beyond simply exploring.

Finally they went back to the hot pursuit stuff! That's what made need for speed so unique back then...then they took it out and it was just a fast and furious throwback :|

Zeitgeist you're reviews are awesome because you give an honest opinion about about games. You blow ign and gamespot out the water so I really do hope you get paid for what you do. The only other reviewer that comes close to the caliber of you're reviews is Whity The Reviewer, everyone else is just Ok*. i think the only problem i have with this game (other than the time trials) is that there isnt any split screen multiplayer.
In the past, NFS games were great party games where friends could come over and play. Especially in the original Hot pursuit where 2 players can both be cops and take out an entire race.

Lovin' all the gameplay footage that was shown. I really can't decide between this or Blur(still haven't picked it up yet). As much as I enjoyed Burnout 3 and the original Hot Pursuit, I may just pick this one up instead.. Also, thanks for staying true to NOT giving a bland number to each title you rate. I cannot stand when media critics feel the need to slap a number label on a movie, piece of art, book, or videogame. Great review!

I thought the dispatcher was annoying and the cop campaign was lame since you didn't actually get any backup cops, just lame roadblocks and stuff which didn't work half the time. I guess if you like racing games you'd like this, but I personally wasn't a fan
