I didn't see Sir Ivor, but Nijinsky was quite a horse and I'm certain Lester would agree. He and Piggot lost out in a photo-finish in the Arch de Triomph to Sassafra with Yves Saint Martin on board, what a thriller that was.

What a star, a real bloke. The way he did 12months jail by taking the rap for others, says it all about the man.
He was a master at his craft, and also of the cutting one-liners.
The one I like best, is when an American interviewer asked him the following after he'd just won the Washington International on Sir Ivor.
Interviewer: 'Lester, when did you realise you were going to win the race?'
Piggot: 'Oh, about two weeks ago!'
