@MoreBoingPlox LOL, Maybe it is! They must have gotten it from a block museum cos nobody has made "cinder" block in nearly forever. I apologize for being a dope with too much specialized information about an industry. Me shut up now! (love this channel)
@brentr52 Touche brother. I couldn't find anything that suggested they do not make cinder blocks, I'll take your word for it. You seem to have industry knowledge.
You could use a sellig 1223 airfoil, bigger span and a smaller root chord, Search about SAE Aerodesign airplanes. They can fly 15kg brick with a 2,5 kg airplanes...
@chadkapper Too bad you guys are so far south, could use some crazy daring pilots up at the Cleveland Radio Control Club, when you guys mentioned Menard's, I thought of your area. D.
Laughed till I cried. Total techno-slapstick. You guys are great. The build was impressive. It DOES fly. The loop had to come. Best vid yet. Thx for your work.
This is a totally mad idea and I love it to bits. Would have loved to see it with about 20% more power and possibly thin air dams on the wing tips. Please keep up the good "work". RC flying is for fun whether a serious model or something outrageous. A+++.
Just one note: Once the plane is in the air, it doesn't matter if you fly upwind, downwind, crosswind... the airspeed is unaffected. Think of the plane moving within a 'block' of air... it can't tell if that block is moving in relation to the ground. Wind only matters during take-off and landing, where the ground is involved, or when the wind is gusting and changing speed or direction.
@FinallyAUniqueName wind going east at 15 kmph+plane going east at 15kmph= 0kmph airspeed wind going west at 15kmph+plane going east at 15kmph= 30 kmph airspeed .. when you turn with the wind your plane temporarily loses altitude due to loss of airspeed
Sorry, it doesn't work like that. If your plane has 15km/h airspeed and turns, it will still have 15km/h airspeed. Even if there's a 15km/h breeze, the plane's airspeed will NOT change. Its ground speed will however, from 30km/h with the wind to 0km/h against the wind (ie, it will appear to be hovering). The ONLY time the wind comes into play is when the ground is also involved: Ie, take-off and landing, or when the wind's speed or direction is changing.
@FinallyAUniqueName next time u fly in a breeze .. please notice that the plane will drop as it turns with the wind as the planes speed actually drops as you make the transition also please note that when you turn back into the wind the momentum / energy if u will will drain away but you will also gain altitude i don't think i can make it any simpler than that .. if u really want to learn more about it, basic math and a protractor is all you need.
@edabean007 This is the last reply I'll make, but you're still not understanding. The plane is flying within an air mass. During flight, the relative movement of this air mass over the ground makes NO DIFFERENCE. Think of the air as stationary and the ground moving beneath it... it has NO effect on the flight. The reason we land and take off into the wind, is that the relative speed of the air means a lower ground speed, allowing shorter take-offs and landings with lower, safer ground speed.
@FinallyAUniqueName please take note of the planes attitude flying into the wind and then turn to flying with the wind. specifically the transition stage where the plane needs to build momentum to travel with the wind. try it with a slow flyer and the effect will be more pronounced. do a snap turn with a light 3D plane at low throttle with no wind. it loses altitude . try it in a breeze, it loses even more altitude. in a perfect world you are right. we dont live in a perfect world
That was an excellent show guys! Everything seemed to be slightly different but better. This was a show that I could relate to because my son and I have projects too, but not that scale. What a fun show! I agree JB, just a little more lift will get you through the turn, though I noticed that the predecessor seemed to turn fairly well. Was the weight or power on this one less? If you fly the Bricksler again, pitching up w/ limited power = more drag and less lift perpendicular to the earth.
off topic a bit but, have you tried putting bigger ailerons on the Bixler? I love the plane and it makes a great camera platform it's just a little lazy doing rolls, any suggestions?
In most European countries, the AUW would require special permits/ licences even certified airfields to fly the Brixler legally :s Just warning the European viewers.
Btw. I'm somewhat disappointed, I expected you guys to call Anthony and asking him to call in the cavalry, high discharge batteries, dual or even triple motor setup!
The blooper reel at the very end was the best. Question now is, what happened to the prop and the motor when it did a header into the ground? Great vid!
