I'm sure Roy and JLL crossed paths in their younger years. This was a PBS fund-raising special from the early 80s or so, I remember seeing it. Roy's playing during, I think, the Drifters "Save the Last Dance for Me" was also magical.
@Bigfootdean My idea of a great musician is to play something that compliments the music, not just "well played" or "impressive". For the same reason I don't like James Burton's playing with Jerry Lee Lewis, but that certainly doesn't mean that I don't think Buton is very talented, same as Roy.

I've seen them both live. I saw Jerry Lee at the Ryman. Buchanan I stumbled upon at a place called the Cannery. Both are incredible.
