  • people STOP with the Darrell beat Carl Lewis(YOUTUBE NFL TOP 100 DARRELL GREEN) Lewis sets it STRAIGHT= Green NEVER beat him !!! again green's best 100m

on modern rubberized surface track 10.08 bob hayes 47 yrs ago on a dead loose dirt track in Tokyo 10.05(and IT WAS electronic)Seiko the watch corp. had electronic timing built right into the starters pistol,so the millisecond it went off timing started hayes also ran 9.91 with wind just over legal on that same dead dirt track=crazy !

  • deions best 10.24, green and brown's best 10.08, chris johnson's best 10.34 all on modern fast surface tracks-Bob Hayes 47 yrs ago in tokyo on a wet loose dirt( YES DIRT

track 10.05(wonder what he would have run if on modern rubberized surface)Hyes hands

down fastest man to EVER plat in the NFL. fastest 60 yd in NFL's fastest man comp-

Ron Brown 6.09- Hayes 48 yrs ago first man under 6 sec's he ran 5.9 at age 20.

and check out his anchor in the 4X100= SICK !

  • Here is the Superstars competion record where Herschel Walker beat Darrell Green twice in the 100 myard dash.

Hmmm it won't let me post the site ?

  • He ran a 4.2 -- 40@40yrs.old = Damn!

I could drank a 40oz.@40 and that's about it folks.

    Cheers from Cancun Mexico :-)

  • @davethedrummercancun lmfao when he was young he ran like a 4.14

  • He not lying about that race in Hawaii i saw it he porbably would have beat some of them if he ahd trained but IDK about DeAngelo Hall and Andre Johnson they smoked everybody else

  • darrell your the best!

  • I love you Darrell. You are a class act. And a TRUE example of a professional. Not Pro-athlete, professional. With that said, Deion was faster.

  • @drbayoms not faster then darrell

  • @drbayoms deion was a show boating loud mouth crap talking player who had talent... he never or rarely showed for practice... he was no leader... hes the one who started the classless dumb dances in the endzone... besides darrell was faster no matter what anyone sais... darrell was 100% more commited.

  • @bfrye1990 billy white-shoes johnson started the endzone dance in the mid to late 1970's early 80's

  • Darrell Green beat Herschel Walker in the 1988 NFL Fastest Man Competition in a semi-final heat for 60 yards, he also beat Ron Brown in the 1989 NFL Fastest Man Competion in the finals. He was the fastest cornerback in the history of the NFL and for 60 yards probably the 2nd fastest player ever after Bullet BoB Hayes.

  • DG28 will forever be the NFL's Fastest Man - period.

  • I recall watching that race between Herschel Walker and Darrel Green in the 100 yd dash, on the old superstars show back in the 80's, and Walker beating him w/ a winning time of 9.37 to Green's 9.4

  • @curtendog but green is faster

  • @curtendog

I've ran into a couple people that remembered it also. Green's best time I believe was 9.6 something. That superstars site is now down, with all it's records. All these guys listed below were blazers. Would of Loved to see a Young Dorsett against some of these guys. Without having to hold onto a ball running. Darrell Green was a gifted runner.

  • @AceInThePines @AceInThePines I agree with U 100%.I would love to see Dorsett in his 'hey day' go agaisnt the young guys of today

I will ALWAYS remember Darrell catching T.D. from behind in that season opener at RFK Stadium in '83 I believe (the one where the Cowboys were down by 20 at half only to come up with one of the greates comebacks EVER)

I still think Tony had no idea Darrell was that close to him. If he had realized, I think Darrell might not have caught him. Tony out ran EVERYBODY!!!

  • @SammieDeLuce didnt realize? its not like the man was jogging you dont jog i mean its obvious he caught him from behind running because he barely caught him...

  • @curtendog I recall green playing the toughest position in football for 20 years and kicking ass for those 20 years..where was hershel at the NFL fastest man contest all those years?? Darrell beat carl lewis in college running track..NUFF SAID!!!!

  • @collin355 Just Got Thru Watching The Top 100 Players In NFL History On The NFL Network. Darrel Green, Who Was # 75(Which I Thought Was Low), Was Intoducced By None Other Than Carl Lewis, Himself. While Lewis Was Respectful Of Green's Speed, He Wanted To Set The Record Straight And Stated Emphatically, That He Had Never Lost A Race To Green And For Green To Stop Telling People That He Beat Him. I Suggest You Watch Episode, 80-71. Thanx.

  • @curtendog big deal... id rather meat 28 any day.

  • @bfrye1990 I Believe You Mean M-E-E-T. Thanks.

  • @kirkindog yes sorry for the miss punctuality

  • @curtendog

Great memory my friend. It was 9.37 H.W. 9.5 D.G.

  • Green beat Gault in 100 yd dash while they were still playing

  • lol, arrogant son of a bitch.

    He is right though...

  • Those of us the grew up watching these guys know that Darrel was the fastest on the field. Herschel was a college track star in the 60m! And if people really think speed is gone, watch Eddie Royal run, the man has nasty speed.

  • Darrell had talent and appreciated the gifts he was given. I have seen so many people who had incredible talent....and threw it away.

Darrell knew he was special and worked hard to nurture his talent. He is a Hall of Fame player and a Hall of Fame human being. I saw some the 'Skins vs. the 49ers in the day. Jerry vs. Darrell. Just seeing those two go at it was worth the price of the ticket!!!

  • green out ran carl lewis in the 100 meters plus ron brown was way ahead of green on monday night green caught him but not befor it was a touchdown if he had another five yards brown would not have scored green was the fastest period then and now he also ran down dickerson kaufman rice so on and son on

  • the rocket ismail was faster than he was

  • lol...the rocket was no were near as fast as Darrell Green. D. Green ran down a prime Tony Dorsett from almost a 60 yard head start. That's too fast.

  • 60 yard head start? I'm assuming that's a typo. Green was fast but there are so many fast players that it's very tough to say who the fastest was. Green was second fastest ever on the NFL countdown

  • i think he means 6 yards--still an insanely impressive feat.

  • There are no longer World Class sprinters in the NFL. James Trapp, James Jett, and Michael Bates were the last of that breed. Can you imagine DeAngelo Hall vs Usain Bolt?

  • Michael Bennett? Antonio Cromartie(a little slower), Randy Moss, Tedd Ginn, Terrence Newman, Chris Johson. There are some very fast players that could have been amazing sprinters if they trained for that.

  • Darrell had god given ability when it came to speed. I would of love to see D. Sanders against him in 100 meters. It's always easier to chase down someone with a ball in there hand. Regardless he was undefeated against the guys that entered the competition. Von Brown now that guy was fast.

  • What a class act

  • one of the prettiest-plays ever, was when he ran eric dickerson down from behind, back in the 80's!!!

  • Man I remember that, my eyes are still stunned! I have never seen anything like that since and I doubt that I ever will. I'm glad I lived to see it though.

  • yeah, chief, that was something to see :]

  • I remember seeing carlos roger run down LT. Sorta... LT scored, but carlos was like a missile coming at him- closing the distance at an insane speed, just missed him. I didn't know he could move that fast.

Wish I was a fan back when green was playing.

  • I'm not sure what year it was, but I do remember Darrell running against Herschel Walker in the late 80's, or early 90's, and Herschel winning by a big margin. twice as a matter of fact. Also at the end of the race Darrell saying that Herschel just had a different gear than everyone else. This was his comment after being asked what happen. The competition was called The Superstars competition.

  • I don't remember this. I remember Herschel came the closest to beating him one time...

  • It wasn't the fastest man competition. It was a superstars competition, filled with other athletes. They actually raced twice. That's when Green made that comment. Funny last year on the basketball court someone else also mention that race, with Walker winning.

  • In the nfl fastest man competition, Darrell Green dusted Herschel walker. It wasn't even close. Darrell Green in those nfl fastest man competition, beat Ron Brown and Brown had the record in that event, Green beat Willie Gault, Rod Woodson alot of fast guys he beat them all in those fastest man races. The man was truly blessed with speed.

  • I don't ever remember Herschel Walker & Darrel meeting in the Fastest Man Competition. I do remember Darrel unable to catch Ron Brown during a Kickoff. I believe it is on youtube. I saw a superstars competition in the late 80's, and Darrel lost twice to Herschel. Regardless Darrell is fast, and at his age Im not sure if I ever saw someone faster at 40. Yes a special gift for sure.

  • Yes brother you are definitely right about Darrell Green not being able to catch Ron Brown. It was a monday night game and Green had an agle on him, but you could tell that they had about the same type of speed, but Herschel he was a track man,and his speed was better for 100 yard race, but I can't see him beating Green. I'm not saying you're lying. I'm just can't see it. When I saw the superstar events Walker beat Willie Gault, and Gault beat him, but I never saw Darrell Green at those games.

  • Green was a special athlete when it came to speed. I will say this though, it is different to be running with a ball in your hand and tucking it tightly, verse an all out sprint chase down. I've always thought green was one of the fastest players I've ever seen. He did lose one year to Walker. I tried to find some info on it, but I was only able to find another person who saw the race and made the same claim in a blog.

  • I do remember Walker loosing at a 60 yard dash that included Green. Regardless Darrell could of been an Olympian he choose to just be a track star. Who knows maybe a Gold medal. This league had some serious sprinters. Jett, Trap, Wright, Walker, Green, Brown, Newman, Gault, Nehemiah,, and Hayes. We are blessed to see them all.

  • Darrell Green I believe won the nfl fastest man events 3 times. Each one that he was in. In the 3 final races each year to win that event he beat a WR named phlip Epps from the Green Bay Packers, Google that name, my spelling is a little off, but it should come up, and that was a photo finish. He beat Ron Brown, and he dusted Rod Woodson who was young and very fast at the time before his knee injury, and Rod had beat Willie Gault to race Green. Walker just didn't have that extra gear Green had.

  • When he was a rookie he returned punts, the first 5 times he touched the ball he scored, unfortunately, 2 of those got called back. Throughout his career, whenever we really needed a score, he'd return kicks for us. Whenever he touched the ball it was electric. You could see the other team react like "Oh sh*%!". He made the rest of the field look like slow motion. Deion & Vick were the only other players like that.

I believe he's the only one to win the NFL's fastest man every time he entered.

  • AceInthePines -I watched this play when it happened and Green did close the gap and tackle him but was a little late. Brown had not slowed down either because he had not reached the endzone yet. Green hit him about the two and when Brown fell the ball crossed the goal line.

  • I saw it also. I would say he did slow down at the last 8 yards or so. We have to remember someone holding a football, and running with it tightly tucked, verses someone in an all out sprint will be faster. Green was extremely fast, and could of maybe represented in the Olympics. No doubt he was a rare gifted sprinter.

  • The only NFL fastest man comp. I watched , Green beat Brown. Brown was about 1 step ahead halfway through and then Green kicked it into overdrive and beat Brown by almost 2 strides. He blew him away in that race.

  • If you go the the NFL superstars competition results year, by year you will find that Greene has lost. Also you will see the times posted. Herschel has some of the fastest times, and also Brown. Faster than Green. I also watched Greene lose to Herschel for the second time, and Green saying he(meaning Herschel) just has a different gear than the rest of us. Go to the site, and check it out brother. Regardless they are all extremely fast. Just glad to see them all in my lifetime.

  • Where is the website and I will check it out. Another topic, I read on wikipedia that

Darrell Green was won all four NFL fastest man competitions he was in. I'm not sure if that is confirmed. I still believe Green could beat anybody in the 40-60 yard category but taller runners possibly could catch him in a 100 meter race.

  • i think willie gault set the world record for his age group.

  • Okay my friend, now you have me on a mission to find the truth. I agree Green never lost in the NFL's fastest man competition. Yes Epps was fast also. Do you remember 1 year in the superstars competition that involved Cliff Branch, James Lofton, and Tony Dorsett. Dorsett surprised everyone and won the race from coming behind. I believe it was 1980. Green ran T.D. down on that Monday night. I found some other comments on Walker winning against Green in a competition. Not the NFL's F.M.C.

  • Hershel beat Green in a 100 yard dash in the mid 80's. Check the times Herschel posted in those races. They were ridiculous times. You have to run 100 meters, or 100 yards to have a true test of speed. The fastest man competition were in those days shorter distances, plus Herschel got slower, and bigger by the late 80's. Herschel Ruled those events in his days. In the those days no one put up times as Herschel did. I tried to forward some info, but not sure if I did it right.

  • while not technically the fastest man in the world since he didn't train for track & field after college, given his god-given natural speed, he could have easily made the men's 4x100 meter team and probably medaled in the 100 meters had he taken time off football to train specifically for track & field, no question...who the hell still clocks a legitimate 4.2 40 at the age of 40!!!

  • He beat Carl Lewis in pads

  • BEST CORNER EVER

  • THE TRUTH

  • Worlds fastest man? Errrr, whats the interview smoking? I don't recall Green winning the Olympic 100m. Having said that Green is a complete legend and without question one of the 2 or 3 fastest guys of all time in the NFL. He is probably one of the fastest men of his age in the world-I'll give him that.

  • he was the fastest 10 years ago or so so stfu

  • No-he wasn't the fastest man in world is the winner of the olympic 100m-Green didnt hold that title so your comment is incorrect.

  • From what I understand he had the fastest time in the world in the 100 meters in the year he was drafted (1983) and he was the anchor of a college 4x4 team that beat a team with Carl Lewis on it. I have heard that he was rated third fastest in the world coming out of college, but I don't know what this rating system is/was.

  • Don't get me wrong-Green was absolutely smoking quick in college and for most of his career..he was defo one of the fastest men in the world in the early/mid 80s. My comment was just to point out he was never the quickest man in the world, but he would have been a yard or two behind them...

  • you could say the same for willie gault, who was probably faster than green. gault was class of '83 too.

  • Taht explains why both went at each other out on the feild all the time when they played against each other!

  • Down to earth, humble, and yeah he wasn't a showboat like Deion, he backed it up out on the gridiron, and like I said to some friends at work, if he wanted to he could still play! Biggest thing about his speed is the ability he had on runnin' other players down from behind!

  • My favorite Redskin of all time. Darrell, I'll see you in Canton!

  • Class act..I am truly grateful to have met him and have his autograph..kids, he is the epitome of what a role model should be.Hail to the Redskins.
