  • PERFECT.

  • I was reading one of Bernard Cromwell's wonderful Richard Sharpe novels and he made reference to a character's "Devonian accent" -- something I'd never heard of. Thanks so much for posting this. Fascinating. I'ver heard it in a hundred different movies over the years, but now I can put a name to it.

  • " And I tells him not to, brilliant :-)

  • I have to say, after a shakey start this is actually a better attempt at Devonshire than I could manage! I grew up there too... That said the locals round my way were even more indecipherable...

I found this cause I wanted an example of the casual use of 'moi luvverrr' which I love so much :D You got that spot on :D

Pirates you are like Somali people

  • we don't talk like that :L..( obviously i can't hear people talking ina accent because im used to it lol ) but i heard matthew goode and we sound a bit more posh that's too farmer-ish; good try though..

  • thats because some of the pirates came from plymouth

  • 'Get-On ya janner!'

  • Fruitloop.....

  • FAKE BASTARD!

  • that is an old cornish accent not a devonshire accent lo practically nobody sounds like that anymore wich is a shame i like the accent

  • Kind of like the somerset accent.

  • This is my accent! lmao xD

    But not as strong!

  • Lol only really old farmers speak like that nowadays :)

  • People sound like that in Cornwall too. I mean, yeah, Cornwall's right next to Devon. People don't sound like that anymore. I wish they did. Only old Cornish men sound like that in Cornwall. The Cornish accent is almost dissapearing in Schools. In about 10 years time I reckon it'll be gone. Shame really. I'll always remember it.

I do a sehr sehr gut South Western accent, tbh.

    ;)

  • Devonshire?

  • brilliant accent i'm devonshire as well

  • The devon accent sounds like pirates because the pirate accent is based of a devon accent.

  • "I cant read & I cant write, but that dont really matter, cause I've come from barnstaple & I can drive me tractor"

  • I'm from Devon. :P

Unfortunately hardly any of us actually have the thick Devonian accent anymore, which I don't. Only the older guys, maybe 50+, mostly the farmers or people who have lived here since they were kids or for a very long time have the accent any more.

We still use the phrases assosiated with south-west, like prefixing a lot of words with "bloody", but we have more of a general accent nowadays. I wish I had a thick accent. >:

  • HAHAHA i want your voice!!!!

  • how'd they sound like pirates? tit face

  • lol!

  • Nice try but NO

  • To true my friend, sad isnt it.

  • lol yep thats how most devonshire and cornish people sound like haha

  • lmao! xD That was good.

  • Lol this is a much better attempt at a Devonshire accent. Just like all the inbreds on Dartmoor.

  • @Pugragger inbreds? haaa, immaturity levels drops yet again!

  • @samiebabesxo dude, i posted that 2 years ago???!!1111111oneoneone

  • @Pugragger yes two years indeed - this isn't my natural accent btw!

  • @Supersmooth007 well i actually speak with a west country accent, some might say its from working on dartmoor for years, you kinda picks it up my lover.

  • @Pugragger fuck you, im from devon,..¬_¬ i think u'll find the inbreds are in norfolk.

  • @xo6Escape6The6Fateox alrite dont get butthurt, i said people from dartmoor, not devon. im also from devon.

  • @Pugragger My Bad, didnt realise lol i'll withdraw the fuck u part (:

  • @xo6Escape6The6Fateox No problems my lover

  • @Pugragger lol mee loveeerrrr

  • You sound like you're from New Hampshire.

  • lmao

  • haha :D im a devoner and i sound proper devonshire in some words =]

  • @TYaar321 devonian :L not devoner lol x

  • Nice try, but I have never heard anybody pull off the west country accent authentically and you're no exception. I am from Somerset and have heard many people try to mimic the accent, but most people fail. The chap in 'The Office' (Gareth) with the south-westerly accent is the best I have ever heard.

  • Haha, that's awesome.

    Chay xx

  • LMFAO SPOT ON!! AH HA HA HA

I am a devoner but i'm glad i don;t sound like proper DEVON.. ah ha ha

  • class m8 im of to exeter 2mo il be thinking of this clip all the time now ;)

  • tell me about it then we got the cornish right next door to us ha ha.

  • lol wow cool video!!

  • haha yeh wicked

  • You really got your accents down.

    That was great.

  • That sounds like my parents!

    We do say "giit on!"

    well done

  • ha that was good, better than the northern one it must be said!

  • lol that was brilliant

  • haha...WOW .. your REAALLY goood at making an accent ... we PLEASE amke more.. se ya!

  • Yer still good i love pommie accents:) xx

  • Why is it that ANYONE attempting a Devonshire accent is unable to move any further west than Bristol. Attempts to go further west into Cornwall are even more hilariously inaccurate - Check out the old BBC "Poldark" series.

Sorry, I live in mid Devon, and only an immigrant to the area could possibly think that a proper Devon accent sounds like that.

  • Forget the other coments mate that was wicked! giiit on, i tells 'im & my lover - thats proper deb'em (devon) that is. Not like the knobs from the home counties flooding the area (totnes & exeter take note). And this comment:

"Sorry, I live in mid Devon, and only an immigrant to the area could possibly think that a proper Devon accent sounds like that. "

YOU my friend have apparently never been to any small outlying villages.

  • im going to devon on sat =D thought you'd like to know. lol funny vid =]

  • im from devon and devonshire accent is not as bold as that but you know now i now what other bloody people think of my accent

  • Love itx

  • haha awesome :P

    x

  • P.s. im from cornwall.. and well.. er i dont think the accent there is that.. strong. maybe its just when other people try the accent, they cant get it .. exactly right.. lol.. buuut my family are from Brighton in sussex so ive got some annoying more average brit accent i think.. not sure though.. i still say dun'em instead of dont they alot.. :$

    x

  • HAHA HILARIOUS!!

    Love You x x

    xHxAxZxExLx

  • hahahahaa.

  • farmers come from somerset ya pillock

  • farmers come from somerset.. ???? hahahahah do you know how stupid that sounds, thats like saying all bankers come from kent, fool. there are farms all over the country

  • shut up you try doing it loser

  • That isn't devonshire. You should be ashamed, I mean seriously that sounded nothing like anyone i know with a proper thick devonian accent.

  • Im devonshire and i dont sound like that..... But im not a farmer....

  • hilarious wot a farmer

  • hahaha

alot better than yorkshire and sottish

    short but sweet.
