There seem to be a lot of people talking about Yoruici's and Soi Fon's zapaktos, I have my oppinions of them. But.... Does anyone know why Yoruichi can turn into a cat? I can not come up with a good reason for that. It's cool and all, but why is she the only charicter in bleach who can turn into an animal? (excluding espada and zanpaktos)

Think about it. She uses Hakuda and Hoho as mastered fighting styles, must have attained even Bankai in order to be a captain, and was able to create a high level Kido-Hakuda-Technique. So she must be a person who mastered every one of the Zankenzoki, the 4 ways of shinigami combat. She even can cast "Hado 63: Raikouhou" without saying a word. Yoruichi sure is badass, without a overpowered zanpaktou like Aizen's.

She doesn't need a Zampacto. But is awkward, because each Zampacto's fundamental nature is a reflection of their Shinigami Master. And her nature is speed. Ichigo's nature is bravery and endurance, which his Zampacto doesn't quite reflect. Zangetsu is actually better suited for Yoruichi.

And a better Zampacto for Ichigo would be one that would allow him to live longer. His own Hollow Powers sort of fulfills that role on its own, so he really doesn't need Zangetsu and it doesn't match him too.

If they take the captain's exam however, they must know how to efficiently know how to use bankai. It is unclear what Yourichi has done.

And besides that in the soul society arc Aizen seemed to bolt out of the central 46 place when Unohana arrived. If he thought he was really more powerful then Unohana he would have attacked her like he did to Momo and Hitsugaya. It would be one less Captain for Aizen to have to worry about later so if he was able to defeat her then he would have.

Of coarse people will argue Unohana isnt as powerful as Aizen, but as we seen in the manga Yamamoto is still quite a bit more powerful then Aizen due to how easily he trapped Aizen EVEN WHEN HE HAD BOTH GIN AND TOUSEN WITH HIM. And Tite Kubo has strongly hinted that Unohana is the 2nd oldest and 2nd most powerful Captain.

It's shown in an OVA, it appears to be shorter than a Katana, seems to be a Kodachi or Wakizashi, as it's bigger than a kunai by quite a bit. Unlike Naruto's apparently conception of kunai, they're very, very short. The ones shown in Naruto are stylized, the 'throw away' kunai most used are really, really small. The blade is at most as long as the width of your fist. That's really the only time she's shown using her sword, she has yet to use Shikai or Bankai.
