  • I agree with both.Wow good job Debbie,to have a brittle tongue...

  • Groucho 2012 and i just fell in love..such talent will probably never be seen again..The Marx Brothers :)

  • Debbie Reynolds was ahead of her time...she's nobody's fool.

  • That was odd that Groucho commented on marriage to Debbie in how a after a few years the woman looses her charm. Wow Debbie did not bat an eye. I guess by then she was over the Liz and Eddie Fisher scandal.

  • So Groucho started it!

  • That "Generals" shot was f-in brilliant !!! LIGHTNING QUICK !!! Sure , he's probably used that line a lot before , but that annoying Debbie wasn't even trying to set him up and he STILL nailed it outta the park !! And at his age - that was AWESOME !!! Thank you God for giving us GROUCHO !!!

  • Debbie should've just shut the hell up and let the legend go on.

  • Thanks Debbie for defending marriage!

  • I like Groucho's hat. Very Parisian.

  • Marriage is the main cause of divorce.

  • Groucho!!!

  • How is it sexist to she marriage is a bad idea. He right, it causes arguments

  • groucho was awesome but face it,he was definitely sexist. most men of his time were though

  • wow 100 letters a week (LOL)

  • @amaxamon Why say Debbie's such a hypocrite - what'd she do?

  • soo true what groucho said here

  • groucho the radical...but debbie knocked him down. groucho the sexist pig.

  • @cirosuperiore he's not sexist in any way, just an opinionated man who loves his sandwiches.

  • @quidnick Agree - and he's just being entertaining for the audience - which is what he does best!

  • Wrong, wrong wrong. Paulette was close but was almost immediately dismissed because of her "are we/are we not married" to Charlie Chaplin.

  • I don't think Chaplin acknowledged anyone outside of his cadre of friends, Hearst, Fairbanks, etc. Stan Laurel actually worked with him in England and was truly only one of maybe 3 performers who was in his talent league but he snubbed Stan when they both came to Hollywood.

  • I wish Reynolds would shut the hell up!

    Just want more Groucho stories.

    Legend.

  • @alexichimp365 OK - Groucho is funny, a talented comedian with his special very successful style. Debbie, is a good actress, and pretty good singer and entertainer, dancer - she doesn't have his talent but she's doing her best on this show...he definitely shines

  • Not as funny as Groucho Gottfried

  • Where are the nice girls,Groucho?!!!

    mmmmm,don't " hate on me" ladies,but it's the truth,lol. ;)

  • Debbie looked like she was ready to pounce starting at 3:05.

  • She really worked her gown when she made her exit! Love It

  • How many times was Groucho Marx on the dick cavett show because imdb says twice but when you go through youtube you find what appears to be him on at least six or so times.

  • That's some remark Groucho made to Debbie Reynolds about marriage. No wonder she left.

  • What Groucho said really hit home with Debbie, and she was probably upset, and even showed it a bit. Her famous two first marriages both ended exactly the way Groucho described them, without knowing it.

  • defundthewar, this week TCM had Bette Davis on with Dick Cavett. Bette was lying about how she turned down the part of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. Look for the repeat.

Every movie mogul in Hollywood said the only time they heard that story was from her and her alone. Jezebel was the poor man's Scarlett O'Hara.

She said she spent a whole year in England and never heard of the world famous novel (published in 1936) by Margaret Mitchell.

  • The truth, all Hollywood's Leading Ladies of the day tried to get an audition for two years. . . but who on Earth would have the guts to call Bette Davis on this story.

There is a behind the scene story that the part of Scarlett O'Hara was supposed to go to Paulette Goddard but Laurence Olivier wanted his wife to be in it. The fights over Goddard or Vivien Leigh is what took two years. They just appeased the other leading ladies by having them audition to pacify them.

  • defundthewar, you said, "two first marriages both ended exactly the way Groucho described them, without knowing it."

Groucho and the whole world knew it. Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor made Angelina, Brad and Jennifer seem like small potatoes.

  • Everyone knew that Debbie's marriages to Eddie Fisher and Harry Karl were straight from hell after the divorces. I don't know if many people knew that- exactly what Groucho was talking about- both husbands latched on to what seemed like the perfect wife, then got bored with her. I only learned this from Debbie's as-told-to autobiography, done about 20 years ago.

  • The worst film they ever did was called Love happy. It was truly awful. They only did it for the money.

  • Yeah, Groucho's not interested in Generals. He's more interested in privates!

  • @squandermania Your comeback is worthy of Groucho!

  • I'm glad that Groucho had a lot of respect for Chaplain, and I'm sure it was mutual.

  • Groucho always steals the show! LOL. Chaplin IS the greatest star!!!
