  • wow i cannot wait until i get a cd from my grandma then thats when i will install it W0000T!! i am so excited

  • I hope you dont have to listen to that music, its worse than a keygen :(

  • Linux is awesome for what it is, don't get me wrong. I just don't think I'm "ready" for it, I guess.

  • why do i get errors with a big fat x during or after a installation in ubnuto

  • How much space does this OS take up on your computer?

  • @CaptGage To use the Live CD (To use Ubuntu without installing it) you must have a PC with at least 256 MB of RAM. To install Ubuntu you should have at least 2GB of disk space. If you decided to install Compiz Fusion (The 3D effects) That will use up slightly more disk space.

  • That's appreciated, but after using the live CD for a couple weeks, I decided to stick with Windows indefinitely.

  • @CaptGage Ubuntu is a Debian standard system so it does take time to learn. A lot of people assume that it going to run just like Windows even know Windows is a different OS. Ubuntu is more advance then Windows & that is fact. Unlike Windows you don't need to install Drivers but you do need to know which manufactures of support Debian/Redhat standard systems. Eg, your safe with HP. Ubuntu 100% safer to use compared to Win because you can't get a virus on Ubuntu because of the way it built

  • When I tried to install Ubuntu my comp crashed, so I had to get another one. I imagine it does take time to leaqrn as with anything. I just never had the time.

  • Oh that polka tune sounds so familiar. The Cranky Geeks theme.

  • linux is an awesome operating system......but for the love of god somebody should make it more accessible.........installing something on it s such a pain.......

  • thats what makes a virus impossibe to access it

  • Depends on the Linux distro and on how you go about installing things. With Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, etc. installation and removal of software via the repositories has never been easier. It's certainly easier than Windows.

Of course you can always have fun with source tarballs and go './configure' 'make' 'sudo make install' :)

Anyone for Slackware, Gentoo or Arch Linux?

  • What apps are compatable for it? does it have lot of hardware such as webcams, scanners drivers?

  • All the basic necessities that u d need on a computer run well with linux.....like your browser, music application photo viewer etc.....linux mainly runs open source applications.Sometimes(very rarely mind you) you would have an incompatibility issue like for ex....I m not able to still find the ethernet driver for my computer on ubuntu.

  • @acidangelster if you phone your ISP they will install they driver while your on the phone to them. They do it viva the internet.

  • if ur looking, to switch and ur worried about the programs and such, go over to the ubuntu forums and read the supported apps list

  • @Z0mbieKangar00 Most Windows application and games will run on Ubuntu if you use Elimination software like Crossover. Microsoft and Novell have got a partnership so if your willing to pay you can have outstanding Linux/Windows compatibility with Novell's SUSE Enterprise rather then Ubuntu but there are reasons why Ubuntu is so popular, for example Ubuntu is very easy to use once you know how to use a Debian standard system.

  • i like ubuntu for the speed and visual customization. i really really really really wish that programmers would start making all software compatible with linux. then i would most definitely get rid of windows for good.

  • E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

    E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

everytime i try to do it this pops up can someone plz help mee

  • i have this same problem idk why it does this have u figures out how to fix it yet

  • no dude i have no idea how to

  • 'dpkg --configure -a' ... did you try doing that from the terminal?

  • do u have move tutorials more advanced like terminal command installs. you are awesome teching. thanks. -Carson

  • sudo apt-get install ( name of package ) - to install stuff.

sudo apt-get remove ( name of package ) - to remove stuff

There you go a quick tutorial on adding and removing packages with Debian based Linux distros via the terminal.

    HTH :)

  • You're a cool dude, thanks!

  • Wow your Internet connection is awesome!.... Will installing updated take a lot of space of my hard drive or replace the old once???

  • nah

  • how fast is your internet connection?

  • 1.1 mbps

  • how do u install programs on linux without an internet connection (cant find out how to connect to my wireless internet =( i have ip and everyhting, just internet/ping doesnt work.

  • Linux updates everything? I was thinking of swapping from Windows, and now I'm confirmed.

  • I will when I get a router that Linux can use!

    Fricking Speedtouch ADSL USB modems.

  • Linux can use any router that plugs in to the LAN ports.

Speedtouch ADSL modems where bad enough with Windows.

You really should be using a router with Windows, as it works as a HARDWARE FIREWALL for your PC. Those Speedtouch modems offer NO protection at all from malicious incoming packets, such as Conficker.

  • PROTIP: It's been ten months, I have a router. kthxbai,

  • @mukatuna Yes it can.

  • @mukatuna You can't get viruses on Linux which is why your money is so safe in the bank. You Tube, Google pretty much all safe websites all run on LInux or BSD. The reason why your money is so safe is because of the way LInux and BSD is written.

  • this is all when you have installed ubuntu to hard drive am i right

  • if i don't install the updates what will happen. that's what i did and some things did not work was that the reason for it

  • Robin, your voice is fucking awesome.

  • how do you install programs without an internet connection?

  • Put simply, you don't.

  • Question-How can u download Linux Software on XP? I no how to, but it doesn't work for me.

  • Linux software does not work on Windows.

  • yes does fire fox stared on linux and work's and VLC works on window and open office

  • What software that works on windows will not work with linux/'ubunto? im building a business computer.

  • Ubuntu looks almost like mac os 10. hmm unix

  • there are different GUIs for UBUNTU. The one in the video is the GNOME interface. If you try out KUBUNTU, it has a KDE Interface and looks similar to Windows XP.

  • I noticed thar in ubuntu everything is orange.

    Can you change color sceam?

  • yes, this is just a theme. It can be changed to other colours like blue, green etc. You need to access the background settings.
