  • Hey i have a 2002 Subaru WRX and when im driving and the engine is under load the heat works but when i'm stopped or at idle it drops down to cold. I have about 83k on the car and just had a clutch and timing belt done and after that it hasnt been working right, what do you think is wrong because my engine temp gauge is ok but it looks cold for a while then shoots up to regular temp (just under the halfway mark) What do you think is wrong?

  • @HDxCasTpeR change the thermostat and make sure the cooling system has no air in it when done. then pray the heater core isnt' clogging up.

  • I have 98 town car, and bought it used before winter. Never thought to check the heater and now I see that one of those two hoses was cut off and removed. What's going on with this car?

  • @altpath I would assume the heater core was leaking, so they did that to stop it. connect it, then see if coolant leaks inside the dash. If so, time for a NEW very expensive heater core job on that crazy design, the book calls for almost 8 hours labor.

  • @scottykilmer sounds like I'm just going to have to tough it out without the heater, lol.

  • Scotty on a 2002 nissan quest heat was working fine, but i notice when ideling or stop no heat, but when driving heat comes back,is it a core or thermo.

  • hi scotty, awsome channel learning a lot. my wife has a mazda cx7 2010 only 23k miles. i have kind of the opposite problem. the heat works well, however, yesterday the car starting burning a little rubber or plastic when on high setting. with the heat off or @ mid setting there is no problem. i looked under the hood and found no fluid leaks and the belt is in fine working order. additionally i have no warning lights. the car in running @ proper temp levels too. what might this be? thanks

  • @alanopolis1 generally either the blower motor is burning out, Or the blower motor resistor is.

  • how to check heater controls on a 99 chrysler 300m

  • @james1321able pay a mechanic like myself. We use dealer level scan tools to analyze those over engineered computer controlled heater systems on chrysler products. No other way to do it really.

  • @scottykilmer When it is really cold outside, the car heater will blow hot (once warmed up) only if my foot is on the gas pedal. Once off, it slowly starts to fade to a slightly warm temperature. But once I start to drive, it gets hot again! Engine coolant isn't low. Thanks!

  • @googie109 a clogged heater core often does that, try flushing it first, they cost a ton to replace.

  • thx..its 96 firebird how do i do it sir ..?

  • @18kswag watch my video "fixing vacuum leaks with a cigar" and try that, or run the car and listen for sucking noise, that's where the leaking vacuum hose would be.

  • hey bud my heater dose not blow air on face only for defroster up on front window plz help

  • @18kswag you're stuck on default position, check for a vacuum leaks on the system if an older car. If newer, the dash needs taking apart to fix the blend door system.

  • my 1992 lexus sc300 gets no heat i changed the radiator put a new thermostat my switch even works what do u think i should do?

  • @drewsaffordable120 flush the heater core out next, and PRAY it's not electronic control problems inside that very complex computer controlle dash system.

  • Also, is there a vent door that opens up when heater is switched on under dash that might have got stuck?And/or does the full level of coolant when i open radiator cap say that fluid is reaching my heater core or does the resevoir tank (located by below area of my battery ) have more indicating factors of fluid to reach to core? It is an inch or two below line in resevoir tank

  • @ssl668 generally the cores need replacing when that crapped out. But, of course, check to see if the cooling system has no air in it, we mechanics use vacuum systems to suck all the air out and know there's none left in.

  • @scottykilmer Thanks for that solution for possible problem i might have.. I bought new thermostat again ,tested and it popped open in boiling pan water.Ok, that seems ok. Now i am going to flush core also and use CLR detergent( heat up solution to almost boiling ) And pour into outlet hose of core, let sit for 1 hour,. And see what comes out.. And after all that is done i keeping in mind that air is in line as you mentioned, even though levels seem ok,This could be 1 of multiple problems i got

  • I have a 2007 dodge caravan, I flushed all coolant, plus did a core flush with CLR . Some brown water come out of core intake hose with sand. Also notice now both hoses are hot when engine is a operate temp. With a new thermostat also installed. My temp. dial guage on dash goes almost to center, but on the cool side.Could the core still be clogged partially or can the new thermostat be faulty? I reached inside by heater core cover under dash and alot of heat was there, but,no heat coming from vent.

  • Ok so I am back. I flushed it with a Preston kit. I also did a Preston super flush solution. I changed my fuses, I changed the thermostat. New antifreeze and still no heat. The fan is blowing, I am only getting cold air. I didnt have anything other than antifreeze drain when I flushed it, and it was the normal color. What else could it be? 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis.

  • @godgotme22 bad blend doors are common on all fords, requiring taking the dash apart. IF both of your heater hoses going into the firewall are hot, that's probably it unfortunately.

  • my fan works but no hot air, what is the cause of this?

  • @chaunceybackus25 try everything in this video to fix it.

  • I do like your videos a lot. But one case that you haven't mentioned is one where the heater core is higher than the rest of the system and has to be bled separately. One such case is in the Citroen ZX, where a header tank (soda bottle with the bottom cut off) has to be mounted on the radiator so there's flow to push the air bubbles out.

Had to change one of those heater cores this year. Taking the dash apart took me over 3 hours, just to replace a 25€ core. DIY rocks.

  • I was looking at your video, I never tried the hose idea I may give that a go.

  • You may have already covered this in the video but, in my 97 olds 88 I noticed that it doesn't get very warm in the car anymore. I thought first that the control might not be working so I turned it all the way down and it got cold then as I turned it up it gradually got warmer but it never got hot. Then I noticed the temp gauge was low (around 150 F). At the time it was 9 degrees outside. Now I've got a piece of cardboard covering part of the radiator and it seems to be working well.

  • @gjlannet put a new thermostat in too

  • This guy is cool

  • Hi Scotty, I have a 93 Chrysler 3.8L that has a auto temp control. The A/C works great, but in the colder months I can set the temperature to 75 or higher, the air is somewhat warm but not warm enough to reach the desired interior temperature. If I set the temp to 80 degrees (which is max) it blows plenty of hot air. The temp gauge is in the norm operating range, so am I looking at a bad thermostat? Thanks!

  • @Funskier67 Automatic temperature control (the sort where you actually set X degrees) relies on temperature sensors inside the car monitoring the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. When set to max, all of the air comes through the core. In intermediate temperatures the system has to check sensors information to regulate the mixing of cold and heated air.

  • my heat used to be really good, but now it's not as hot as it used to be. I'm thinking it's possible the control valve is jammed, because some times when I push it on full heat, it pops back a few notches towards cold. do you know where the control is on a 91 s10?

  • @Vacmasterthegreat try under the hood by the firewall, it could be sticking

  • ;56 -of the vid. great point

  • Ok one last question sir, so can I flush it out or do I need to buy a new one...what do I do? One man said he would charge me 1000 to fix it

  • @godgotme22 try flushing it as I show in this video. Scotty

  • First I really appreicate you videos...I have 2005 mercury grand marquis, my heater is blowing out cold air only. I changed the thermostat, both water pumps are warm, the dealership says its my heater control valve, but when i took it to another place to get it fixed they couldnt find the valve and then said that I dont have one...so my question is, does the 2005 have a heater control valve? and what should I do next? Thanks in advance

  • @godgotme22 no, it doesn't, it has a blend door inside the dash that lets hot air get into the cabin. The heater core always has hot water flowing inside in that design. Scotty

  • Hello (scottykilmer) ! I want you to know that your videos help me a lot with my cars... Thank you!

  • @scottykilmer I was screwing the nut in back in the housing but I over torqued it, and the nut stud that holds the housing together broke, I only have one nut holding the thermostat housing together. I also have the same exact Celica as you, do you know if its possible to replace the nut stud? Thanks in advance Scotty!

  • @MrJDMReviewers drill it out and put new nut and bolt on, only way to fix it.

  • @scottykilmer thanks!

  • Thanks Mr. John Lennon nice post.

  • hey thanks for posting. But I have a 02 dodge durango Sometimes my heat comes on and blow and sometime it dont. But my cool air always work. Do you know what I need to do. O and my lighter charger dont work in the front and just recently the one in the arm rest stop working. can you tell me what I might can do. thanks again.

  • @diva11111111 heaters on those are electronically controlled, and that breaks down in dodges all the time, costing a fortune to tear the dash down. check the fuse first for the lighter, then change the lighter assembly if that's not it. Scotty

  • What do i for my 2005 Nissan Altima? The heat only works when the engine has been running warm. When i come to a stop light or park the car, the warm air goes away and it gets very cold unless i accelerate the gas. I've read that there is nothing i can do with this model car and that it's a common issue.

  • @MasChingon325 often a clogged heater core, try flushing it. But if that doesn't work, live with it. Scotty

  • ... It's like getting rob here in Alberta every time you go to auto shop. But if you have anymore tricks I can do... Please and thank you...

  • Hi there Scotty.. Last time I told you that my heat went working and then didn't again after couple of days.. The next day again it worked. Like awesome hot! Perfect for Alberta weather of - 23. But now It stopped working again. When I drive it works tho. But this time I can hear bubbling sound when I rev while park and sometimes when I drive and rev. Getting a little frustrated here. As much as I want to save money, do you think it's time to get professional look at it? Oh boy it's like gettin

  • Cut a hole in the firewall with a sawsall, got great heat now, thanks for all your tips Scotty.

  • 1997 2.3L Ford ranger, heater blows cold, blower motor works, coolant is full, flushed the heater core both ways, water flows normally both ways, changed the heater control valve under the hood and the engine runs a normal temp. Trying not to spend hundreds at a shop. One shop said it would be $100 bucks to diagnose and possibly hundreds more to fix. Are you Fn kidding? Please help

  • Hello there again... I did all the things you showed on the video and I thought i fix my heating problem. It worked for couple of days but then it's not working again. I need your insights on this... Why my heat not working again??? Please and thank you.

  • @julio231979 start over again, perhaps flushing it 3 or 4 times if it's still got crap inside it. Scotty

  • Hello, i have this same problem... I've changed the thermostat, flushed & filled the coolant, checked my heater control valve and the one in the cab thats on the heater assembly, and both lines on the heater core are hot as normal conditions would suggest. yet still no heat. my engine temperatures are within specs. the only thing i can think of left ist that debris is blocking flow of air through the heater core. what do you think?

  • @MrShuaTube And ive replaced my climate control unit

  • @MrShuaTube depends on the car. Fords, for example, break the blend doors inside the dash, so hot air stays inside the heater box and doesn't blow on you. Many cars break like this comonly. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer im driving a 1987 toyota pickup, and its actuated by cable, and when i move it manually without the cable attached i can hear it opening and closing. i appretiate you quick response. :)

  • @MrShuaTube then flush the crap out of it , forwards and backwards by removing the hoses at the firewall and housing it both ways. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer did that with air and water, the lines are getting hot, but nothing through to the cab. could it be that there is debris over the core, not allowing much air to pass through the core, rather than around it?

  • @MrShuaTube no, often the cores are just shot and flushing em can't fix em, they'd need replacing. Scotty

  • Dude!! I think I did it!!! I have better heat now!!! Thanks for your video!!! Cheers!!! Mabuhay!!!

  • Hi there, i was wondering if you can help me with my situation. I've change my thermostat and filled up anti freeze but still no heat in my car. Maybe it's the heater core. I'm planning to do the last trick you showed on this video but I don't know where to start. I have a Honda civic 1999 sedan. Where are the hoses I can do the unclogging?

  • @julio231979 they go into the firewall to the heater, two of them close together. Ifyou can't figure it out, any auto parts store guy can show you if you drive there. Scotty

  • I was told by a mechanic that my vertical heat rod is broken for the heater core?? I watched your video here and checked my control cable and rod and they are both working. Is it possible that my heater control valve is broken internally? Heater blows slightly warm air.

  • @nanchezthe2nd could be, but I'd try flushing it out first as I show in the video. Scotty

  • I removed both heater hoses and flushed w/ garden hose and it works 2 min after starting the car there's hot air blowing in thanks man peace free is 4 me

  • I think I have a coolant issue, thanks Mr. Kilmer

  • @KDF54321 then watch my video "How to fix an overheating car" Scotty

  • Scotty. First let me say i LOVE your videos. You are awesome and help more people than you know. I have a 1995 Kia Sephia. Blows cold air only. Temp runs normal and coolant is new and full. I looked under my hood for a dial that can be moved with a cable like the video, but do not see any. Any help or ideas as to what I might need to do? Thanks.

  • @smorrow0816 it's all computerized heat control on that baby. and all inside the dash. time to take it apart, of wear a jacket and gloves. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Scotty, I am ready to do this. I ran the engine and the two tubes that went into the inside of the car...one was very warm and the other was cool. Does that mean I need to replace the heater core? Is it as simple as removing the dash and swapping out the part? Any references you can share or places to buy the part would be great. thanks.

  • @smorrow0816 yea, time for a new heater core. a pain taking em out though, I'd advise getting a cheap manual with directions if you never did one. 'scotty

  • Hey Scotty..I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Diamante and the heat blows very hot air even if its turned off. If I turn it on sometimes it takes 20-40 minutes before it starts blowing. If I switch it to cool, it still blows hot air. It cuts on and off by itself. I need help please!!!

  • @reddsofine1 You have a control unit problem, and those things are complex in MITS, everything is electronic. Many guys will just bypass all that crap by putting in a manual valve for heat that they can open and close by hand when opening the hood on old things like that. Scotty

  • Scotty, I don't have a temperature gauge in my LeBaron, but the engine light never comes on so I assume my thermostat is fine. Coolant is full. Blower works fine. Let me ask you this........BOTH hoses going to the heater core are hot,so as you stated, if one is hot and the other noticeably cooler the HC is clogged, but if both are hot, does that mean the HC is bad? I just want to know if it's working or not. Is there any surefire way to tell before I tear the dash apart to get to it?

  • but scotty, peak IS the wrong kind

  • @the411vm NOPE, they sell a universal coolant that fits most cars. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Nice thank you I'll do it my self on my 99 Chevy suburban

  • Can you show how to change a head gasket on most 4 cylinders or something?

  • @lilblueguy that's a big giant job, not really a do it yourself job cause the head has to be checked for cracks and warpage by a machine shop anyway. And you need tons of expensive tools, like good torque wrenches, and years of experience to do it without messing something up. engine tolerances are VERY tight. Scotty

  • I love your enthusiasm lol, Ima check all of these problems today! thank you!

  • thanks

  • scotty after the flush wont their be air left inside the system or when the engine gets hot the air will come out

  • @hp11208 the air will come out with driving. Scotty

  • hey scotty would a heater tap been faulty causes the same issues if i got a new one can that help get hotter temp inside?as i have done therostat, gaskets, radiator flush,etc.....suspect heater tap may not be opening fully can that cause it????cheers

  • @fastvpbt1 Yes, they often stick and need replacing. Scotty

  • 1962 Ford Galaxie blower motor..... thats all I have to say. It is not blowing lol. Wipers arent moving either.

  • @woodlandcammo27 Electrical problems on an old Ford, that's not surprising. Start by checking all the fuses and running power to the wiper motor and blower. If they work with power, find where the short in the wiring it. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Thanks for the reply. I had no power off my ignition that goes into the fuse block that contains 4 fuses. Found the wire laying on some others and hooed it up. Now have wipers, signals but no heater. I will investigate further before winter comes.

  • Hey Scotty I watched this after I just sent you that mesage about not getting heat in the cabin until the car is really warm. The temperature gauge does go up and down but while driving at freeway speeds it goes really down and at idle and park it goes to normal and heat can go into the cabin again. I don't know what gives. I'll give a second look at the coolant level tomorrow and the HCV tomorrow too but I believe they are good as I still have coolant in the reservoir tank.

  • i have a question. What can the problem be if my 1995 honda civic ex leaks coolants under glove department. coolants gets all over my passenger front floor mats. can this be the heater core or just a hose. and is it ok to drive my car without turning on heater because it only leaks when i turn on heater. i think. thankyou

  • hey, my grandpa has an 87 celica, it runs at normal operating temps, but the heat is intermittent. It'll have hot air randomly for about 20 seconds, then it goes back to cold. What could that be? i havent taken a very close look at it yet, but do you have some tips for what i should check for?

  • this is GREAT because i have a toyota camry and everything will be in the same places you showed in the video! thank you, thank you, thank you! and.....i had to watch that ending where you popped out of the back of the pickup about five times. hahaha

  • this is GREAT because i have a toyota camry and everything will be in the same places you showed in the video! thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • Hey Scotty,

Well, after, ......to be honest.... AVOIDING this 'no heater' issue for a year, I decided to flush the core. It was spotless..... after a lil investigating, it turned out, that under the dash, the box under the core, ...the lever was moving but the cable was bound, so I forced the doors open manually...VOILA, heat enough to burn the hair off my legs! lol.

Thanks for responding, just thought I'd throw it out there, .....follow the lever cable, guys, make sure it's opening! lol.

  • hey scotty i have a 94 oldsmobile 88 royale LSS and the heat works but it will only blow out the defrost/floor no madder what i set it to..what do you think my problem is? and it happened all of a sudden

  • hey scotty i own a lincoln navigator 2002 and when i turn on the heat a rotten smeel starts to come out what can i do?

  • hey scotty,i have a peugeot 406 2003.when i turn the button te warm up but after 10min that stop blowing warm air inside my car.what can be the problem?please i need your help.

  • @dosteddaram Hey, it's a French car, that's the problem. they stopped selling them decades ago here in the states. But all heaters work the same way, try everything in my video here and PRAY it's not a computer electronic problem. Soctty

  • @scottykilmer tnx for nice info.

  • those vacuum operated valves on 30 yr old relics like i drive are the worst, it is hard to tell when those go out, so, i remove them and get a blast-furnace for a heater in the winter.

  • scotty what do u recommend for sealing A/C leaks? i was gonna recharge my A/C and i wanted to run a leak thing through it first will Steel Seal work?

  • @Matthew55904 NO, nothing really works on Ac leaks, the pressure is too high. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer so what do i do then?

  • My dad tought me this old trick and it may work here. My dad poured drain cleaner in one end of core and let it sit for an hour. Then he flushed and whole lot of crud came out. Also if you change coolant every two or no more then three years you will never have a plugged core even if you have to use a product called steel seal

  • @Olddog231 Yes, that can work, but it can also eat out an old rotten heater core, and man, are they expensive to replace in most cars. Scotty

  • you need to mention that you have to flush it backwards from the way the antifreeze flows. If one line is hot and the other cold then the hot one is flow in and cold one is flow out, you need to hook the hose to the cold line or you won't be helping anything.

  • @rthom86 I talk about flushing it both ways, forwards and backwards. You really need to do both. Scotty

  • You are not crazy right?

lol, All mechanics I have meet are nuts.. including me.....

  • Hey Scotty, great energy you got, bud! Rebuilt my 22re, ...heck, pretty much new everything under the hood, ...but before and since the build... NOTHING but warm air, never hot. Both hoses seem to get hot, going to/coming from the core.... but no HOT heat, lol. I have a 91 HCvalve to put in, to replace that stock junk.. but I'm worried my cables are tweeked, as it's REALLY hard to push the levers. However, when I manually move the control vlv. lever, the cab lever goes either direction.Thoughts?

  • @imachefmang I've used coat hangers hooked up under the dash to open and close em IF the valves aren't worn out and stuck. Scotty

  • MY Heater only throws air cold in all the pocisiones… THAT CAN BE

  • DUDE!!! Thank you so much!! 15 minutes and my wifes heater in her Buick Century works once more! You ROCK!!

  • scotty my car dont seem to defrost that good the inside of my car fogs up and every winter morning i have to scrap off ice on my windsheild and side windows from the inside any idea what is doing this or how to fix it?

  • @Matthew55904 If the air is hot, then the AC part isn't working (it mixes heat and AC to keep fog off.) Scotty

  • @scottykilmer the air always starts off cold until the engine warms up not something that helps me so i usually drive with my windows down and sit there and rev it for a few minutes before i take off to warm the engine

  • Hey scotty, some of my car vents does through hot air but the others do not. Can you help me? thankz

  • @chagOwwuUUu You have a problem with the blend door system, door levers are broken or stuck. You'll have to take the door apart. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer

    hi scotty!!

i have a 03 nissan altima, and my heater does not work well,it takes a while to warm up, at least after 30 minutes of driving! ...but the engine warms up in 5 minutes and works at normal temperature.

    can you help me please???

  • @scottykilmer

    hi scotty!!

i have a 03 nissan altima, and my heater does not work well,it takes a while to warm up, at least after 30 minutes of driving! ...but the engine warms up in 5 minutes and works at normal temperature. the coolant level its good..

    can you help me please???

  • @chagOwwuUUu Your vent system is breaking down. Unfortunately you'd have to take the whole dash apart and find what blend doors arent' opening correctly. Scotty

  • lol the lip syncing at the end was epic!!

    Great little vid sir !!

  • I'm having the same issue in my 95 accord, the heat is there but not toasty warm to my face when driving. Unlike my old accord which had 212,xxx miles on the heat was HOT on dial setting 1.

Anyway this current accord the heat is faint and I like HOT heat even at the lowest setting, with that said I think it is clogged.

  • @kidcool1977 Yep, try flushing the core out first. Scotty

  • Good stuff Scotty! My car is having problem with over-heating and I hear boiling sound from my car (anti-freeze coolant boils) but on the other hand heater gives COLD air.

I changed thermostat and after few months same problem...What can be the real problem.

  • @MrBj2020 An overheating car can be caused by tons of things, and when they overheat, they lose coolant and the heater core will be empty and not create heat. Watch my other video, "how to fix an overheating engine" Good Luck

  • thank man that was realy helpful...!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting good sir.

  • Ok I have a 99 malibu and my heat or air don't wrk.this mechanic guy look at my car n said I have a bad blower(I guess) do u think its the blower or one of the things u said in ur video above

  • @jaequon Blower motors are easy to replace, you can get a rebuilt motor cheap enough from a discount auto parts store. Scotty

  • thsnks scotty..idk alot about cars but ima try to do it myself so i wont pay $800 to the mechanics ..i like ur vids tho

  • scotty...i have a 2001 jeep cherokee sport.....the heat and ac do not work but air does pass through the vents...i think its the blend doors.....can i fix it through the glove compt. like heater treater for grand cherokees?

  • help scotty!! its getting cool and my wifes 99 ford eddie bauer expedition ..the heat is just blowing cool air.. i dont know where to find the heater control valve or the upper and lower heater hose in the 99 expedition..i just flushed the radiator and added new coolant...the engine is not over heating at all tho..can you please help????? before my wife falls inlove wit the mechanic at autozone

  • @alproductionz08 On those expeditions, 99 percent of the time it's a bad blend door inside the dash, up to an 800 dollar job to fix with a mechanic. There is no heater control valve on yours, hot water always flows through the heater core. Only the blend door opening and closing inside the dash gives you heat or takes it away. There's not much working room inside there. Good Luck, Scotty

  • hi scotty, i need help. well my boyfriend drive a FORD truck and his heater hasn't been working for the past three years. We don't know what went wrong. We have to turn it on for 2 to 3 hours to get a LITTLE WARM BREEZE, it would not get HOT even when we put it on full blast...what you think is wrong?...thank you.

  • @sReychaRm Either the heater core is clogged and needs cleaning out or replacing, or the blend door is stuck and won't fully open. Try flushing it out first, the other two options are VERY expensive. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer

Thank you Scotty, just trying to get it done before christmas it's going to be one of his CHRISTMAS present from me. Yes, im on very low on cash but hopefully with the amount of money i have and the information you give me ,will give him a wonderful working heater on christmas morning to work!!!...Thank you agian.

  • Hi Scotty...i have a vw gti...the heater is not working...i just replaced the thermostat valve and i flushed all the anti freeze and put new one on...it still does not have heater...ucan u help me?

  • @Simileministry Those damn things are all computer controlled. Try everything in this video of course, but it may be a computer control and no way you can fix that outside a good VW mechanic with very expensive scan tools. That's how VWs are these days, not do it yourself repair cars to say the least. Scotty

  • Scotty, I have a 91 Honda accord. The heater only works while the car is moving but when i stop, it stops working. can you tell me what's wrong?

  • @leti729 Odds are you are low on coolant, OR the heater core is clogged. Scotty

  • HI SCOTTY,when i turn on my car heat,I start seeing white smoke and I smell antifreeze,do i need a new heater core or a new hose??

  • @naimfree83 Heater core, as they often get holes and do that. If it was the hose, it would be leaking all the time, whether you turned the heater on or not. Scotty

  • HI SCOTTY,when i turn on my car heat,I start seeing white smoke and I smell antifreeze,do i need a new heater core or a new hose??

  • Scotty we have a Chrysler 300 with heat working sometimes but mostly blowing out cool air especially on passenger side. We paid mechanic to replace water pump and thermostat but these did not solve the problem we are out big bucks here. Also where on the 300 is the "Blend door" that you mention, as this is worth a try

  • @SingTheSorrow971 the blend door is inside the dash, a real COW to access. I would advise paying a mechanic who knows his stuff to analyze it with his fancy computer which can operate the blend doors and test them first. Scotty

  • @SingTheSorrow971

Thanks so much for your prompt reply the thoughts of giving this guy more money after what we shelled out to have the water pump and theremostat replaced (which obviously were not the cause of heating problem) is making me sick. But we really need to have heat in this car especially with our 6yr. old that is immune compromised. Guess we got screwed over on this one and need to look for a better mechanic.!!

  • Hi Scotty where is the heater control valve located on a 98 cherokee?

  • @rudeboy8787 In the engine compartment on the passenger side near the firewall. Scotty

  • COLD AIR ONLY coolant is good and hoses going 2 heater core are hot and it has a new thermostat the control valve also works what could it be?

  • @aztecking610 Bad blend doors are the most common problem for that. Scotty

  • Thanks scotty :)

  • Thanks alot, My car just have heater problem now. Thanks for the tips

  • scotty it snowed here today and when i put on my deforster i let the car warm up but the windows still fooged up full blast full defrost and even the windows rolled down the windshield was still so fogged up i could barely see out of it any idea what the problem is?

  • Wouldnt it be better to flush a heater core backwards?

Logically it should be easyer too blow the crud out the way it came in than ttoo try to force it all the way trougth, after all, the engines waterpump have already failed at that task ;o)

  • @Lochmodor You flush them BOTH ways as I show. first forwards, and then backwards. Scotty

  • scottykilmer i have the same problem i did the same like you but for me doesnt work what i can do?

  • skottykilmer thank you you're the best

  • i am havin problens i have a 95 chevy monte carlo n it leak coolent underneath my car when eva i drive it and stop and when i get out i got coolent like just dripin like crazy n plus when i turn my heat r air on i hear a leaf blower noise everytime but wont do it when its not on when i aint runnin my heat r air plz tell me whats wrong some one

  • @babigurl2131 You have a worn blower motor or stuff like leaves stuck in it making that noise. The leak would be something else, often a leaking water pump. Have the system pressure tested to find where the leak is. Scotty

  • Thanks Scotty! After I watched this video I was able to change my car's thermostat and heater controller valve now everything is working perfect.

  • Scotty got the defrosters working panel wasnt in right. i see the thermostat for my cavalier is set for a 180 opening temperature . autozone sells a 160 failsafe with the locking pins for if the engine reaches over 250 it will lock in the open positon. can i use this thermostat in my car an still have beautiful heat?

  • @zztopgearhead1 You would still get plenty of heat. Just put your hand in 160 degree water and see how hot that is. Scotty

  • scotty, i have the new heater core hooked up with all new parts, thermostat heater hoses new coolant. i am only getting hot heat on the floor, i am getting nothing on the top vents or defrosters. what went wrong

  • @zztopgearhead1 Your in dash vent controls aren't working. A blend door isn't opening correctly to change where the air blows. This can be a control unit problem, a wiring problem, or a stuck blend door. Not a fun fix as most systems are now computer controlled. Good Luck, Scotty
