i couldnt get this to work the water just kept sqirting out the top.. pretty damn frusrating actually so i cut the tube in half, added 2 medicine bottles (a small one upside down in a big one) and ran the tube through the bottom filled it up with water and cut a hole in the cap to let the gasses out. little more work but it works perfect
@bluered1322 Yeah, thats closer to how real airlocks are made. If you start using turbo or brewer's yeast, you may have to go back to a hose and stick it in a contaner of water.
@randomguy983 If the looped tube wont work, then just use a longer piece of hose and stick in a glass of water. Make sure the end of the hose stays at the bottom of the glass. You may have to weigh it down. Sorry for the slow reply.
@bubbajeasy Hey, if that really works then can you please PM me some more detailed instructions or make a video and send it to me, i will add you as a friend if you want?
Yes, but the lid and tube must make an airtight seal. Just to clarify, one end goes into the water, and the other end goes into the lid on your mash, but does not extend all the way down into the liquid. Got it?
No, I have not distilled anything with this setup yet.
If you look at the comments on my other vids, there are some recipes, but nothing I have personally tried yet. I usually refer people to the "alcohol fuel manual" for more info. Just google it. Good info there...
I'm sorry, I thought you were asking about the big still I'm building. I havent distilled anything with that yet. As far as mashes I've made using this air lock, yes, I have run some through a small still. I never have made very much, but the alcohol concentration was high enough to burn. Sorry for the confusion.
Nope, but I have thought about making a steam injection unit and using it to distill the mash as it gets sucked into the engine. So many ideas so little....money :)
very cool man. I just spent $3 on 3 airlocks which is fine, but $6 on shipping, this should save me a bundle.

How can I prevent the foam from blowing out of the hose? There is some serious pressure in this shit,I can't figure it out.

na the easiest one is just run that hose into the bottom of a mason jar. you can watch it bubble out too and when it stops your good to run
bubbajeasy 2 years ago
And that works fine too. Its just whatever floats your boat.

Instead of looping the tube like in my video, just stick the end in a container of water.
pat1huey 2 years ago
so just take a flexible tube and put onw end in what your making and the other in water?
If thats correct, thanks!

you mean don't put the tube in the mash but do put the tube in the water?
Sorry if i'm bothering you it's just i'm new and I don't want to mess up.

i used a nylon barb to mip adapter on one of the end it make it easier to secure on the bucket,

wouldnt the gasses just push the water out?
hobo617 2 years ago
Well, that can happen if you get enough gas trying to bubble through, but you can always use a larger diameter tube.
pat1huey 2 years ago
where do u get your information
reiderrabbit1234 2 years ago
Google the "alcohol fuel manual" very good source.
