But their methods of conquest were different. The Inca acquired their territories more through diplomacy than war. Also, their territories were both beyond any boundaries that they wished to conquer so they wouldn't really have had a reason to fight if they had ever met up.

dude the Aztec sacrifices are WAYYY exaggerated, all of that stuff is from the Europeans point of view, we never heard the Aztecs point of view since the damn euopeans nearly killed em all. so yeh, the Aztecs sacrificed but its WAYY exaggerated because of the way Europeans tell it.
What book? And they weren't wild savages. They were a civilized people with morals, laws, philosophies, art and much more. They were no more violent than any other world civilization, but too many people do not look past the exaggerated stereotypes of sacrifice.
I'm not saying that sacrifices didn't happen, I'm just saying that they have been exaggerated. And people often overlook the really great accomplishments of these civilizations and the complexities of their religious beliefs. Regular school text books are no good, they just repeat the same myths and stereotypes, like they always have. More recent books devoted to in depth research on these cultures tend to be more unbiased and far more detailed on the actual history.
I don't know much about that stuff, that's only what i read. I'm more into viking history, European dark age history, Greek mythology, that kinda jazz.
Thats good. But theres a ton more history out there. It's worth it to try and learn as much as you can. Just remember, you can't just go writing of people as savage, you have to try and understand them and their way of seeing things.

It's certainly true that all cultures engage in warfare including the mesoamericans but the level of destruction brought by the Spanish Empire goes beyond warfare or "winners" and "losers" as you put it. This was the genocide and the destruction of an entire civilization on a level rarely seen in the history of humanity. The Aztecs werent the only victims either, the Spaniards also killed, enslaved and oppressed their former allies and their descendants for hundreds of years.

It's hard for some to accept, but the Aztecs were colonalists themselves, with all the ugly baggage of that.
The Aztecs ruled over mesoamerica by collecting tributes from other tribes and capturing their enemies as sacrificial victims rather than killing them on the battlefield like Europeans. The Aztecs were certainly brutal warriors but their actions dont even begin to compare to the actions of the Spanish Empire which categorically destroyed thousands of years of histories of many different cultures. They also killed, enslaved and oppressed millions upon millions across Latin America for centuries.
The Mexica never sacrificed 20,000 people a year, thats just a myth. The actual number would have 300-400 yearly. When the Mexica conquered a territory they didn't go around killing raping and enslaving, thats how the Spaniards did it, but that would been considered barbaric to the natives.

Obsidian is not stone. It's volcanic glass. And they made for very effective cutting weapons. And as I said before, they also used bronze and copper.

Regular school text books are no good, they just repeat the same myths and stereotypes, like they always have. More recent books devoted to in depth research on these cultures tend to be more unbiased and far more detailed on the actual history.

I don't know much about that stuff, that's only what i read. I'm more into viking history, European dark age history, Greek mythology, that kinda jazz.

Thats good. But theres a ton more history out there. It's worth it to try and learn as much as you can. Just remember, you can't just go writing of people as savage, you have to try and understand them and their way of seeing things.

This is just the most blantant example, but so many people love to whine about Europeans coming in and changing things.
Please, the Aztecs had slaves, human sacrifices, and invaded and dominated other tribes. The Spanish were able to defeat them because other Mexican tribes joined in the fight against the Aztecs.
Societies go to war, seek to dominate, seek advantage by force. There are no "noble" people, just people. Winners and Losers.

It's certainly true that all cultures engage in warfare including the mesoamericans but the level of destruction brought by the Spanish Empire goes beyond warfare or "winners" and "losers" as you put it. This was the genocide and the destruction of an entire civilization on a level rarely seen in the history of humanity. The Aztecs werent the only victims either, the Spaniards also killed, enslaved and oppressed their former allies and their descendants for hundreds of years.

I'm sure the question of degree would have been of little interest to the 20,000 people a year whose hearts were plucked out.
Had the Aztecs not been defeated, can you say this would not have continued on? Can you say their enslavement and erasure of other Indian cultures would have stopped and not broaded further?
Again, there are few white hats and few black hats in history.
It's hard for some to accept, but the Aztecs were colonalists themselves, with all the ugly baggage of that.

The Aztecs ruled over mesoamerica by collecting tributes from other tribes and capturing their enemies as sacrificial victims rather than killing them on the battlefield like Europeans. The Aztecs were certainly brutal warriors but their actions dont even begin to compare to the actions of the Spanish Empire which categorically destroyed thousands of years of histories of many different cultures. They also killed, enslaved and oppressed millions upon millions across Latin America for centuries.

The Mexica never sacrificed 20,000 people a year, thats just a myth. The actual number would have 300-400 yearly. When the Mexica conquered a territory they didn't go around killing raping and enslaving, thats how the Spaniards did it, but that would been considered barbaric to the natives.

Yeah right. Deny anything or seek to reduce the truth that the Aztecs were not the noble people you want them to be.
The enslaved (now try and make that pretty) and they ripped the hearts our of terrified victims. Feel free to argue the number of victims, that's just a matter degree. Had the Aztecs had more resources, more tribes would have fallen to them.
People get so worked up over the Aztecs, because that's pretty much the highwater mark for Mexico, a 3rd World Country since.

I don't why you feel so obligated to talk down about the Aztecs. But you obviously don't know anything about the history. The human sacrifice may not have been pretty, but it didn't happen the way you described it. The Aztecs only made human sacrifices during certain times of the year, religious festivals. What you fail to mention is that almost all sacrifices were voluntary. You shouldn't commenting on something you know nothing about. Especially since your obviously a bigot.

The Aztec are my favorite ancient culture. But, i hate when people consyantly mistake them with the Maya. They are two totally different cultures, in different regions and climates of Mexico. the only similarities is that they both built pyramids. the Aztec are actually closer in culture and language to South Western Native Americans.
