  • Ah, my commet was cut off.

... her years, one of the earliest version of a feminist I dare say. The 1995 version of her is much truer to the novel I believe. Jennifer Ehle has a youth you would expect at that age but her youth comes with a sharp mind and wit rather than a boisterousness. Elizabeth Bennett was polite and not talkative, she reserved her wit for Jane, her Father and later Darcy, she wasn't quite as open as Kiera potrays. I must sound awfully judgemental, I actually quite love Kie

  • For those people commenting on how the 2005 version is more aesthetically pleasing over the 1995- I agree completely. But it is not about the sets it is about how fateful and adaption it is from Austen's novel. Jane in the 2005 version is the only person cast better than the 1995. True there are many sides to Elizabeth but silliness was never one of then- Mr. Bennett made that very clear. So that part of the 2005 portrayal is very inaccurate. Yes Elizabeth was young but she was mature beyond he

  • And I don't think the 2005 Lizzie was stupid. I think the 2005 one focused more on them being a family of young girls. And with such a mother AND father she must have a pinch of silliness in her. Indeed, she was silly enough to be blinded by her pride and prejudice of Mr. Darcy's true good nature.

  • I love both versions, 1995 and 2005 ones. Different facets of the characters were played in the different versions. 1995: Lizzie's prejudice and restraint are focused. 2005: Lizzie's fiestiness and youth are focused. So in the 1995 one her maturity is played on more (maybe because of the older actress) and in the 2005 one her youthfulness is played on more.

  • Originally I thought the 2005 version was the better one; but after watching the 1995 version a few times, I decided tthat it is the best – the portrayl of character is richer and it keeps to the novel more.

  • In the 1995 version (the best) Netherfield is actually Edgecott House near Banbury, Oxfordshire. I pass it often but Bingley and Darcy are never Home. Shame eh!

  • I don't dislike the 2005 movie, but I terms of accuracy, I prefer the 1995 mini-series. Also, if we analyze the leads, Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth had sooo much chemistry, it's crazy. ;) Just love them together. In terms of cinematography (lighting, image, creative process), I preferred Joe Wright. For me, the 1995 version wanted to tell the story in being true to the book and the historical era, while the 2005 version told the story less precisely but in a more artistic way.

  • @Otisangel I mostly agree with what you say about the movie and the series, but regency started in 1811—when King George III was deemed unfit to rule and his son, the Prince of Wales, ruled as Prince Regent, though is father wasn't dead. The period ended in 1820 when George III died and the Prince was crown George IV. Some historians also expend the Regency era until Victoria, who became Queen in 1837. :) So the 1995 version's costume are accurate if we assume it's set in 1813.

  • I grew up with the 1995 version so I've always liked that one better than the 2005 version. Though the 1995 one portrays the correct body types the era is incorrect. Though the book was first published in 1813, Austen wrote it in the 1790s which is the Georgian era in England. The 2005 shows the accurate fashion interior design. Even though I like the fashion from the 1995 one better it is clearly from the Regency era which started in 1830. Both are excellent though!

  • Rosamund Pike was the only person in the 2005 version who portrayed her character properly! The rest are a shame and disgrace to the book and Jane Austen! I used to like the 2005 version until I read the book and watched the 1995 version afterwards!

Plump women and chubby women with rosy cheeks/with an English rose complexion and large bosoms were the definition of beauty in that era! Not women as thin as Keira Knightley! She is beautiful but, her weight was not attractive in those days!

  • @princessewhiterose not to mention Keira horrible hair, that is a disgrace on its own!

  • @princessewhiterose She was not suppose to be very attractive but plain. People can't help what their body shapes are now or back then.

  • The 1995 version portrays the book and the era accurately unlike the 2005 version! Mr. Bennet was a GENTLEMAN, which means that he was a man with an income derived from property, a legacy or some other source, and was thus independently wealthy and did not need to work! Therefore they would not have been as poor as in the 2005 version! Among the many other inaccuracies of the 2005 version!

  • the characters are so much more faithful in the '95, plus its the only one to portray Bingley as something other than an idiot, he is supposed to be obliging and a tad weak willed, but not stupid. Plus the 2005 depicts everything so dirtily, they may have been not well off but they could afford to keep their house clean!

  • Me gusta la versión 2005 en esta escena.

  • the 2005 version is the best.

  • 1995 much better, the 2005 may have better lighting and more natural, but the acting was not that great, mr Darcy is so not cool and I like ehle's character more.

  • It's wonderful watching this all movies at once! great idea! thank you...

  • Im just loving how you did this! lmao

  • Haha, for those who commented on the 2005 version to be dirty made me laugh. Seriously, you guys have yourselves a very clean idea of how it was back in those days. It was dirty (and wreaked if I can add that) and Joe Wright did a good thing in making it more realistically than the other versions have put it. Unlike the 1940 version (very dramatic and over the top) the mini series version (really bothered by who casted Jane) the 2005 version was more natural.

  • i totally agree! you can see that the 2005 bennet house looks more lived in and that they've been there for years. you can truly see it as their home and not just some stage or setting. the other bennet houses looked to "perfect" and tidy for a house of 7 people. 3 of which were very lively. it just wasn't realistic

  • Glad you agree. It was one of those things that really bothered me.

  • it bothered me too! i mean i can understand why people like the older version of P&P with Collin Firth since it's longer thus it's closer to the book than the movie but the movie had more life in it. i could actually make believe that it actually happened because the choreography ws so GREAT that is seemed like everyone had their own little things going on and they weren't just part of the background. plus the lighting and costume was the most realistic in my opinion.

  • i'd also like to comment on how perfect kiera knightly was as elizabeth. i really felt like she was a headstrong but playful young lady. a young woman with her own ideals. though the guy who played darcy in 2005 didn't wow me with his acting i think his portrayal of darcy as more shy than haughty (though still haughty) was spot on. i believe that's why he was so attracted to lizzy. the shy are normally attracted to the headstrong & outgoing.

  • haha that's true. It makes sense for opposites to attract even though there could be misunderstandings (Darcy & Elizabeth). You have really great points. Joe Wright did a great job in the portrayal. I loved it!

  • @PinkCatz101 Everyone in the 2005 version is much prettier.

  • I love Bingley's awkward speech at the end. It's just so cute!

  • What about the 1980 series? That will always be my favourite.

  • I like the BBC 1995 version of Elizabeth the best, and I loooove Colin Firth, but the 2005 version of Darcy is equal in looks. Maybe not equal, but I find them equally attractive. I still think Colin Firth is the better actor.

  • omg i agree - jennifer is also amazing

  • I think that the best Charles Bingley was in the 1995 version. He was amazing!

  • I love Mr. Bingley's smile in the 1940's version. I wouldn't compare the movies because they are all good for different reasons. the 1995 version is closer to the book though. the 2005 version shows Elizabeth's clothing to be a little less fine, and shows the difference in status better. but their all good.

  • If you read the book the 1995 version is straight on to the book. The 1940s and 2005 version is not to the book at all.

  • i think the 2005 version is the best of all! the filming is beautiful and the music is amazing! so please don't say crappy things but keep your crappy heads in your on favorite movies

  • It's amazig!!!!!

The first of all I prefer the meeting of Lizzie and Darcy (1995) and scene with a doctor (1940). And the 2005movie's scene where Bingley comes into Jane's room so unformal - I don't like this scene but it make me laugh - if he did such thing in real life he had to marry on Jane at once and her mother would be so happy.

    You've done a very good job,zippyC3.

  • I prefer the 1995 version. But I do love Greer Garson in the 1940 version. The 2005 version is too dirty for me. I know they were poor, but COME ON! They look like they played in mud pits all day.

  • even for a chambermaid!

  • I mean the costumes in the 2005 version are ridicuolus! Lizzy looks like Cinderella in her worst moments and what's more at that time a woman with her hair let down was almost equal with being nude, totally improper!

  • I know! They made them look so poor.
