If more Christians relied solely on prayer instead of modern medicine, the world population and religion problems would practically work themselves out.
@nicomell1 You wrote: "Stalin's actions were not motivated by religion (or lack thereof), or economic ideology, but purely through selfish greed for material wealth and power." I think you may have a point that Stain's actions were to a great extent motivated by greed and material wealth and power, and the atheism a component sure didn't hurt either. Destroying the source of objective morality, religion, who could then argue what Stalin was doing was wrong?
@nicomell1 you wrote:Neither North Korea (Communist) nor Cuba (Communist) is an atheistic country. Really, so why is it these two countries are known to persecute (kill) Christians and others practicing non-approved religions?
@nicomell1 Regarding Christian communism: Yes, you are correct this type of communal living arrangement existed and may exist today. An example of course can read about in the book of Acts. In contrast to the Stalinist Marxist regimes, these religious communities were based on voluntary participation of sharing and were small compared to the secular Marxist Communist regimes of Stain, Mao Zedong and Kim Jung Ill. The regimes that left a history millions murdered were based on force not love.
Even if the death of Jesus meant God no longer wanted people to kill their children for various reasons, wouldn't it still bother people that he once did? What modern Christians find disturbing was once sanctioned by God, shouldn't they take that up with him?
Shayrah, I feel compelled to respond to this, I have in fact done so, but the result is rather more than the 500 characters allowed in this space, and I don't yet have a web cam to produce a video reply with.
If you are so inclined, feel free to read my entire response on my blog at :
"But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me." Luke 19:27 Some god of peace.
@goldeyeblue The regimes of Mao Zedong, Stalin and Kim Jung Il all had atheism as common theme and enforced atheism as the accepted state world view. These regimes viewed religions including the Christian religion as a threat to their power and thus were hostile to religions. The Soviet Gulags under Stalin after WWII were quite oppressive to people who practiced their respective faith traditions.
@astr0al3x Stalin's actions were not motivated by religion (or lack thereof), or economic ideology, but purely through selfish greed for material wealth and power. Just as the rest were. Neither North Korea (Communist) nor Cuba (Communist) is an atheistic country. So, any notion that "Atheism" somehow goes hand and hand with communism or is key to it's existence and growth, is fundamentally and historically inaccurate.
@goldeyeblue@goldeyeblue I find the timing of your criticisms about the Christian religion on Christmas Day curious. I don't know if I've ever run across a Christian who defends the killings of abortion doctors for that matter.
@goldeyeblue As far as a crime, "sheerly from the virtue of their no belief." I would respond with Stalin, Mao Zedong, and Kim Jung Ill. I would assert the millions slaughtered under these brutal communist and statist regimes happened because of atheism. If Hitler was a Christian, why did his regime regard Dietrich Bonhoeffer as a threat? Why was the Barman Declaration written? Hitler like many politicans, often wear labels, Christian or something else, for political purposes.
@astr0al3x "If Hitler was a Christian, why did his regime regard Dietrich Bonhoeffer as a threat?
Because Bonhoeffer was a Protestant and supported "Judenmission"--the evangelization, conversion, and baptism of Jews. But the "Deutsche Christen" were already claiming the Jews as a “separate race,” hence they could not become members of an “Aryan” German church even through baptism. This was nothing more than politics and hatred for the Jews/discrimination of Jews. Not atheism!!
I like how you don't fight theists, just let your arguments stand, and let them spout their ignorance. I prefer fighting stupidity myself, but an interesting divergence.
@Moh5Itachi1 In response to "If you somehow found a way to not have to follow verses like these then good for you, because the world would suck if ppl obeyed it."
Are you asserting that a person perhaps a person who considers him or herself to be a modern day Jew, Muslim, or Christian is somehow required to follow this verse from Exodus 21:20-21?
@Shayrah In regards to you comment on Westboro "follows the rules of their religion to a T"
Is your opinion that there is only one true interpretation of the Bible and Westboro Baptist Church has it? If so, I would be interested to know how you reached that conclusion. As far as rules of the Old testament and how they should be interpreted, isn't that one of the central
topics that the writers of the books contained within the Bible attempt to address? Best regards-
@astr0al3x When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
There aren't a million different ways to interpret this it's pretty self explanatory. If you somehow found a way to not have to follow verses like these then good for you, because the world would suck if ppl obeyed it.
@Shayrah Regarding prooftexting- Not okay in my opinion -I don't care who's doing it-It's Christian or non-Christian- It's lazy IMHO. Fundamentalism is belief system followed by some Christians, not all. I suspect that there are many who would identify themselves as Fundamentalist Christians would denounce Westboro Baptist biblical interpretation. Perhaps you would prefer the statistical term "outlier" to "extreme"? Thanks for responding.
According to your arguement, you seem okay with using Westboro Baptist Church as proper model to define true Christianity. Using the fringe extreme to define the whole. So is it fair to define all of Islam with the 9/11 attackers view of it? How about using Stalin as a example of true secular humanism ? How about Mao Zedong as another example?,
I was pointing out how they are actually following what the Bible teaches. if that bothers you, you must not be a Bible literalist. Which is fine by me. But this has nothing to do with "extreme" which is a subjective word. This has to do with fundamentalism which is another word for...follows the rules of their religion to a T.
@astr0al3x Ok lets play your game. Mao Zedong and Stalin were not motivated by any atheist views they may of held, but from their corrupt totalitarian rule. However Hitler was a Christian, kill your brother if he worships any other god then Yaweh, or something like that. Nazi belt buckles said God is with Us. Now ask yourself, when has an atheist ever committed a crime, sheerly from the virtue of their no belief. I see no atheists, justifying the killings of abortion doctors.
One thing we can agree on is that you can render a reason. The reason this is so; is so reasonable. That you are a human being; unlike beasts of the field, insects or fishee's or birds of the air, you are endowed with the property of moral reasoning. Moral? yes, moral, you speak of things in terms of right and wrong unlike all other creatures. Now if we had time and space we might reason together of good and bad in terms of Gods perspective. In this we find a holy God reasoning with unholy men.
10:22 This book is the one ,on which the modern civilization was founded.
10:13 People were killed in the name of atheism too, especially when atheists thought that if they will not do something quickly the christians will… blo bla, bla
10:55 I really am (and after some atheists: “'re not arrogant if you're right " )
@VyckRo Nobody was ever killed in the nae of atheism. People have been killed in the na,e of atheist ideologies but those ideologies are like other religions
I guess I'd be killed to.I blaspheme alot and I do it everyday.Actually love blaspheming all gods especially the muslim and christain god.I figure if I'm an atheist I might as well have fun with it and blasphemy for me as an atheist is alot of fun.
The bible, full of murder and things that today are not that big a deal??? And we wonder what's wrong in the world? NOT THAT BIG A DEAL!!! "REALLY?" You think what God did was bad? Have you turned on the news lately? Hiroshima,..no big deal,...Hitler,..no big deal right? What if Hitler hadn't been stopped? Did you ever consider God had to act,..maybe if he hadn't the situation would have been 50xs worse.
To measure your level of testosterone count the number of minutes before you saw Kenny. If you make it through the whole video, you'd better clean off your keyboard when you're done. ;p
The problem which all atheists face is to, in an intelligible, coherent, coalescing not flippant way, explain where "right and wrong" come from. The second you use sarcasm and flippancy you have not only failed to answer the question, you have failed yourself.
seriously, watch any atheistic video and roughly 98% of them use flippancy as an armour against the truth.
@drewdpd1981 What you do describe as flippancy can also be seen a normal way of critique. The girl who made this video did it in a respectful way imo. And God can only be seen as the source of object morality if we do not weigh his actions. The funny thing is, not judging God his actions is a subjective moral decision in itself.
And stating something is the truth without any scrutiny.. Not the way forwards it seems
@drewdpd1981 OK drew, where did right and wrong come from? I don't know. I can't tell you where right and wrong came from because I don't know. That doesn't mean "goddidit," that just means that we don't know the definitive answer at this time, although we do have several hypotheses.
You cannot say that the New Covenant with God doesn't matter because the old one came first, the new covenant is just that and where you are made righteous in God's eyes because of Grace and grace alone, not the law!
So are you suggesting that Christians SHOULD follow the bible in regards to those acts or are you saying that they are hypocrites for not doing these things? Or is it that you simply want to pwn the bible? Christians will tell you that much of the bible is "up to interpretation" and that much in the Old Testament are read as lessons or moral stories and not taken literally - others do take them literally. So is this just placating Atheists or do you have some real point you're trying to make?
@4tabula2rasa0 It's obvious that you created your channel just to troll people. Uploads - 0, Joined - March 2010, last activity - March 2010 and you're a smart-ass in your 20s. Why don't you leave adult conversations up the the adults and run home to your mommy you little prick.
Haha...hit a sore spot did I? You must know I'm right. And WTF does my age matter haha? What the fuck do you care about my activity. I don't troll but I just had to respond to your pointless douchbaggery. It's quite funny when youtube commenting losers like yourself attempt condescension. This girl made a lot of good points in this video and you're talkin shit from a keyboard like the fuckin pussy you are. When you commence with such crap you open yourself to be called out.
@4tabula2rasa0 You haven't called anyone out; you're just farting in the wind. I addressed my comment to Shayrah asking what her major point is for the video and then you come along and call me a douchebag. Then you come back and pretend like your poking around means something. Wow. Since you really have nothing to add to the conversation, there is really no need to attempt to talk with you.
I'd hardly consider your lone rude comment dressed up in condescension a "conversation". I like how you now pretend you weren't being a smarmy prick, ya know, when you asked if there was any "real" point she was making after accusing her of placating atheists. You, sir are the one who made no original points in your comment. Your repetition of what she already covered in the video makes you appear to either have missed the point entirely or have been being a prick....admit it
Humans, mostly men, have long been "speaking for god" and they call it the bible. The old testament reflects a more ancient understanding and consequently a far more primitive image of god. 15 centuries after the Exodus "plagues" suggested as a nasty god sent punishment, we have a new testament "jesus" who claims divinity yet is far more civilized. The passage of time should bring enlightenment. Hence, the old testament scary god and the nice new testament god are images of human awareness.
Your references to God killing children "et al" is out of context. If you insist on reading and interpreting Scripture as a literalist, let people know. However, the major opinion of scriptural scholarship refutes your conclusions. Here is why. The bible is an antropomorphic expression in it's understanding of God and divine activity in the world. E.g. "slay the child" is an ancient level of awareness of "divine" justice, hardly accurate for God however. Just a 1st century primitive insight.
According to the bible Jesus is the son of God, and this &&& talking in this video said they are both one entity 3:02. Jesus was son of god, so not quite so. I am not the same entity as my father,I can think for myself. So that statement is shit and so is this video. That is not to say I am backing theists. I take no sides, I am agnostic. Any debate about deities being real and still existing is still pure speculation due to books, etc. They'll be a debate when there's worthy scientific evidence
Heh... Christianity has an unhealthy way of making 'fear' and 'love' synonymous - at least where it involves God. It's pretty unhealthy to love someone you must fear and vice versa.
Religion short circuits logic, and the idea that beating children (or anyone) to (near) death as punishment is definitely a sign of this, imho.
Congratulations, great video! It's very simple: Everybody who says "god says", "it's god's will" or things like that is a criminal.
Why? It leaves no room for discussion or reasoning or even conversation. It can be used to justify any and all atrocities. The fact that most believers don't use it that way doesn't change its potential to cause harm.
Stifling human conversation is the worst thing you can do, and that's exactly what "gods word" does!
Anyone who genuinely wants to understand why the Mosaic law does not apply to AD times message me, don't believe the lying scripture twisting of the whoremonger who posted this video. She had an unhappy childhood and blames God because of it.
sarcasim at teims is used to diguise lack of knowledge on a given topic, in the american apeist culture undortunatly it can just show lack of education, as in your case.
for example, are you a first or 2nd generation evolved ape? have you eaten your banana today?
may the apples and bananas of your monkey ancestors always surround you
LMAO you have the audacity to say I am uneducated when you can't even write one clear sentence. Try to use capitals, proper spelling and grammar and THEN you can try to insult me on my lack of education. As far as sarcasm showing ignorance, prove it. I have never heard of any study showing this. Peer reviewed, please! Thanks!
you are an American, even with an education many Americans are not what people of the world call educated.
"when you can't even write one clear sentence"
I rest my case
"As far as sarcasm showing ignorance, prove it."
American politics
"Peer reviewed"
Are you saying you do not accept anything as factual or you accept anything as factual if the study had been peer reviewed. this could get to the loolz stage
I requested a peer-reviewed paper on sarcasm being linked to ignorance or stupidity. You failed to provide this source, not surprising. also, your arguments are laughable. My eight-year-old can give better arguments. You FAIL and it is hilarious. BTW teims...not a word diguise....not a word undortunalty...not a fucking word. And I don't even want to know what an apeist is! Learn to use spell check dumb ass before coming in here insulting me.
"requested peer-reviewed paper sarcasm linked to ignorance"
This would either be due to said stupidity or ignorance, many Americans tend to have debating skill of a two year old. unfortunately yourself, you posses that trait.
"My eight-year-old can give better arguments."
Possibly the father is not a close relative of yours, do you have a different father to the child?
A person that believes in the evolution theory and holds tot hat racialist world view. you believe your ancestors were ape like having evolved from fish, whom evolved from a single cell organism that managed to have sex with itself, which would you believe it evolved from a rock, talking to apeists is like showing an Eskimo snow cos hes somehow never noticed it before
may the apples and bananas of your monkey ancestors always surround you
hahaha, you believe you are the decedent of a rock, sharing common ancestors with daffodils, bees, tyranosaurus rex, aids virus, ants and the common cold, a ROCK.
Lets be frank here, you are not an ape, you are a rock.
however, i still have respect for you and call you an Apeist.
Yes, America was based on the concept of secularism, but you know what else it was based on? The concept of small government. Individual responsibility. Personal liberty. And to be honest, I can hardly take Atheists seriously anymore because they lean to the left, and anytime you try to argue with Leftist welfarism, you are accused of being a Tea Partier, not compassionate or a Republican.
Not saying all Atheists do this, but most do, and it contradicts the philosophy of secularism.
@BeastoFrancisco 'Secularism' is neither left nor right wing. It is not affiliated with small government; that small government was an 'intentions' set /along-side/ secularism, does *not* mean the two are related concepts.
So no, it doesn't contradict.
Pat Condell is a very popular atheist on youtube, and he certainly isn't left wing.
Your sense of what constitutes left and right is *Fucked Up*!
Besides, the U.S. left and right parties are so close, those things are just talking points.
I would like to say that while I agree that Christianity is bullshit, I would advise everyone here not to fool themselves into the belief that atheists cannot commit acts of savagery. In fact, most of the slaughter in the 20th century was committed by people with atheist beliefs, such as Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Il Sung, ect.
It's just more proof of how many people are selective bible readers. They'll take the sections of the bible that appeal to them and interpret them the way they want. What is truly scary is that there are people who'll choose to follow the hate and violence filled sections within the bible. Then again, the love thy neighbor parts are few and far between.
I've been talking to my pastor about morality and if god is modest. He gave me a book that said we need to fear god. But I wondered why. And now it makes sense. He hurts us for leaving the flock. Wtf God! I want a helping hand, not an obsessive shepherd.
@LionPebsX I am all for wisdom and instruction.(not the kind of instruction that takes away free thought) But what kind of wisdom do we gain? The wisdom that turning away is a bad idea? The wisdom that questioning is wrong? I ask you what wisdom do we gain?
THANK YOU.. for bringing me the information of the Sabbath being actually Saturday. I will have to definatly do some more reading. There is a guy I work with the trades off all his sundays (Fire Department.. we can trade shifts)... but on Saturday it's perfectly OK to work Overtime... ect, I cannot WAIT to bring this up. Very good ammo for my constant battles,
Lastly, it looks as if you are not willing to budge no matter what evidence is presented to the contrary. It just reminds me of the religious stand on the issue. Close your eyes, stomp your feet, put your hands over your ears so you can hear what the other person is saying, and say "No no no, you're wrong, not true, I can't hear you, I can't hear you!" It just reminds me of that when people say "You are not going to convince me of X." That's all I'm saying. You rule though. Keep it up!
Like I said, I only keep an open mind on something that is provable. The evil verses of the Bible cannot be justified. So I will not budge on that. I obviously can change my mind, it's how I went from being a fundie to an atheist. Now go play in some traffic.
I dig your passion, knowledge, and courage. I'm right there with you on all counts. The only constructive critisism I could give you would be to avoid saying "You are not going to convince me...". Seems close minded. I know you're not and are basing the comment off of evidence, but it seems like that. To be honest, I can be convinced of just about anything if the proper evidence were presented and everyperson interested could analyze and look at it.
I am open minded about most things but I am not open minded about my ability to fly or about 40 year old men having sex with 3 year old children. You don't want your mind to be too open or your brains may fall out.
@Shayrah I wasn't intending to say "Be open-minded" more. The example you give about your ability to fly is exactly what I'm talking about. We can rule that out because there's plenty of evidence to the contrary. The example you give about pedophilia is more of a moral question and has nothing to do with my comment. I'm saying that by saying "You are not going to convince me of X" SEEMS close minded.
I don't agree with what you are saying in this video Shayrah. You are basically painting all christians with the biblical literalist brush. You are using the "the bible says it, so obviously you have to believe it" argument. Fact is, most christians take the bible allegorically. Only extremists believe it is all true. Crazy people will seek out justification for their actions. If the bible wasn't there, they would find something else. There are just bad people in the world. Sad but true.
I am not painting anyone, anyway. I am saying, this is what the book says, whether you like it or not. you cannot claim that you think someone is not a Christian when their acts are condoned in the scriptures. As I said in the video, people will still do bad things, but to get GOOD people to do evil takes religion. You should try watching the whole video before commenting.
@Shayrah lol wow you really shouldn't come at someone who was politely disagreeing with you so hard. You are still doing exactly what I accused you of in your comment. It's not condoned in scripture if they think scripture means different things. There is no 1 interpretation for the bible. As you are making the positive claim that good people are turned bad by the bible, I feel that needs some backing up. And I did watch the whole video. Way to make assumptions.
People like you preach open mindedness while being closed to my opinion or view....trying to force your openness down my throat. You are hypocrites and annoying. Please go argue with someone who has less intelligence and cannot see this paradox.
@Shayrah LMAO ok Shayrah. You know absolutely nothing about me outside of about 900 characters worth of text, but apparently you are an expert so there you go. When did I "preach open-mindedness" or "shove" anything down your throat? All I am saying is that you are making over simplifications, which are akin to generalizations, which is ignorance, which is bad. You should be trying to fight generalizations rather than making them. It makes you no better than the fundies.
Let's say there is a book which tells you that you should use bird blood to cure leprosy of your home. If I call that stupid and say it is ridiculous, does it make me a fundie? Should I remain open minded about this practice?
@Shayrah Hopefully we can get to the crux of the issue with this. If you knew someone who got leprosy and tried to rid their house of it with bird blood, and you called bullshit, more power to you. But if there were billions of people getting this information from said book, 95% of them took it completely allegorically, and knew/admitted it wouldn't work nor do they think it is supposed to, it would be wrong of you to hold up the book and say, "look at the dumb bullshit you all believe,"
I never said anyone believes this stuff...I said the book is at best dumb but at worst evil. I am laying no judgement on the believers other than ask them if they even read the freakin thing...
@Shayrah Then please explain to me why you are throwing random bible verses out without context or interpretation from biblical scholars. I mean lets get real for a minute. Neither one of us are actual biblical scholars. Do you really feel you have enough authority to tell people what the meanings behind the writings of the bible are. Your video is replete with you doing just that. I know this because I just watched it again and it reaffirmed why I started in the first place. Honestly it's cont.
WOW, you are asking for experts of a fairy tale. It doesn't take an expert to know that saying you should slam a child's head on a stone is a horrible thing. Don't Christians constantly throw out random Bible verses without context? Anyway, if you knew anything about me from watching my earlier vids, you would know that I am quite knowledgeable about the bible and have studied both Greek and Hebrew having been raised by an expert and surrounded by books on the subject...js
@Shayrah stuff like this that gives atheists problems when debating christians. Christians wont even talk about the bible with atheists simply because of people not doing any homework. Too many atheists just grab random quotes from the bible to defend their position. Tf00t vs WBC for example. I just feel like this video went the wrong way towards trying to change a perception on something important. That being it is wrong to beat children. smacking christians should have little to do with that
Except that their texts condone stoning children to death for little offenses and have verses saying you should use corporal punishment to teach a child how to behave. No to mention this story was on a Christian home that used the scripture to condone the beating of their children, one of which was killed during these beatings.
@Shayrah Ok this will be my last comment as it is becoming abundantly clear you want to be right, not listen. So cool I wont bring up the fact that the vast majority of christians don't look at the bible historically, I wont bring up your argument from authority fallacy. I wont bring up the fact that if the bible was to blame children would be beaten to death constantly. There would be no sensationalism. All I will say is it is sick you are using this to further the atheist agenda. unsubbed.
Atheist agenda? How can there be an atheist agenda? We don't believe anything! Where was there an argument from authority? You said I was not an expert and I pointed out how I have studied the Bible quite extensively. Are credentials and knowledge now a fallacy? Now, I am not saying the Bible is to blame for all beatings, but it was for this one. And it is the excuse used by many other abusers and is in the scripture. Why are you defending this book anyway?
Very good video. Religion truly does provide grounds to justify many horrible acts and history has shown us this time and again. Religion along with racism are the best means of dehumanizing entire populations. Religion has been a political tool for population control and power hoarding. It's sad to see fundamentalism having such a sway on politics especially in the US, a country that won it's freedom from the tyranny that kept Europe in the dark ages only to slowly slip back into it.
The fact that we have so many different Christian factions all with their own spin and interpretation of scripture, is it not more proof that the Bible is flawed.
@jeff61177 Anyone that believes a book is made by god that has many human fallacies and traits should have their sanity questioned. But somehow sadly the blind believers have traditionally been the norm and critical thinkers have a history of being persecuted. Religion is hurtful to human progression and extremely useful for tyranny. It's sad how many cling to ignorance.

Are you asserting that a person perhaps a person who considers him or herself to be a modern day Jew, Muslim, or Christian is somehow required to follow this verse from Exodus 21:20-21?
astr0al3x 2 months ago
@Shayrah In regards to you comment on Westboro "follows the rules of their religion to a T"
Is your opinion that there is only one true interpretation of the Bible and Westboro Baptist Church has it? If so, I would be interested to know how you reached that conclusion. As far as rules of the Old testament and how they should be interpreted, isn't that one of the central
topics that the writers of the books contained within the Bible attempt to address? Best regards-
astr0al3x 2 months ago
@astr0al3x When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
There aren't a million different ways to interpret this it's pretty self explanatory. If you somehow found a way to not have to follow verses like these then good for you, because the world would suck if ppl obeyed it.

nicomell1 4 weeks ago
@Shayrah Regarding prooftexting- Not okay in my opinion -I don't care who's doing it-It's Christian or non-Christian- It's lazy IMHO. Fundamentalism is belief system followed by some Christians, not all. I suspect that there are many who would identify themselves as Fundamentalist Christians would denounce Westboro Baptist biblical interpretation. Perhaps you would prefer the statistical term "outlier" to "extreme"? Thanks for responding.

nicomell1 4 weeks ago
According to your arguement, you seem okay with using Westboro Baptist Church as proper model to define true Christianity. Using the fringe extreme to define the whole. So is it fair to define all of Islam with the 9/11 attackers view of it? How about using Stalin as a example of true secular humanism ? How about Mao Zedong as another example?,
astr0al3x 2 months ago
@astr0al3x
Shayrah 2 months ago 2

The problem which all atheists face is to, in an intelligible, coherent, coalescing not flippant way, explain where "right and wrong" come from. The second you use sarcasm and flippancy you have not only failed to answer the question, you have failed yourself.
seriously, watch any atheistic video and roughly 98% of them use flippancy as an armour against the truth.
drewdpd1981 4 months ago
@drewdpd1981 What you do describe as flippancy can also be seen a normal way of critique. The girl who made this video did it in a respectful way imo. And God can only be seen as the source of object morality if we do not weigh his actions. The funny thing is, not judging God his actions is a subjective moral decision in itself.
And stating something is the truth without any scrutiny.. Not the way forwards it seems
Ranokian 4 months ago
@drewdpd1981 OK drew, where did right and wrong come from? I don't know. I can't tell you where right and wrong came from because I don't know. That doesn't mean "goddidit," that just means that we don't know the definitive answer at this time, although we do have several hypotheses.

Humans, mostly men, have long been "speaking for god" and they call it the bible. The old testament reflects a more ancient understanding and consequently a far more primitive image of god. 15 centuries after the Exodus "plagues" suggested as a nasty god sent punishment, we have a new testament "jesus" who claims divinity yet is far more civilized. The passage of time should bring enlightenment. Hence, the old testament scary god and the nice new testament god are images of human awareness.
superjoe1949 5 months ago
Your references to God killing children "et al" is out of context. If you insist on reading and interpreting Scripture as a literalist, let people know. However, the major opinion of scriptural scholarship refutes your conclusions. Here is why. The bible is an antropomorphic expression in it's understanding of God and divine activity in the world. E.g. "slay the child" is an ancient level of awareness of "divine" justice, hardly accurate for God however. Just a 1st century primitive insight.

Tigranis 5 months ago
Agreed. Anyone who considers the Bible to be moral is either 1) cherrypicking, or 2) willfully ignorant.
Tigranis 5 months ago
Congratulations, great video! It's very simple: Everybody who says "god says", "it's god's will" or things like that is a criminal.
Why? It leaves no room for discussion or reasoning or even conversation. It can be used to justify any and all atrocities. The fact that most believers don't use it that way doesn't change its potential to cause harm.
Stifling human conversation is the worst thing you can do, and that's exactly what "gods word" does!

Shayrah 5 months ago
I dig your passion, knowledge, and courage. I'm right there with you on all counts. The only constructive critisism I could give you would be to avoid saying "You are not going to convince me...". Seems close minded. I know you're not and are basing the comment off of evidence, but it seems like that. To be honest, I can be convinced of just about anything if the proper evidence were presented and everyperson interested could analyze and look at it.

Sad but true.
anarchy1nc 5 months ago
@anarchy1nc
Shayrah 5 months ago
@Shayrah lol wow you really shouldn't come at someone who was politely disagreeing with you so hard. You are still doing exactly what I accused you of in your comment. It's not condoned in scripture if they think scripture means different things. There is no 1 interpretation for the bible. As you are making the positive claim that good people are turned bad by the bible, I feel that needs some backing up. And I did watch the whole video. Way to make assumptions.
anarchy1nc 5 months ago

@Shayrah LMAO ok Shayrah. You know absolutely nothing about me outside of about 900 characters worth of text, but apparently you are an expert so there you go. When did I "preach open-mindedness" or "shove" anything down your throat? All I am saying is that you are making over simplifications, which are akin to generalizations, which is ignorance, which is bad. You should be trying to fight generalizations rather than making them. It makes you no better than the fundies.
anarchy1nc 5 months ago
@anarchy1nc
Let's say there is a book which tells you that you should use bird blood to cure leprosy of your home. If I call that stupid and say it is ridiculous, does it make me a fundie? Should I remain open minded about this practice?
Shayrah 5 months ago
@Shayrah Hopefully we can get to the crux of the issue with this. If you knew someone who got leprosy and tried to rid their house of it with bird blood, and you called bullshit, more power to you. But if there were billions of people getting this information from said book, 95% of them took it completely allegorically, and knew/admitted it wouldn't work nor do they think it is supposed to, it would be wrong of you to hold up the book and say, "look at the dumb bullshit you all believe,"
anarchy1nc 5 months ago
@anarchy1nc
I never said anyone believes this stuff...I said the book is at best dumb but at worst evil. I am laying no judgement on the believers other than ask them if they even read the freakin thing...
Shayrah 5 months ago
@Shayrah Then please explain to me why you are throwing random bible verses out without context or interpretation from biblical scholars. I mean lets get real for a minute. Neither one of us are actual biblical scholars. Do you really feel you have enough authority to tell people what the meanings behind the writings of the bible are. Your video is replete with you doing just that. I know this because I just watched it again and it reaffirmed why I started in the first place. Honestly it's cont.
anarchy1nc 5 months ago
@anarchy1nc
Shayrah 5 months ago
@Shayrah stuff like this that gives atheists problems when debating christians. Christians wont even talk about the bible with atheists simply because of people not doing any homework. Too many atheists just grab random quotes from the bible to defend their position. Tf00t vs WBC for example. I just feel like this video went the wrong way towards trying to change a perception on something important. That being it is wrong to beat children. smacking christians should have little to do with that
anarchy1nc 5 months ago
@anarchy1nc
Except that their texts condone stoning children to death for little offenses and have verses saying you should use corporal punishment to teach a child how to behave. No to mention this story was on a Christian home that used the scripture to condone the beating of their children, one of which was killed during these beatings.
Shayrah 5 months ago
@Shayrah Ok this will be my last comment as it is becoming abundantly clear you want to be right, not listen. So cool I wont bring up the fact that the vast majority of christians don't look at the bible historically, I wont bring up your argument from authority fallacy. I wont bring up the fact that if the bible was to blame children would be beaten to death constantly. There would be no sensationalism. All I will say is it is sick you are using this to further the atheist agenda. unsubbed.
anarchy1nc 5 months ago
@anarchy1nc

"If you're a non-believer" in Chronicles 15:12-1? Don't you mean 2 Chronicles 15:12-13?

Very good video. Religion truly does provide grounds to justify many horrible acts and history has shown us this time and again. Religion along with racism are the best means of dehumanizing entire populations. Religion has been a political tool for population control and power hoarding. It's sad to see fundamentalism having such a sway on politics especially in the US, a country that won it's freedom from the tyranny that kept Europe in the dark ages only to slowly slip back into it.

The fact that we have so many different Christian factions all with their own spin and interpretation of scripture, is it not more proof that the Bible is flawed.

Anyone who would kill because of somthing they read in a book has got big problems.
