    I fail to see it "cutting", as I agree with all of the above, with the exception of 600k americans dead.. and that you can lay at the feet of the slave states for seceding the way they did. There is nothing saying you can or cannot leave the Union in the Constitution, which means that decision belonged to Congress before they jumped one way or the other. They forced the issue by declaring independence and gave Lincoln the ability to set precedent... and now no one can go.

    Not Congress's choice, it's the individual States' choice whether to leave the Union or not. A foreign military force was occupying a Confederate fort. They should have surrendered the fort.

    You're wrong. First off, the Declaration of Independence isn't a legally binding documented ratified by the US government, it was a document that was signed by the continental congress before the USA existed.

    Second, even if it was ratified by the US gvt, there is nothing in it saying a State has the right to secede from the Union. As i said before, there is nothing in the Constitution saying a state CAN or CANNOT secede.. because of that, its up to CONGRESS, not the states.

    Forgetting for the moment that the US government assumed responsibilities for the revolutionary government, it doesn't change the PRINCIPLE expressed in the DoI.

    Either the Confederate States had the right to secede from the Union, or the colonies did NOT have the right to secede from Great Britain.

    So, when the Tommys march on Washington next week, you instruct your representative to surrender to them, because we were wrong to secede from Britain.

  • @Hiraghm No, the US Gvt did not assume responsibility, the continental congress (CC) was a transitionary gvt until the first true US Gvt was duly elected by individual states. They didn't just say "We won the war, we're the US guv now".

    2nd, the CC tried very hard to reconcile with Great Britain before finally declaring independence, no such thing happened with the southern states. there is also no parallel between the southern states seceding and the CC declaring independence from britain.

Thanks to the 3/5th compromise, southern states had MORE than their fair share of government representation, but they still didn't get their way and decided to leave. Show me one point made in the DOI for independence that mirrors the southern states "problems". There are none. So NO, the DOI does not enter into this argument at all.

Congress to try to reconcile until King James declared them all traitors, King James forced their DOI and forced the war. The US didn't force secession or the war. Don't forget that New England was vehement about secession from the US over the decision to declare war on England a 2nd time.

    Again, the States had rights to secede, whether they did so properly is opinion, but they then declared war and lost.

    On the contrary; Gitmo is the result of a treaty between the U.S. and Cuba, and we *lease* the base. Cuba disputes the legality of the lease, but inter armes silent leges.

  • The man at 4:11 is not misinformed. CBS did do a poll that showed 72% of Americans view a public option preferably. That woman was correct that the health care bill gives no public funding to abortion. The woman with the scarf was correct that education and the military are currently socialized. The initial public option was just that, an option. I counted a total of four false statements among all those you showed. Fox News does spread lies... I'm not seeing what you "exposed" here.

    Government control is the definition of socialism. Although the HC bill does not have a public option, it has controls in place that will make a public option necessary. The goal of the left is to have single payer government controlled health care. The hc bill is just the first step towards the goal

    Sorry collective government control, but yeah, get rid of the post office, Medicare and VA  Hospitals. The PO lost 4 Billion last year, Medicare is what is wrong with medicine, and Vets that get hurt on the job should be covered by workmans comp, just like every other employee that gets hurt on the job, they should be able to choose the hospital.

  • @mjswans I heard her interviewed. She's very conservative. She wrote an anti-Obama song called "There's a communist living in the white house". I recognized her voice on the video from that song. I think it's a bit harsh and unhelpful. Republicans RIGHTLY criticized the left for demonizing Bush as Hitler, etc. Why resort to the same methods we knew are wrong when the left used them?

    BELIEVING "sin" is your right. Enacting laws is another matter.

    If Catholics were majority & made a law "no meat on Fridays" (not as big a deal as marriage, just example) in my opinion, if you or I want a steak this friday, no law based on a religion should outlaw that.

    Odd how they dont push for divorcees to not get remarried...make Rush go back to wife 1 or 2!
