OMG, Carl Betz was my hero. I am so glad someone out there liked him also..Best actor ever..I have a letter from his son and that letter is gold to me. I use to skip school just to watch his movies when they were on. I am 60 now and still desire to be an actor. Mr. Betz still lives in me. Judd "For the Defense" was the best TV series ever. I have it and a couple of his movies on VHS.
@TheDaddyRocker Ah, you're lucky on several counts--what prompted the letter from his son? And good on you for having the series on VHS! Wish they'd release this and several other shows from this era on DVD, but maybe the network suits were careless with the tapes. I first noticed the charismatic & impossibly handsome Carl Betz on "Donna Reed" when I was a kid but liked him best on "Judd" and his guest role on "Streets of San Francisco." Great theme; terrific actor indeed.
Got his name out of a movie mag I had. I sent his son a copy of the first episode of "Judd"..His son (Richard Betz) sent me the front copy of his dad as "Judd" on TV Guide. There are lots of items on ebay. I have bought a few of them to include a "Judd" script. I tried to stay in touch but don't think Richard was interested. Catgirl..stay in touch.
I know JUDD FOR THE DEFENSE only from reading that it was the program that ran against STAR TREK. Interesting to see the two shows shared the same theme composer, but probably not the same audience. I'd enjoy seeing JUDD, especially after becoming a big fan of Betz after catching him playing an English professor on a STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO episode. Thanks for posting this!
@GaryPeterson67 I vaguely remember the series "Judd For The Defense," partly because of its memorable theme. And you're right, Betz was terrific in that "Streets of San Francisco" episode. Have you ever seen any episodes of "The Donna Reed Show"? He played the husband/dad, a very handsome guy in a rather thankless role for a show that even star actress Reed came to dismiss as dated, standard sitcom fare.
I always *loved* this theme(!) - but I only recall the opening which was about 30 seconds long with the words "Judd...for the defense" said by the narrator part way through. Is this the closing theme? Thanks very much for posting this!
@rskissack : I have the first two episodes, with that very announcer you mention in the opening credits. Wish I could figure out a way to post the opening credits.
@ChicagoJoe57 This show became idiotic with a guy that was addicted to marijuanna nobody stayed home to watch it on friday night judd drove a chrysler imperial somebody made a fake model kit box for JUDD [ a model car kit that was never issued and had it in a website ]

Loved the show. Loved the music. But even this theme would have been considered "light-weight" compared to some of its contemporaries ( MANNIX,
THE NAME OF THE GAME, IT TAKES A THIEF) all had fabulous theme music.

It was about Judd, a defense Attorney in Houston, TX during the late 1960's, starring Carl Betz of "Donna Reed Show" fame

@rskissack: It is the main theme. I can not remember that ever ran at full length, neither in the opening credits still in the credits. - Greetings.
