  • This song was 30 years ago no.10 in the world charts #manhattan #transfer

  • Why are the women wearing so much clothes?

  • Manhattan Transfer was arguably the best signing quartet of the times. They're just as outstanding A Cappella as well. One of my favorites isTwilight Zone - just superb... (remove the space in the URL before the .com)

    youtube. com/watch?v=TJ8Mp_08rwk

  • Omg, what the hell is this, two desperate old housewives and their old couchpotatoes doin karaoke in the trailerpark??

  • @zarathuztra6 I sure their trailer park is much more upscale than yours. They made millions.

  • Performance Confidence: She pushes her hair up in a scrunchy, strolls on stage - and belts.

  • If you think this is good try the original by the Ad Libs

  • @ringo244

No kidding...hey, the Ad Libs (original) is indeed excellent.

I think I like the Manhattan Transfer version because it's a little more upbeat.

You're absolutely right - this white boy observed that that white chick can flat-out bring it! By the way - does 33139 refer to your b'day? If so, mine is 32139! Cheers -

  • my school jazz chorus is doing this song!!!

  • @cjs...I'm with ya on that....when this song first came out, I was like 6, before Mtv, VHS, or YouTube...the only way to SEE the musicians was Banstand, Solid Gold, or live show, the record aisle @Kmart..I thought (remember I was 6) she was Aretha..definitely a voice for soul indeed..and I'm sure there were many "white girl" soul singers that were mistaken..Aretha set such an untouchable standard for soul, most assumed soul artists to be of color : )

  • Wow, who knew you could get mens shoes that color before the invention of crocs.

  • Love this song but these old videos REALLY make me thankful that shoulder pads went the way of the dinosaur!!!

  • this version and the ad libs version kicks butt....

  • I just like if for being the theme song of wrestler "The Boogy Woogy Man" Jimmy Valiant.

  • Simply the best at what they do. Love this music.

  • amen brother

  • 100% Live incredible performance!!

  • Absolutely magnificent group! I never wanted to like this group, but their tremendous talent MADE me love 'em. Vocals just don't get any better!

  • musica de los 80 muy buena aldeano de new york saz......

  • This is the group that inspired the israeli succseful group "Habibi" ...

    ("Hakol over habibi" in hebrew)

  • Some people kid me for liking this group (we live on a ranch where country music rules), but they are awesome! Always have been a favorite of mine and always will be.

  • I love it !!! One of my best Group Singer..

  • Attractive female singers^^!wow*

  • The Manhattan Transfer really can sing, and this was demonstrated in the song "The Boy From New York City" this song is a classic. bduncombe

  • Hanno grinta e sono dei grandi musicisti, cosa si può chiedere di più ???

    Long Live Manhattan Trasfer !!!

  • All of them do a really excellent job. (I have seen live shows of all kinds and often the musicians can't help but spoil it by being immensely bored.) I really like the vocalist esp "Twilight zone" which was a hit about 1980.

  • bravoooo

  • La chanteuse est bien LAUREL MASSÉ ?

  • Non.

  • I have seen them many times! Where are the actual videos???? I used to be a big fan, like most people wanna hear the ole stuff and see the ole stuff!

  • I love the Manhattan Transfer, I have a nice collection of their music.

  • Awesome!!! - follow this up with : sha na na - unchained melody...

  • Love 0:39. Now THAT makes chills go down MY spine!

  • My choir is singing this for our pops concert! This sounds so much better than we do

  • A wonderful song and a great perfomance.

  • Where my street people at?

  • Let me guess. You're a Jimmy Valiant fan, right?

  • Hell Yeah!

  • anyone had a video of manhattan transfer's version of unchained melody?

  • "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant theme music

  • remember this one......

  • my sisters class (of 2004) sang this song when they were in like, 10th grade i think. i was in like 5th grade and i loved it! i personally think they sounded better, though.

  • wow, I am child of the late 70's/80s and I grew up in NYC during that time and heard of MT but never knew THEY sang this song! I remember hearing it on the radio all the time. Now this lead singer, she got pipes! Wow, this white girl can sing! The singers of today suck compared to what was real music back then.

  • You are so right about the lead; she is Janis Siegel and she rocks. Pipes is right. Janis has extensively recorded and is in great demand. Check out the other videos available for her.

  • @cjs33139 Janis and Manhattan Transfer are still singin!

  • @cjs33139 ~ They didn't do the original version of the song, if that's what you meant. The original hit was done by the Ad-Libs. And the lead singer, "this white girl," is Janis Siegel. Can I assume that you DIDN'T mean that only black girls "got pipes"?

  • @cjs33139 haha, no... thanks for the info... I just was making a comment about how she happened to sing so well. I guess I shouldn't have added the "white" girl comment because I am a person of color and I am fully aware that it's not only black girls that can sing. :) She just has a lot of soul in her voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @cjs33139 The original was by the Ad Libs from New Jersey and it was their only hit, released in 1965, also covered (and a hit for) Uk band Darts.

    Definitely not a MT song.

  • @cjs33139 I know it's been awhile since you posted, but you should find a good clip of MH doing 'Operator'-- I think you'll be impressed- wait til she wails it at the end! LAWDY!

  • I appreciate their longevity.

  • I love boys from New York City!

  • i love this song!

  • LOL I had this on "Laserdisc" when it came out. Wonder if it's on DVD anywhere.

  • love it

  • I always thought Hauser was kind of cute

  • to PJScooter.well i don't know if tim h is cute or not,i'm a guy so i can only say if a chick is cute or not! what i mean is that the other 3 LOOK the part and tim doesn't. he doesn't have a good singing voice and he's a little fella so doesn't blend in. i'm not saying he's not talented,i just don't know where that talent lies!

  • now i know i'm gonna get some flak for this but i'll accept that. to me mt are the worlds best live group, and i love most of everything they do. BUT...i've always felt that tim hauser doesn't belong there! even 30 years ago he looked completely out of place. i know he's the guy who brought this whole man tran thing together but(that word again)i can't honestly say he does anything worthwhile (visually)for them.he's awkward and doesn't fit in. sorry guys but that's how i feel.the rest are great.

  • nutpret--To see another side of Tim hauser, go give the video of "Killer Joe" elsewhere on youtube a listen. Tim is more than a legacy.

  • well mate i did as you suggested and have just watched the vid of 'killer joe'. as soon as it started i hated it! I HATE HATE HATE JAZZ!! to me it's the worst music (MUSIC? NO!) in this world. i'd truly rather be deaf than have to suffer the torment of that utter shit called jazz. i don't like mt doing that kinda crap, that's why i said i like MOST of what they do. jazz is the exception.like i say,tim must have talent, but only cos he brought mt together,he gets top marks for that. but he's ok.

  • Comment removed

  • @nuipret: who cares what you like or dislike?!? I just lovee jazz...

  • well you obviously DO CARE what i like or dislike! if you didn't care you wouldn't mail me and tell me so! but that's ok,we're all different in so many ways, what a drag it would be if we were all the same eh? we'd all die of boredom! but thank you for giving me your opinion laritta. good luck.

  • well maybe(just maybe)i'll change my mind about tim. i've just watched mt on 'the old grey whistle test'(the best music show this country has ever produced,so called because if the old grey haired doorman was heard to whistle your song, well you knew you had a hit!),mt are singing 'OPERATOR' and tim looks kinda cool FOR ONCE! yeah he looks the part. yet most of the time he doesn't! kinda strange eh? but that's only my opinion and not meant to cause offence to anyone, least of all tim.

  • Just saw them today in Copenhagen and they freakin' rocked the house!! Must agree with

    acerb45666555: Pure class! FIAIAIAIN :P

  • that singer kicks ass!!!

  • they were the best at this form of music!! pure class!!

  • omg this is my fav song by them. they were such a great group.

  • shining forever.

  • A wonderful song and a great perfomance.

  • In case you're wondering, this is at a concert in JAPAN. Manhattan Transfer... "Big in Japan"

He says: "Tatte Kudasai" which means... "Please Stand"

Also, conservative crowd free from hollerers (that would show disrespect) is a dead giveaway.

  • They were in Hong Kong around that time and the audience was more or less, still! lol They performed at the Lee Theatre and I am so glad I was there :)

  • They were in their prime in the 80's... love this one!

  • Love them.I see they do Chanson D'amour. That's cool-I have a video of Art & Dotty Todd on Dick Clarks Sat Night Beechnut Show.Love the fact that they do Lonely Way-my fav Skyliners tune.

  • I was just a kidd when i heard this song and I loved it then and still do........

  • Hell, man tran. these dudes and chicks are the super group of all time.who can do a live performance like they can? NO ONE!. SHEER CLASS. ABSOLUTE MINDBLOWING HARMONIES AND 2 SUPER SEXY CHICKS THAT ARE THE BEST,AND TWO GUYS THAT ARE TERIFIC SINGERS AND PERFORMERS I LOVE THESE GUYS.THEY LIFT MY SPIRITS WHENEVER I FEEL A BIT DOWN. THANKS JANIS AND CHERYL AND PAUL AND TIM.I LOVE YOU ALL MAN. LIVE FOREVER.

  • this is my hiphop/jazz song for my dance class

  • is that Graydon on guitar?

  • Wasn't this a theme song for a wrestler?

  • muy buna rola

  • Briiiiiliant they are legends!!!

  • the studio version is a little bit better, it's not so fast...

    but...

    ...great music

  • Yep, great stuff! I do like the slower groove a little better, but the energy of the live hall m o r e than makes up for any imperfection. IMHO

  • Can't get enough!!!
