this show was great because it had real elements on it!, there are many things that actually happens to real medics, EMT'S , firefighters this episode reminded me my self, when i suffered "burn out" syndrome, like this character, myself and many medics believe and love in what we do , but we don't realize it could be destructive....so far i have seem a few fellow medics committed suicide as a result of the pressure of this activity where you can see the best and the very worst of human society
I was so upset that Doc did this he was such a cool guy I'm litraly on the last episode im watching it on TV as I type. Carlos is asking Doc at the hospital for advise. I cant believe it ended.
They don't make series like this anymore, shame. 3rd Watch was the best ever to hit the TV, but it was good that it ended while it was at the top. Better to burn out then fade away. A lot of tragedy in this show as well, a lot. Lost count of how many times i've shed a tear to this show. Bobbys death, Alex death, Sully's constant bad luck, Bosco's fate... the list goes on.
can anyone tell me what happened after doc got shot? i feel like im missing an episode . what happened after, did they catch the drug dealers or what?
I don't think this was his last appearance on Third Watch. I believe he came back once more in the sixth season.
Doc was an interesting character towards the end of his run on the show. In the beginning though, he was so incredibly moral and self righteous that he was hard to watch. Once he started to be more real and human and show weakness, he became a much better character.
im so glad so many others have a passion for this show like i do. i still watch the reruns on the a and e channel. my hope was that faith and fred would reconnect but i guess not. on the last episode they showed that she was dating the police capt. seemed like a better fit. never saw the episode where alex died. Love this show.
Im in the Dep with the Marines and every time i watch this i cry or tear up. I was watching it before and they seen my crying lol. I still get made fun of haha. Doc was my fav.
He started to change when Alex Taylor, a firefigter which he really liked and which he worked, died. He felt responisble for her death. But the real problem was that Doc - like a lot of NYC cops, firefighters and EMTs - never really came to terms with what happened on 9/11.
True, very true. Plus a bunch of other things were building up inside him. His ex Dr. Moralez turned down his marraige (typo) proposal, she got married to someone else, they even had a kid together. And this "grimreaper" came in and started making changes to the NYFD. But the thing that did stand out was Tylor's death.....that was really brutal, I couldn't believe it when I saw that scene on that episode. This was and still is a great show. I don't know why they stop the DVD release.
@YourCruz That and the city was shutting down firehouses, and they had just transferred a captain who had been transferred to other firehouses that were then shut soon after the guys arrival. So Doc was afraid that the 55 firehouse was going to be closed, which would have drove up FDNY response time as he stated in episodes before his last stand
he had a troubled and trafic life, his wife died, he had to help his father commit suicied because he lost faith in life and had nothing else to move on, his best friend was shot and had to leave his job next to him, and after trying so hard to help people since season 1( you gotta watch the whole serie to this point to understand how powerful this scene really was) he saw he couldn't change the world, that some people he fought so hard to help just didn't wanted to be helped or saved...
i never saw this one before, but wasnt monroe his wife or something? i dont remember seeing her at all and i feel bad how doc went nuts because of the issue that went on.
no. Monroe was a officer he had recently met while on the scene and I guess he choose her to be the one to have sex with and get her gun. They were attracted to each other but where never in a relationship.
This has to be one of the most powerful episodes of tv I have watched, and I hated Michale wanted to leave but they sure wrote one heck of an exit for him.
what made Doc snap was Alex's death, then 9/11, and then the new l.t that had the rep of closing down fire houses because he was always stationed had fire houses that the city closed after 9/11
Actually the episode where Kim was with Bobby fighting over their kid. The judge was fawning over Bobby in his uniform because of 9/11. He ignored Kim's contribution as an EMT, which was really uncalled for in my opinion.
This is one of the most amazing five minutes of television in the last twenty years. The producers and writers took years building up to this. I could never figure out why Doc was becoming such an a**hole over the last couple of seasons....then when this episode happened it was all clear.
For the fireman and police there were fundraisers, parades, CISD...but the Paramedics and EMTs got left out. It all comes out in this episode where Doc loses it. I cried for an hour.
he sorta went crazy when the captin kicked them out of the firehouse, he shot him to show him they need to be there. he was arrested and put into a mental hospital
what is wrong with doc.? why is he like this..i never saw this befor...????? iv seen the show b4 i have the first season and iv seen random eps from other seasons but yeah..please someone tell me..!

He shot capitan Stepper, a new boss of firefighters in 55, who wanted to close fire house for paramedics. Doc went mad and stole Monroe's gun.
