  • god this is perfection

  • Incredible genius pop song..

  • Thumbs up against the two morons who disliked this song!

  • Holy butt nuggets. This song is old. I never knew it was from the 60's.

  • This is the ringback tone on my cell phone :)

  • I do believe that the Bangles' version was exceptional, but there is absolutely nothing better than the original. You just can't beat it!

  • @PatchGuitar1 IDK ...do you like "carry a cup in your hand" or "carry a gun in your hand" better. The eye of the beholder....or ear...

  • @spagisis Ummmm.... Cup? And yes. Ear. Lawl

  • lol. I never knew they originally did this!!! I always thought it was The Bangles because what do I know?! I was born in the 80s!!!

  • Grikone,I think you're missing the essence. It's not the same thing writting and compossingmusicthat "you like" versus performing someone elses creation and modernising it to please a totally different audience.both versions are great.let's not take nothing away from either.Gbu.

  • When I was junior high school student,I had heard thissong...This song is fantastic!

  • I like this

  • Bangles smangles

  • hahaha Garfunkel cleaning ears

  • will somebody think of the children?

  • gotta realize too that simon and garfunkel used 4 trac studios

i think they're much better than the bangles

  • @silverstinger1 Taken as a whole, I'd probably agree with you. But I've also gotta say that I prefer the Bangles version of this song better. S&G seem better in songs where they can really *sing* the song. This one sounded more like they were forcing the words out of their mouths musically rather than truly singing. It just sounded forced. By comparison, in the Sound of Silence clip, S&G are singing beautifully and the song is wonderful as a result.

  • Bangles, purely a commercial "girl band". If you are half-way competent, then it's hard to mess up a good song. Paul Simon is hailed as a "Great" Songwriter. What many fail to realize is that as a guitarist, there are few who can accompany themselves (their voices) as well. Paul can handle a guitar with competence and creativity right beside Woody Guthrie or Eric Clapton (consider OM-42PS). I would hesitate to mention as an equal the cover by the Bangle's with S&Gs original in the same breath.

  • Okay, I'm am going out on a limb here, but you asked for this. The greatest cover of this song ever performed that I myself witnessed, and do hereby give testimony to, was by The UNDERGROUND WALL from Detroit in the late 1960s'.

  • Hey! I thought the Bangles wrote this?

  • @probrojeffro

    lol, <3 u

  • @kiefercatg ;o)

  • @probrojeffro hell no paul simon wrote it

  • @silverstinger1 It was a joke.

  • I love both versions, but the Bangles definitely looked better when they performed theirs.

  • Seasons change with the scenory.Love it and ja we got snow here in Pa.10/29/2011.Got time to computer and curse the damn weather.

  • So it's Octobers 30, and it still never snows in the Bay Area.

  • So it's October 29, 2011, and it's snowing. The leaves, however, are not brown XD.

  • @bridget117 so its october 29.2011 in israel, its a bit hot and not rain or snow in sight....

  • @bridget117 and the last timethat it was snowing here is 13 years ago.....

  • @bridget117

    same happened in pa

  • hell, and what about the sodom cover?

  • The Bangles are crazy good, but this is just as good. Its a different time.

  • The Bangles put major royalty money in Paul Simon's pocket by making their cover of HIS SONG a hit, so I'm sure he gives about as much of a shit who's better as I do! But as for me and my house, this is my favorite version.

  • I love me some S&G...but the Bangles version is bangin'.

  • GREAT SONG S&G OWN IT AND ARE THE MASTERS OF IT!! Everyone else is just borrowing it. I keep hearing The Bangles in regards to covering this timeless masterpiece but has anyone heard Sodoms version? Its on here if you wanna hear it, just dont crucify me if you dont like it. I'm kinda guessing nobody will like it. I'm a true blue metalhead and I'm not crazy for it. But its so fun to say its the best version and come back an hour later & read the hateful comments LOL.

  • I feel like such an idiot!! I had no idea this was originally a S&G song! bahaha Well, you learn something new everyday, I guess..... if you're lucky.

  • i'm sorry, but I can't possibly see how the bangle's version is superior to this one. This one is sung with true heart, and has a whimsical and imaginative quality the other completely lacks. I don't think the song was meant to be played so heavily, and besides, Simon and Garfunkle, the writers of the song, seem much less well known than the Bangles.

  • @JudgeDee7 no they are far better known than the bangles its just this song that is less known than the bangles cover.

  • A decent cover of a Bangles original.

  • @octoworm Aaaahhh...your comment is heavy with sarcasm;)

  • @octoworm And thanks for that useful tidbit, Michelle Bachman!

  • This is one of those interesting tunes where the original and the cover are both good, AND both groups have put their own mark on the song. I much prefer that to a cover that is simply a repeat. In reply to shad, I would suggest that while the Bangles version doesn't have the wistfulness, it does have a sense of urgency at the sense that time is running out that gives it a slightly different but no less interesting meaning.

  • I hope all your S&G fans don't hate me for this, but I like Bangles cover of this better...

  • @vegasbaby92 I will cut you in the night.

  • @Skreamstreams - BRING IT!

  • One of my all time fav's. I grew up with these. Timeless wonderful what else can I say

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 & @Grikone - u guys suck strugglin musician's cocks 4 a livin! zip it!! play that sweet techno - yo DJ, spin dat shiiiiiit!!

  • Forgot this was S & G. Did any group who was so short lived have so many solid songs? Bangles did a great edgy cover, but S & G always brought a detailed, thoughtful slant that went beyond the music and what was easily interpreted from the lyrics.

  • @Aerohog1 S&G started out known as Tom & Jerry in 1957, later changed to Simon & Garfunkel and lasted until 1970. 13 years, that's longer than the Beatles and a lot of other groups.

  • Great song!!! Wish the sound quality was better.

  • OH YEAH !!!

    Thats the stuff :)

  • Great song... seriously... a GREAT song... but check out The Bangles' cover! Man, those girls really put the ooomph in this song!

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 that is the gayest and lamest version you could ever recommend!

  • @Grikone Clearly you know next to nothing about playing rock guitar (or probably any kind of guitar ) live. The Bangles' version is almost universally recognised as one of the best covers ever done of this song. Your comment is indicative of lack of awareness and a certain parochial puritanical regard for S&G. I have performed, live, many of their songs and respect them highly. Therefore, my compliment to the Bangles is supported both from personal experience and professional insight.

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 dam strait it is a very difficult band to cover

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 I agree it's a good cover musically, and what's more I think the Bangles are underrated as a rock band. That said, the cover loses something... I don't know, a certain sarcastic wistfulness at wasted time and potential. They're just too happy singing the song, I guess it's understandable as they were young and hot at the time and it was probably tough to get in touch with the feelings that I think inspired this song. Still it's a good and respectful cover.

  • @shad0h027 Wow---there is nothing more I can add to your comment, you summed up everything I was thinking.

  • @shad0h027 What are U talking about??

  • @genman57 the bangles did a cover of this song

  • @grungecollectorSCE - As amazing as the Bangles are...

  • @shad0h027. Yes, Bangles are underrated. They are far better than Korn or Nirvana. In this male dominated world, women are always underrated, & they are always stamped in negative, like women are expert in gossip etc. But look at everywhere, men are involved in all bad activities.

  • @shad0h027 They censored the lyrics for the Bangles. So it sounded lobotomized.

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 does it really matter?

  • @johnny2o2o it can't happen here

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 This is a great song : ) If the bangles covered it im sure they did a great job : ) But they will never be better than S&G!!!!

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 I found some other cover versions of this song on here today and I couldn't listen to any of them! The Bangles' version is the only other one worth listening to!

  • @MyFlipperLikesIce - I always thought the Bangles' cover was exceptional as well.

  • I'm under my neice's account, so please excuse the screen name.@ethrez...LMFAO!!!!

  • cool !

  • Drinkin my vodka and wine, im lookin around B-)

  • @ethrez Drinking my vodka and lime.

  • i'm singing this song for my chorus class, it's a beautiful song and amazing harmony, i just gotta learn it well, but i really like this song(:

  • Just can't help thinking of when John Lennon called Paul the pony faced singing dwarf har har har- he was silver tongue devil, but guess you heard... He also told Mick Jagger to " Knock off all that Fag Dancing" har har har hee hee ho hooo

  • awesome!

  • Aaaaahhh so under rated whoever calls simon and garfunkle undanceable ??!!

  • wowhat a fantastic song
