i know this cat from my 10 years old, now im 22 . People are jerks and dont watch documentaries as a children or adult.more fun have in sitcoms and another stupidities. the reason why now more people are intrested is, its a new and cool own such expensive wild animal. its less dangerous then to have tiger.

I saw one on my first night in Serengeti. I was setting the table for lunch at the campsite and our cook pointed her at me. She was silently passing by the edge of the camp, like 10 feet away from me, hiding in the tall grass. She noticed us and froze, staring at us with her amazing eyes. Then, after a moment, she left. I was rendered speechless.

Ocelots have several characteristics that are EXTREMELY different then a Serval's. Servals come in several different colors, whilst the Ocelot is usually only one.

Servals are beautiful animals. But I hope people realize they are not good pets! They are wild animals and as such they can destroy a home.

it is very common in texas for people to get exotic animals and then not provide the care that they diserve. after hurricane ike hit Houston people ditched so many animals . one man let his exotics go. when one of the lions was caught it was locked in a church with people. people get them as show pieces . its sad

I first saw a serval in Kruger National Park when I was on a trip there in early '97. I love all the predatory cats but I'd never heard of a serval before, so the first time I ever saw one was in the wild and I fell in love with them. They're beautiful.

You should check out the caracal too - they look like a lynx, and catch low flying birds out of mid air. Quite awesome.

Actually they're not watered-down Savannahs. They *are* Savannahs. The guy who sells 'asheras' buys his cats from Savannah breeders then resells them as 'asheras' for a huge premium.

I assumed as much - When I saw the video on the 'asheras', I was like "umm... how is that NOT the same as a Savannah?!?". And $20k+?!? Who would pay that when you can buy an F1 Savannah for 1/4 of that price? Not to mention that IMO, the 'asheras' I've seen pictures don't appear as 'serval-like' as most F1 SV's I've seen. Craziness...
