So good! I Love the articulation in the opening section, and really throughout. Just enough staccato to accentuate the precision without losing the character of the the piece. Beautifully done! I Love "Messiah" in general, have performed it several times, and listened to countless recordings. I think this is my favorite :)
I absolutely love the Oveture! I used to love playing it in orchestra in high school. It felt good being able to play it with people who'd been playing it for decades.
This is honestly one of the best versions of this overture that I have ever heard. Amazing! Really makes me meditate on the holiness of God and what He did for mankind.
This is so amazing! The quality of this performance invoked emotions in me unlike any I have experienced before. The conductor is so perfectly aligned and connected with the performers it is unbelievable! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
This piece embodies what I love about Handel. He needs only so little to do so much. He uses very simple rhythmic figures, no quintuplets or anything like that; all very simple harmonies, no crazily dissonant nonharmonic tones. In fact, the only liberty he takes as far as I can tell is that he shifts the emphasis from the first beat to the third early on.
lovely, lovely..so well executed in wonderful Baroque style. I have listened to this a few times and think this is one of the best renditions of this overture I have heard. Who are these people? Very well done.
normally, i prefer it faster, however....listening all the way through (LURVE the messiah lol, sang it many times from hs through now (much much much older psml) and have learned to appreciate the very deliberate pace. You really have a chance to hear each note, each word :) xoxo CHEERS!
@Dinoiro im only 20 myself and i thought i was young to appreciate the beauty of this type of music it is a dying trend but as long as there r ppl like us that feel the musics intensity and journey it will live forever in our hearts. i hope you continue you musical journey. best of luck!!!
at 14 you have only the best years ahead of you! Continue on in your quest for greatness in music! We will be wating to hear your accomplisments. There is no greater builder of the soul than nusic!
@Dinoiro I feel the same way. I should have been playing things like this in the 7th grade. Theres always that want to grow in experience but I had to wait a little longer. Next year I'm going to a high school with people like you and me who care about playing nice like this.
i think the strings are beautiful the way they are. they have the nature grace of trees; coloring them is like covering up natural beauty with ugly artificial man-made plastic. besides, they won't look so classy anymore
This piece is AMAZING! This is one of my favorite pieces to play. I played the double bass for 12 years and the bass part is stupid hard, especially at the high school level. I played the cello part though since we didn't have enough cellos. Difficult piece but definitely a classic!
@drumma4lyfe06 Thanks for the insight! I don't play anything, only sing, and have sung Messiah more times than I can remember, but I always enjoy listening to this even though I always only hear it from behind! LOL - how considerate of Handel to make the easiest chorus the first one - "For unto us a child is born" is definitely the easiest one for the choir.
can someone help me i have to do a report on this piece and iam having a hard time..i have to describe what iam hearing in detail and the intruments being played,HELLLPPP PLEASEEEEEEE!!!
The piece being played is an 'intro' ... to a much larger body of music called an oratorio. The music was written by Handel.
An oratorio is a musical presentation of a particular subject matter (in this cae ... the birth of Christ).
The instruments being played in this Overture (intro) ... are mostly string instruments (violins, violas, cellos, bass-viols) along with a harpsichord (early piano).
This is a very early form of classical music, called Baroque, which predates Beethoven.
I love it!!!! my class is going to play it on December... but I hate that the viola is understimated.... since I play the viola... but I still love Handel... :D
Oh, I guess I just noticed something here. as far as I can see the players on 1st and 2nd violin section are all females, and those on viola and cello sections are all/or mostly males!!! I find it interesting ... but ladies are doing such GRRREAT job :-)
i did notice that the violins are mostly women and the men are viola players and cellists are men, this is coolm i am a female violinist so it is nice to see the orchestra evened out.
They also did a job well done on this overture, i remember playing it in middle school a few years ago, but it never sounded like this.
that is good. yesterday was one of the best days of my life. my conductor gave me a compliment on my playing, the first in 2 years, it made my day. i wanted to cry because i was so happy
wow.good for you.that means you are a great player.not any conductor compliments a player! :-) best of luck for you on your violin, piano, guitar and poetry.
