  • Baaaaaaaawwwww ;~;

  • so nostalgic

  • Words can't descbribe the nostalgia this scene gives me

  • dont lose! me! dont lose me! In the end she did. so sad

  • Absolutely heartbreaking.

  • For the record, I am a woman, but I've always found Faye's character really enjoyable. I don't know why people see her as one-dimensional. She couldn't remember her past self, so she did the best she could to get by. From what I've seen, the Bebop verse is a pretty tough place to live in. She plays a great game, but she's got insecurities. She tries not to get caught up in caring, but she ends up caring anyways. This part really makes me sad because she was so loving and so pure, and she was...

  • @Orochimarusbitch ...twisted into this desperate, shameless person. She uses what she can (looks, guns, and a little bit of luck) to get by. She's not like Julia, smart, dangerous, and beautiful... she's not like Edward, carefree and innocent, with mad computer skills... She's just Faye, a hard luck woman. So, yeah, I love her character and all her flaws and all her sass.

  • @Orochimarusbitch great post wish i could express myself like that :-).

scene is simply Heartbreaking to me.

  • what a great show

  • I hate this character so much. Oh look she has a "deep and emotional" past self which somehow is used as a justification for having a completely shallow and one-dimensional current self. There's absolutely no evidence that these two versions of the character are the same person at all. I chalk it up to poor storytelling rather than anything else.

  • @PsychoJosh The thing is that's the narrative tool in play, the contrast of character. The idea being going to the central mechanic used throughout the whole anime, the futility of trying to escape your past, its about Faye seeing what she once was and by extension lost. Back then its shown she had a caring childhood, friends and a reasonable financial foundation; now she's a savaging narcissist. It's not so much about justification for her character as a tragedy at what she lost.

  • @Dreamingmerc I don't see that. I just see blatant and obnoxious fanservice design. This is completely subjective.

  • @PsychoJosh Oh entirely, on the other hand this is one of the few anime's I can name off hand that pass the Bechdel Test for what that's worth.I only argue that this series in particular is smart enough to go for what I talked about before. Because it fails for you doesn't diminish the attempt or craft.

  • @PsychoJosh complexity eludes you my friend. faye's character is one giant defense mechanism to a world she woke up in that was completely alien to her. strip that away, and you have the soul of a sweet, lost little girl who's just trying to find her way.

none of this was made justification for anything; it just is. it's just a story being told, and a beautiful, elegant one at that.

  • @oldfrend Ugh. Fanboys like you fawning over trite boilerplate crap like this using wet soppy words like "beautiful" and "elegant" turn the bile in my stomach. You're the reason anime creators refuse to innovate in any way because you just eat this shit up and demonstrate your inability to apply scrutiny to anything whatsoever. I think this show is demeaning to women and really far up its own ass with tautological platitudes yet you think it's "elegant". I hate people like you so much.

  • @PsychoJosh Obviously the existentialist alienation of the self went way over your head.

  • @PsychoJosh

calm down mate its only anime character not real life.

  • @PsychoJosh The reason she acts like that is because people exploited her and abandon her, thus she hides her real emotions with a stuff exterior. I dated a few girls like that.

  • Its sad cause Faye blew up and then became a gambler in space

  • Whats this anime about?

  • @Bluestarwarrior1 bounty hunters in space. Their are over twenty something episodes. But their five episodes that involve plot. It is really excellent show. It play on adult swim for a long time.

  • Fuck.. that legitimately made me sad. I long to feel like that again. Time only corrodes what gift of self we possess, if I can't be my own...what am I?

  • Chills through my body every time... but in a good way.

  • When I was a kid my mother died, too young to really remember anything. My father lived away from me and I was cared for by a foster parent. I'd grown up hearing horror stories of the life that she would have given me.

In highschool I came across an old VHS tape with some scribbles and my name on it. Curiously I took it, and put it in the machine. It was my mother, my father and me. Everyone was happy. I was just a baby.

I remember having the exact same look as Faye, followed by hysterics.

  • This dub is the best that I've heard for any anime.

  • scenes like this make me miss being little again

  • @EnigmaPhenomenon I feel the exact way..

  • That is a great scene ty so much for posting this VERY EPIC!

  • This anime is so terribly sad. The only comic relief is Ed and it just sucked that she left the group.

  • I'm not so sure Faye was in love with Spike toward the end, so much as transferring her feelings onto him. All through the series she was hoping that when she finally remembered that she would find a home and family waiting for her-someplace she could belong in the strange world she woke up into. When it turned out otherwise, she wanted someone to turn to for consolation and wanted that someone to be Spike. But love that does not make.

  • Fuck almost. This scene makes me tear up almost every time. We all had someone like young Faye inside once. And that person is long gone.

  • You know, I would have reversed the order of the "backstory wham episodes".

The episode where Jet fought Udai Taxim again could have been switched with his divorced wife's episode, as it would hint at why Jet "ended up here" while the episode where his wife appears would hammer in on what defined his character.

This episode could have happened before the episode with the guy who saved Faye, hinting that she had a romance, and this confirming she once had a more peaceful life.

  • And the episode where Viscous first appeared could be switched with the episode "Jupiter Jazz" arc; which would introduce Viscous seemingly as a "random figure" from Spike's past, while the episode where Viscous meets Faye and fights Spike hand-to-hand in a church would kick off their rivalry AS WELL as get us wondering how Viscous survived his ship's crash in JJPart 2.

  • Life is sometimes just not worth the trouble.

  • Not gonna lie, when I first saw this on AS I had tears running down my face. She was really put in the most impossible situation and there is no way she can ever get home.

  • O-o that made me want to kill myself so that never happens... I'll die over and over again in my life becoming completely diffrent... -_- -sigh- I'm planning my death already pitiful.

  • WA-TA-SHI! WA-TA-SHI! WA-TA-SHI!

  • subs not dubs zzzzzz

  • Now she is proud of herself

  • After this scene, I just couldn't get mad at Faye ... no matter what she did throughout the anime. Such a sad past.

  • COWBOY BEBOP IS THE BEST ANIME EVER

  • @khalreblic23 hell ya

  • So did her family die? What about cousins or aunts or uncles, why is no one there for her? I was super upset when she found where she lived again but there was nothing there anymore :( not fair

  • @silvermoonlight29 It's likely that her house was destroyed by a meteor. When they were testing out the first Gateway for space travel right by Earth they ended up destroying the moon. Faye at that moment was in space on a shuttle. Earth on the other hand got hit by meteors from the moon badly.

It's a shame really. That gateway bullshit is what made her a Bounty Hunter and Gambler.

  • @silvermoonlight29 She had one friend who survived the intial bombardment, she is an elderly grandmother who recognizes Faye but Faye claims she is a ghost when she meets her. This is most likely an attempt to run away and cut off her connection to her past even though she knows its right there.

  • deep

  • sooo sad but i did not cry. I SWEAR!!!!

  • Does anyone know the exact episode this is from?? X3

  • I just started watching Cowboy Bebop.

So can someone tell me why is this so emotional? Did she leave after this or something?

  • @jordansmn why the hell are you watching this if you just stared watching cowboy bebop this is fays biggest spoiler in here story line but Sean you have all ready Sean it i will explain...she lost her memory from being in an residential (she possibly died and was revived by doctors but this is unlikely because the doctor was like scamming her or something) anyway its sad because she dose not remember her child hood meaning she dose not remember the joy of being a little girl and full of joy.

  • if fay valentine was real, she would be 16 right now

  • This message is for anyone who hasn't seen Cowboy Bebop, or maybe just hasn't f'd with anime at all (or just for a long time) for whatever reason.

First time I saw this was on Adult Swim. Mind blowing series-- completely re-ignited my love for the modern medium of anime after what seemed like a decade long creative drought. And still hardly any series comes close to the excitement, drama and moodiness of Cowboy Bebop. And the music is exceptional for a cartoon.

Promise, you'll spaz out on it.

  • Her hometown is Singapore. Faye Valentine is a Singaporean.... o.OIII

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LMAO

  • @zeeweirdeye- the episode is Speak Like a Child

    so good and sad

  • Ummmmm im sorry but this isnt sad to me...

  • @TheJutterbug Have you seen the series?

  • Omg its sooo cute. I felt like crying. I LOOOOVE FAYE

  • i told myself I wasn't gonna even weep, I did anyway, good stuff though!

  • This is the first time I just about broke down in tears watching this. I had actually at home. It's sad due to seeing Faye discovering what she lost.

  • poor Faye...

  • It's so hard to not tear up watching this. I mean, Faye did lose her, that younger brighter version of herself. And even after getting her memory back, there would be no way to ever get her back again.

  • one of the saddest moments from the greatist anime ever!

  • I hadn't cried in years until I stumbled across this. I can't even watch this entire video. =\

  • see you space cowgirl

  • Which episode is this? Haha...the scene in the TV resembles singapore...esp. the merlion

  • This scene will always, always in my mind be the most powerful scene in an anime.

For some unexplained power I feel this draw to Faye more than any other character in anything really.

  • Makes me wish I would've done something like this for myself 10 years ago

  • its true what she said

i wont be there in the future for you but im cheering for you now here that made me smile

  • IM WATCHING THIS RIGHT NOW on ADULT SWIM!!! so sad

  • This. <3

  • es de la U la cabra chica xd

  • es de la U la cabra chica xd

  • Faye's expression at 3:08: PRICELESS!!

And I get the significance and emotions of the scene and its importance. But I can just imagine Faye thinking, "WOW!! I was such a weird person back in the day."

  • Faye was so cute when she was little ^_^.

  • A cartoon that has a better plot and character development than 99% of anything that made it's way to American television, although many of us knew of it long before then.

  • @cbass5511

Television drama has actually improved immensely since the last decade. I think that's why most hollywood movies blow these days cause many of the exceptional scriptwriters have moved into television. check out The Wire or Breaking Bad if you want writing on par with this show.

  • @stoogefest16 yea man, breaking bad is the best non-anime show iv seen in my life

  • FAYE WAS FROZEN TODAY

  • I think I even cried a little the first time I saw the scene. Pretty powerfull if you think about it, a past version of yourself remind you to be yourself. But over time (in this case because of a chryosleep) you have lost who you are. it can speak to any of us.

  • @delamaize I agree. Time moves on. Seasons change, years go by, And people change. Sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. Its important to always keep that sense of wonder and curiosity that a child always carries. If ur not careful, u will lose yourself in the big world.

  • she never saw it commin like we are today. well never see the end till its comming at us, poor fae and unfortunate us.

  • Oh yeah, this part is pretty sad, it's made to be sad.

  • If she was 15 at the timing of this video, then she would be taping this in 2006. 2006 was some of the best days of Adult Swim and Youtube. I hate Faye as a character, but this tape gives me some sympathy for her.

  • "You're not perfect, but you've got a lot to give, so, remember, I'll always be cheering you on."

I think we all need a younger version of ourselves telling us this from day to day.

Lord knows, right now in my life, taking community college and thinking about what I'll be doing in the future, I really need it.

  • @TheWiseGuy784 for some reason it makes me tear up when i picture a little me cheering me on

  • On a lighter note, Could you imagine how awkward that video was for Jet and Spike to watch; standing next to Faye? Even I don't think Spike could of came up with a smart-ass comment to soften the blow for Faye.

  • I remember watching this scene when I was 12 and it made me cry and I'm a guy lol But hey, what canI say, you have to feel something for poor Faye... She lost her memory and she didn't remember her chidlhood... <= (

I stil lcried watching this scene again and seeing the Adult Swim logo made me miss old school Adult Swim when they were the sh*t.

    Awesome upload, definitely nostalgic.

  • The saddest part is when you imagine yourself in Faye's position. We were once bright-eyed kid with all sorts of potential and dreams and for most of us, we lose sight of those dreams and wind up in jobs we don't like working for someone else. Disappointments mount building cynicism, caution, mistrust, etc. ...but don't forget who you really are- who you once were- you owe yourself to do the best you can. Am I reading too much into a cartoon? maybe ;)

  • @SirCoffee1971 nope not at all. I totally agree with you. ^_^

  • @SirCoffee1971 - Maybe some tv shows load a little more psychology into some episodes w / others are just brain snacks. ;~)

  • @SirCoffee1971 not at all.. your words touched me and i almost teared up.... we do forget who we were when we were young.. so full of hope and dreams.. but reality usually kicks in to tear those hopes away with the monotony of existing.. some manage to hold on to them though.. but not enough... i thank you for reminding me that hope never dies.. it just goes away for a while.. maybe it comes back.. but maybe it doesn't.. but even that is hope.

  • I know nobody cares but Faye and I are born in the

    same year in 1994. ^_^

  • @peniosasdasd

the cartoons would be more emotional if the actor playing spike is keanu reeves. :P

  • That's some emotional pain.

I mean...can you imagine what anyone who forgot/ tried to forget there past selves, only to become an ass, pessimistic or just heartless. Then after seeing a tape of their younger selves being all fun and optimistic, would just break someone down.

    Poor Faye

  • Is the piano melody in the background a separate song? It would be nice to get the music, though it isn't too complicated.

  • @Esrevereverse The piano song in the background is called "High socks", It's here on youtube. = )

  • That damn, "See you Space Cowboy" always gets me. xP

  • where did all that food come from? lol always complaining about the lack of food and there is NO way a live action film could give me the emotions I get from watching the anime. it will never compare.

  • @drewmcfly

Yeah because cartoons are naturally more emotional than actual people.

  • @Quiksilver209 I think this scene is sad because Faye is looking into her past, and it is telling her not to lose who she is. She was robbed of her childhood innocence when her memory was erased. She was so over whelmed she caused a lot of trouble in her frustrations for the crew of Bebop. She tried to escape the truth, by putting a wall up and acting cold and independent. But the truth is, and is made very evident in this scene, that she is very vulnerable and insecure....

  • @Quiksilver209 well because her personality is nothing like her young self in the video, she cant remember her past, shes alone, and she had that accident, i guess she had a lot of aspirations in the video and shes living a tough life on the run from debt collectors...but yea there is not a solid reason of why its sad...it just is

  • so who sent the tape was it her in the past? like a request to send the tape in 40 years time

  • I cry a lot when I see this scene T_T

  • What makes this video even cooler is the VHS static on the top of the actual video.

  • I still wanna know how she managed to turn into a badass after getting out of cryostasis. sad scene though nonetheless

  • @Stiglitz51 theres an episode all about it xD look it up its rather hilarious

  • @AVampiresDream yea but all she did was shout WHAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT ive seen the ep lol

  • @AVampiresDream or scream i cant quite remember

  • @AeroZero21 you're 77? xD

  • @Quiksilver209

Because Faye was involved in an accident in which her entire memory was wiped out. She was cryogenically (spelling?) preserved for like 40 years or so. In the time she was preserved, the world completely changed. In this episode, the two male characters Jet and Spike found a tape somewhere by mistake. The tape is of Faye when she was younger.

This scene is of her for the first time catching a glimpse of who she was before the accident and the memory loss.

  • fuck i got really teary eyed, yeah this is one of the saddest scenes in the series.

  • Not gonna cry... not gonna cry...

  • nyaaw faye was cute back then and now :3

  • wow...sad

  • sad indeed =,[

  • who sent those tapes!?

  • Faye had it hard.....what a sad character. smoking hot yet ice cold.

  • it is a very sad scene.

  • This scene made me cry too... but I felt worse during "Hard Luck Woman".

  • this scene really touches me..........

  • @HumanHunterrr that your over 20........lol

  • Comment removed

  • shit my spelling sux, i blam this comp

  • aw...poor Faye.

  • Faye was really cute when she was a kid. :D Oh and I'm 16 so don't call me a pedophile.

  • Comment removed

  • Shit tripped me out last night..

  • damn it shatters ur heart

  • Aw man...

  • I may not be emotionally sensitive, but this scene(along with other anime scenes) left an emotional impact on me. When an anime does that, I can tell that I'm in for a treat.

  • for me the saddest part was @ episode 24 when the song "call me" started playing. *sniff*

  • @FrYLocK41 yam call me heartless, but i felt nothing during this seen, however when faye and ed left i got a little choked up, just a litte

  • I feel so sorry for Faye, the bebop really is the only family she has even though they pretend they don't like her and she pretends she doesn't like them. The last dialouge with Faye and Spike in the Real Folk Blues shows her true feelings though

  • Sad... :(

  • It would have been fucking hilarious if it was a porno movie...

Seriously though, she doesn't even remember her name :-(

  • poor faye :(

  • what episode is this?

  • @1wellinglover I'd reccomend to watch all the episodes in the rightful order & context. This scene is really, really touching when you are aware of the plot background.

  • Speak Like a Child

  • @liggins

Thanks so much, no one would tell me, I had one guy saying I should really watch all the episodes, and I'm like dude I have like 12yrs ago!! So Thanks

  • faye act like she self centered and all but deep inside she do like for spike and everyone.

  • Faye Valentine is always shown as such a selfish, greedy, stuck - up little " you - know - what " ( Rhymes with " blunt " ), that it's unusual to see her as an idealistic, optimistic, likeable kid.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 obviously u didnt get the meaning of cowboy bebop lol if u think that

  • @yaoiluvr4eva

What meaning ? Adult Faye IS self - centered, greedy, petty, mean - spirited & she only thinks of herself. Seeing her in a flash - back as an idealistic, hopeful pre - adolescent girl is almost unbelievable.

  • @yaoiluvr4eva

& I wouldn't mind having Younger Faye as a daughter or niece even if I knew she was going to grow into a jaded, cynical, greedy, amoral & largely SUPERFICIAL adult.

Heroes & protaganists are not always shining examples of humanity, i.e. : Shining knights on white horses.

  • lolz if watchin that epi didnt tell u why faye acts the way she does then nvm x)

  • @yaoiluvr4eva

She was having trouble living up to the ideals & expectations of her younger, more innocent self, maybe ?

And Faye did suffer from some memory loss.

  • lol see ya do get it xD

  • @yaoiluvr4eva

Seeing herself as a kid brought back some feelings she forgot she had, I guess.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 I think she HAS to be jaded, cynical and greedy in this world. She's from the past and lost all of her memories. You have to be a crooked in that world or your dead

  • @p7mggifkuis - Everybody has a different survival mechanism. I could imagine being the same way, perhaps. She lost the " inner child " that was so positive & upbeat, & that would be painful.

  • judging from 0:45 she's from singapore

  • @renaki from what I heard she was actually only moved there to live there momentarily, her origins are really unknown.

  • @DarkTempIarKain

i wish they told more of her background...

  • @renaki from what i figure she came from a rich family travelling the world or a military background family. just slightly more was hinted upon this that she wasn't from/born in that country thus we will never know. Oh well..

  • wow man, wow... just wow, i mean wow like whoa

what a fffucking coincidence, im stunned...

dont worry there are no stupid comments, just stupid people

  • i never understood, was he a clone or frozen? i remember that she was in a space ship when something happened to the moon

  • I think she was just frozen until they had the technology to repair her body after the incident

  • Yea the gate exploded and destroyed the moon. That's why people can't live on the earth anymore.

  • *sad*

  • I miss those adult swim days.

  • @winterdream88 they still air Bebop. I'm watching it now

  • *dun dun dun*

    Don't get on a spaceship in 2014...

  • what is faye? I never got that.
