@fallg51 hey check out these matte paints in the walking dead. It's like a montage of the effects. I was wondering if you could show use how to do the half zombie thing. Like how to make the 3d guts and stuff. /watch?v=GI6vq4zVK3I
Nicely done. You should try & loop the matte painting footage in the empty black space you have around around the both of you. Looking forward to more of these!
@TheMoreiraJoao I'm currently working on a PopFX episode where I will be teaching the basics of matte painting (no 3d perspective panning that requires Maya). If you hop over to the G Cinema Facebook fan page (link in the description) you can see some screen shots of what to expect. But as far as an earth exploding tutorial, Andrew Kramer from videocopilot (dot) net already made an epic one if you want to check them out :)
This is cool a great new show, I really like it and was really interesting how you make that montage, I mean that you feature how it works. Great job :D
@Hexpigge Thanks! Most of the montage was taken directly from Maxx's Reel available on his website (link in the description). Check it out sometime, AND check out Zoic Studios Reel's sometime ... you're mind WILL explode from the sure awesomeness that it is seeing^^
Matte painting requires serious skills before you even reach a computer, not something I think you can really be taught. I'll stick to making little 3D spaceships and just gape in awe at what these guys do.
I love the Walking Dead. I am going to shoot a video of a zombie airsoft game later this month at a 100 year old saw mill in the woods of rural Missouri. It is a fantastic location. I think I will take some photos of the area, do you have any recommendations on how to shoot photos for use in a map painting?
@AirsoftGeekDotCom Not that you can help it necessarily, but the better the camera the better the image (aka keep your pics as high resolution as possible so they can be re sized and twisted all over the place in post production). Also I personally like to take my shots from a centered level vantage point, and if my matte requires a different angle bending the image to that angle.
Do you work on the new FX series TerraNova ?

Now to just try and find a decent tutorial on 3d projection with maya.
