Lost boys would be in my top 10 but not 4. Near dark is a good choice. let the right one in. not so much. and where are the vampire movies of old? rethink this and do it again after you have seen a movie older that 1987. good start though.
I know that this was made more than a year ago but I liked Let Me In better than Let the Right One In. I read the book, watched LTROI and then watched LMI and thought it was better. Both of them have different points where they stand out but honestly I liked Owen better than Oskar. On my list LMI would be one and LTROI a really close second. :)
The book is by far better than both the movies but when I first watched the original movie I had a huge problem with they way they wrote Oskar. He seemed numb to the bullying and that he was closed off from the world because he wanted to be not because it just happened to be that way.
In the book he has Tommy as a friend and he really wants friends but as he grew up he saw that people started turning away from him. The second one I saw that in Owen.
Does any1 know a vampire movie where a priest was hunting them down? The main actor is a priest in a movie and i think he's asian. I'm not sure but would appreciate all the help ...
mom doesn't allow me to watch movies like this. so all the movies i've watched of vampires are Van helsing and twilight. (though i like the movie i do'nt see them as real vampires because they lack the needs to be one. and do'nt hate me!) she's scared that my little brother will get scared.
@sonadowfangirl30869 sucks for you my mom made me watch horror movies like the exorcist, Nightmare, Hellraiser all the great ones form a young age probably fuck me up alot but oh the good times i have had :)
I think vampires CAN be sensual and beautiful so long as they stay true to their nature and kill others. Yea, I hate twilight, it's a piece of garbage and makes me scared to say I like vampires cause people automatically think shining glittery gay vegetarians, but for example Lestat, Louis, Armand, etc from Queen of the Damned and Interview with the Vampire are strong, frightening, and coldblooded killers while remaining gorgeous. They are intellectual too, unlike older vampires which were seen
not a bad list, i would have personally put vampire hunter D at #1 but thats just me im impressed that u even put it on ur list so im giveing this a thumbs up
@Canaboll Ahhh no, couldn't get into it. The acting was beyond horrible. And don't get me started about the who skinny incredible hulk thing....also not on the list From Dusk Till Dawn.
Bella Lagosi's Dracula, and the one from '78 (I think) has to be top ten. 30 Days, and Interview With a Vampire- top 5. Respect for your opinion though; good call on Vampire Hunter D (both of em) and Lost Boys.
@alexaadap true vampires are nothing but predators... they are not seductive or any of that all we are to them is a food source and interview with a vampire is not what true vampires should be
@alexaadap ian average of 89% in english, 93 in math, 86 in science, 91 in geography, 88 in french. With those kinds of marks do you still think im simple minded
@MaryTheVampire1 Agreed on the first point. How is Interview With The Vampire not on the list. I liked queen of the damned but it was not better then Interview.
@MaryTheVampire1 Here's the biggest mistake of today. Vampires aren't supposed to be "sexy", okay??? They are evil. That's what I hate. All the "Twilight" and "True Blood" fans. You all think vampires are supposed to be these pussy boy sparkling "sexy vampires". NOT. Want romance? Then go watch a love story. It's got no place in real horror or vampire tales.
@MultiSusmitha Because its all little girls that like it. Which is most of your moviegoing audience. It is intended and aimed at girls between 14 and 24. That's the audience that makes it popular.
it is kinda puzzling that most of the choices he/she has are not really creepy vampire movies, but it nonetheless has included "let the right one in" and the original swedish, which is a very very very good vampire movie. i'd put it up there with the old classic ones. let the right one in ( the swedish ) is just creepy and it is all because of that almost naturally creepy looking girl. let alone the simple story, typical of scandinavian cinema.
Awesome top ten. You should watch Hammer film's version of Dracula, where Christopher Lee plays Dracula. INCREDIBLE. And Martin. great low budget film that has the qualities of myths in vampires. It's great, fun and very 70s!
For me: 10 Fright Night (1985) 9 The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) 8 Vampyr (1932) 7 Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) 6 Dracula (1979) 5 Let the Right One In (2008) a recent addition and replaced Hammer's Kiss of the Vampire 4 Nosferatu (1979) 3 Horror of Dracula (1958) 2 Nosferatu (1922) 1 Dracula (1931) I'm a sucker (no pun intended) for the classics. More atmosphere, more suspense, more powerful vampires etc. Never much cared for Blade, Van Helsing, Underworld, Dracula 2000 etc. personally.
I agree Let the Right on in has to be in the top three. I think 30days of night is on of the best. You skipped Salems Lot which is a great classic. Also what about Bram Stokers Dracula? I would say thats in the top 5.
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN ALL THE WAY!!!!! TEAM ELI!! Btw I usually don't watch vampire films, but LTROI breaks all the "rules" of typical vampire films. To me it's not really a vampire film at all. it's a romance featuring a vampire. This movie really cannot be categorized. It is truly one of a kind. The remake is a complete disaster and an utter disgrace.
@laurelfan1 Everybody has their own opinions, of course. But LTROI was a movie that I enjoyed as well. And I saw it in its original, subtitled Swedish version...I bet not many here have. And I thought the re-make was done well, I bought it actually because Im a fan of Matt Reeves. But the one thing that has been turning me off to a lot of so-called vampire movies these days, is that they are romances. If I wanna see romance movies, then I'll go see romance movies. Vampires=evil and scary.
@laurelfan1 I mean you just said you dont watch vampire films..you watched this and liked it because it was a "romance". Yuck. Vampires are evil and scary.....I'm sick of the way theyve pussified them only to appeal to young females 25 and under.
@John22133 I do not think Eli a pussy at all. She is an ass kicker when needs to be. This movie is unique and I think that is a welcomed change. This is not a typical vampire story. Btw I am a 30 year old man.
@laurelfan1 I wasnt talking about "Eli"...I'm talking about the stupid teenage vampire romance crap. LTROI was an okay movie...just different because it used kids as main characters. Romance and vampires dont go together. The best vampire movie of the last 20 years was Coppola's Dracula. Since then nothing has come near it as far as direction and content. Of course the good old days, before vampires were turned into sparkling pussys.
@John22133 Yeah I HATE that Twilight bullshit. I LOVE LTROI. Personally., I think it is one of the best movies ever made bc it is so unique and beautifully made. I'm not a vampire movie fan, not I do love Dracula. I don't think that fucking stupid teenage shit can even compare to LTROI. It is just a unique movie. Yeah it has a vampire in it but she is not a typical vampire, which I personally she is in a class by herself. I love traditioal vampires. I'm just not a fan of modern vampire films :D
Of course everybody has their own opinion, and it seems to have a lot to do with age. How you can't include Coppola's 1992 film "Dracula" is beyond me. Probably one of the best vampire films ever produced.
@InsatiableVampire That's cool. LIke I said, everybody has their own opinions, and it's got everything to do with age, and what you were exposed to growing up. I don't care for the Twilight type "vampire" movies. That only pretty much appeals to females 25 and under. There are some exceptions, but everybody will agree that's pretty much the age/gender those types of movies appeal to. Vampires are evil, not sissy looking pretty boys..as movies today make them out to be. Gimme old school.
@InsatiableVampire Yeah, I've seen True Blood, I like that as well to be honest. Being a woman you're definitely going to like those male vampires. Hell, I'm a straight guy, and I even think they're sexy, ha. I think Anna Paquin is hot as hell. But I prefer her as a brunette over the blonde. I do makeup effects on the side, but most of what I do are the "Buffy" type vampire makeups, those are my favorite kinds. I do foam latex and silicone and gelatine prosthetics..other stuff, also.
That's pretty cool. And doing buffy type vampires are probably the best vampires to do makeup. Do you do it for a profession or just on the side? I'm actually doing my second video now, but the following video might be top ten "old time" vampire movies.
@InsatiableVampire As of right now, I've been doing it on the side, for independant films..but it looks like (hopefully) it's going to be my main profession soon enough..if all breaks right. I can show you some pictures of my work if you'd like. One of my favorite all time vampire series was "Forever Knight"...this was pre-Buffy....premiered on late night TV in 1992. Ran for 3 seasons. You can still see re-runs on the Sci-Fi channel, however I have all 3 seasons on DVD. Better than Buffy.
@InsatiableVampire Check out my channel..you'll see a lot of horror/FX vids I've favorited..as well as others, real estate (that I WISH I could afford, ha) along with music vids. But horror, especially vampires are my first love.
@InsatiableVampire Fright Night and Near Dark were 2 of my absolute favorites! I am afraid (as with most "re-makes") they're going to screw it up. With CGI and all that crap. Even if it turns out okay, you will never top the 1985 original. I've even met Tom Holland (Director) and the actors at various yearly horror conventions in my area. I go to about 2 or 3 a year near me.
@gothicgwen1990 Hey whats up? Yeah, TB wasnt all that bad. Still it just HAD to have some romance story involved with it. I'm tired of all that. I wanna get back to the days where vampires made your skin crawl, enough of this romance crap. If you like romance, go watch a love story. Stay away from the horror genre. The 2 don't mix. As for that Twilight" garbage, I'm sorry. That is made ONLY to appeal to teen girls and young 20-somethings. Yeah, theyre are a few older women that like it.
@gothicgwen1990 There's always going to be some exceptions to the rule. But nobody can tell me I'm not right. THAT is the target audience, here. It's why I don't care for Twilight, Vampire Diaries or the like. It isn't realistic, they make up all these new rules about vampires. And it's all about romantic subplots, using nothing but very young model-type guys and girls. Come on, please. Let's get back to SCARY, let's get back to HORRIFYING. That is what vampires are all about.
@InsatiableVampire cmoooooooon, how does no one give the recognition due to "Let me in"? It was SOOO good, and had one of the best endings i've ever seen...revenge, mmmmmm...
@InsatiableVampire Gary Oldman in his youthful Dracula look is very seductive, strong erotic images in the movie too. Copolla's Bram Stoker's Dracula is a masterpiece.
@John22133 I was about to say the same thing. Bram Stoker's Dracula has got to get some attention on a vampire poll. Excellent cast in Dracula, great directing- can't go wrong with Coppola. Wow... Bram Stoker's Dracula owns this list.
@funkkraft Absolutely right! As you can see I posted that 2 months ago. The thing is that really young people...20 and under...don't seem to know that film, as it came out in 1992. All they seem to know are the ridiculous pussy boy vampires of "Twilight", which isn nothing but a teen soap opera. Coppola's "Dracula" was and still is a masterpiece of film making. Haven't seen a production that has come close since.
I don't like clishe so I agree, Let the Right One In is a vampire classic, totally original- Let Me In can shove it were the sun don't shine- which will be good for the vampire girl at least won't it? >:)
twilight hater?? XD

@John22133 Yeah...i really think that ppl made twilight just for fame. You know how teenagers are crazy for romantic vampire movies.

Wow... Bram Stoker's Dracula owns this list.
funkkraft 9 months ago
@funkkraft Absolutely right! As you can see I posted that 2 months ago. The thing is that really young people...20 and under...don't seem to know that film, as it came out in 1992. All they seem to know are the ridiculous pussy boy vampires of "Twilight", which isn nothing but a teen soap opera. Coppola's "Dracula" was and still is a masterpiece of film making. Haven't seen a production that has come close since.
