1. Yes I am well aware that I should be using a phono pre-amp. The purpose of the test was just to prove that the item was fully functional, not to exhibit it's sound quality.
2. Are you sure about the tubes? All 4 slots say 6N3 below the ports. Also, this website shows a DARED MP-15 running my exact configuration.
I own this amp - glorious piece to be honest. However, a couple of things...
1) the preamp section of this amp is designed for one 12AX7 and one 12AU7 tube per channel. The 6N3 tubes referred to in the video are not designed for use in this amp...
2) as mentioned below, the unit does not contain a phono preamp stage (please google RIAA equalization), so you CANNOT directly connect it to a record player a
This is why the music in this video sounds horrid - its not your speakers...
