This ride was way more smooth after the first incident. I was a rides associate for this ride the last year it was running. I rode it atleast 10 times before they shut it down for the year in the middle of the season.

@mw2110 its been shut down since '09 and nobody died on it. thats the firehawk, and that was not the rides fault, it was a heart attack. the injury on the son of beat was from an elderly person who wanted to get some money.

Every day I went to work at KI in 2010 it was sad to see this awesome masterpiece SBNO (Standing But Not Operating). I really hope they make the right decision and retrack it and open it back up. For those of you that had the injuries from this ride, sorry for the pain but come on! You ruined it for the rest of us.

@dudeman0151 This is/was the fastest wooden coaster. Prowler goes 51 miles per hour while Son of Beast goes 78. The fastest coaster in the world is Kingda Ka which goes 128, but a coaster called Formula Rossa is supposed to go 149 when it opens.

Additionally, I've heard of wooden roller coasters that are much worse, and much more hated, than Son of Beast. Psyclone at Six Flags Magic Mountain was one. It had brakes slowing it on every turn. Then there's California's Great America's Grizzly, also ranks low. Son of Beast could rank among the level of Grizzly, but it's iconic. Besides, a 218 foot tall coaster won't come down easily. Of all the hypercoasters I've known, they've never been relocated.
