  • The Blackheart, definitely!

  • the epi is really warm and the blackheart is more brigth

    I prefer the blackheart

  • i like the blackheart better

  • Blackheart wins hands down IMHO.

To me, it sounds like there's some kind of plastic sheen between the mic and the epi--the contours are kind of dulled. When the Blackheart is on, it's like that sheen has been lifted away and you can hear what's really there.

  • man ur really into the mini heads and stacks huh?

  • guilty as charged :-) ... yes I am. Check out my new videos ... lots more, better quality. Thanks for tuning in!

  • The Blackheart sounds like it would cut through the mix way better than the Epi. The Epi sounds a little too scooped for my taste.

  • Anyone answer please. will Lady lucks sound any good for hard rock/metal?

  • LadyLuck for classic rock (think greenback sounding). Buy a blackheart cab for a rock sound (think G12T75)

  • What are some good 4X12 cabs (for metal) for around $250 then??

  • Bugera 4x12

  • cool, thanks a lot.

  • the blackheart one is closed back too, isn't it?

  • I think the VJ Cab sounds a little dampened and muffled.

  • I like the Epiphone cab far better, sounds darker & more vintage.

  • I just put a Celestion Blue in an Epi cab, sounds great. Yeah that Leslie G27 is looking good and I am getting one. I think they both sound poor, kid of ratty, but that could be the amp used. The Blackheart has a hole in the mids and the Epi fills that hole but is missing the highs and lows of the blackheart. It sounds like they were voiced for different things. The Epi more for a classic rock sound and the Blackheart for Metal. I didn't like either.

  • The Blackheart does not work well for anything harder than Led Zepplin. The BH Eminence is designed with tight bass, strong mid and high's. I had to load 1 cab with a Celestion G12H Anniv. to get low end.

  • neither. the leslie g27.

unfortunately, i can't afford the g27, so i'd have to choose epiphone ;)

  • After doing research, ive come to the conclusion that it is a now discontinued eminence Stonehenge in the blackheart.

ZZOUNDS website says it is 12 inches, Red Framed, British voiced, 1.75" Voice Coiled, with a 38oz magnet and 75 watts handling. Those specs EVEN the COLOR match up to the stonehenge PERFECTLY. It makes sense, eminence discontinued the speaker, had a ton left over, so hey, lets slap em into these cabs!

  • Epi. The BlackhHeart sounds "Blech!".

  • New BH Cabs don't use the LadyLuck speakers and don't sound as good to my ears anymore. The LL speaker definitely has less coloration, warmer and smoother breakup, and superior clean tone. As for this test I may be wrong but i think the Epi has open back and the BH closed? which would account for some difference as well. Regardless a little equalization change and the epi sounds more scooped like the BH. BTW the LL speaker is designed to directly let your guitars tone shine...not the speakers.

  • definite answer: Epi!

  • I like the blackheart because it's a little cleaner and you can always tone it down . it would be a little more tricky to brighten the warmer epi cab. atleast thats my theory.. heh I bet they would sound great together!

  • I like them both for different reasons. Epi is a bit more classic rock. Blackheart is a bit more Metal sounding. If I had to choose, I would take both.

  • Hey man, thanks for all these gear videos. Yoy're doing a great sirvice to all of us. I was just thinking of getting the epiphone cab and putiong a different speaker in it, the plywood construction is very good for the price.

BTW, I think the BlackHeart has the better tone.

    Thanks again,

    Juda

  • black heart for me. I've got a Veteran 30 and Green Beret to try out in my epi cab. I'll demo it soon.

  • blackheart more bite epip more mid? i think i like the blackheeart better more defintion

  • Definitely the Blackheart. Which head are you using?

  • epiphone much more deeper, the blackie is much more bare bones and coarse, i'm guessing the lady lucks are good for cleans

  • I hate to say it, but I like the Epi better. Has a very nice Brian Mayesque sound. Great video comparison. Thanks!

  • epi

  • i like the black heart

  • Epi cab for me too. Sounds deeper and richer. My 2 centavos

  • From the video, the epi cab sounded too nasal for me. The blackheart is tighter and crisper. I like the blackheart better.

  • Well its hard to say unless I have more info. Were you using single coil or humbuckers. Also, if this WAS the neck PU that you were using, I'd say that the Epi was the more appropriate response, because the blackheart is way too mid and high for a neck PU. But if it was the bridge PU, then the Blackheart was perfect, and the EPI was way too dark. So lmsjr, was it a neck or bridge PU in this experiment, and was it singleC or humB. Thanks in advance.

  • Damn, what good test. Cheers!

  • With some basic hand power tools. A sheet of birch ply and whatever speaker(s) combination you wanted you could make your own cabs in a weekend. Get a book on upholstery from your library for the tolex. The grill cloth is about the only hard to get item. If you're not going to gig with these cabs you're overspending for pressboard boxes.

  • i think they're made in the same factory

  • Um ... dunno, but you are probably right. They have the same designer. Not sure about the same factory, but it wouldn't suprise me. Thanks for viewing!

  • the cabs or the speakers?

  • speakers

  • perfect test, thanks, im actually looking for a cab for my tiny terror and these are the top 2 on my list.

Yeah, they have different sound character, im also leaning to the Epi one, because of its smoothness, but the backheart clarity is also very tempting, so ...

  • BTW, I'm leaning more on the Epi cab. :)

  • Would've been nice if the cleans were tested, too. But nonetheless a great review!

  • epi cab

  • I liked the Blackheart, the epiphone sounded too generic and plain.

  • id go for blackheart also. and yes that is a cool ass guitar :D

  • Great video!!! I say it's subjective and a matter of taste. The Blackheart was more articulate, but the Epi had a nice warm sound.

  • Thank you!! Agreed - very subjective. Every day I listen, I like the other ... which means, you should all buy both of em ;-)

Seriously though ... I will tell you this. When I bought both, they were priced at $99, free shipping. NOT ANY LONGER FOLKS - these are tough to come by now. Remember, as demand goes up, so does price :-) Take care all, and again, thanks for viewing!

  • Excellent comparison video. Thanks for all you do,man its great. For me,I prefer the Blackheart cab.Its definitely what i'm getting for my new Blackheart B5H little giant head.I dig these Blackhearts! They sound great, and look great doing their thing.

  • My pleasure. Thanks for viewing.

  • The Blackheart sounded like it had more clearly defined highs.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • You are welcome!

  • blackheart :D

  • i like the blackheart better, but i like the epi valve jr head better than the blackheart..maybe i'll get an epi head and a blackheart cab lol

  • Totally agree. Plus, you're listening to an Orange amp, which is going to sound better through what appears to be, a bit thicker birch. Like a Marshall cab(low end), vs, a Fender.

  • yeah, all this testing is confusing me. lmsjr, is it too much to ask to try this swapping of the epi/blackheart heads with the each other's cabs? You don't need to post it, just tell me which one is better. Nice job on all these videos.

  • Blackheart has more presence.

  • EVJ have better tone, but Blackheart have more volume.

  • blackheart piss in the face of the epiphone

  • blackheart hands down...
