Dogs will roll in heavily scented areas to acquire a smell on their coats that masks their own. They "wear" the acquired scent as a disguise to aid in hunting. Often times the heavy scent is produced by a dead animal, feces or of some other origin that we would consider noxious. I have had a Jindo for 6 years. Although they can be difficult when young and require a lot of exercise, they make loyal companions. Really an incredible bread with great character traits.
I've had a lot of dogs and have loved them all, but let me tell you that Jindo's are EASILY the one of the smartest, most loving and loyal dogs around!
@MiloTheShiba That's because all the Japanese breeds are descendants of dogs that originate from Korea. All the NE asia spitz types have similar look which is also the origin for Inuit dogs.
Wow, I thought you were just misspelling "Dingo" Then I watched the footage. I have an American Dingo, the behavior between the dogs is amazingly similar. Physical characteristics differ a bit especially in the tail and ears. Basic size and body mass along with the details of the coat are identical.
It's interesting to see other Rare Breeds up as close as the Internet can do. I have no doubt that Jindo and Dingo are closely related along the Coyote family.
@ThistleDewToo You have an actual dingo?!? WOW! Ya I noticed my jindo looking very similar to the dingos ive researched online. Also, it seems every dingo is different by climate and environment. The Jindo is said to be brought by Mongolians during their takeover. I wonder if they just domesticated a Dingo and started to breed them.
oh and another thing jindos are so smart and hate to be alone my mom 1 day accidently left my jindo outside with no leash and when she came bac 15min later my jindo stayed their looking at the door to go back in. a jindo is also like the perfect gaurd dog but the down side to owning a jindo is that its double coated so they will shed A lot of fur.
hahah my jindo use to do the same thing when she was a puppy she is now 8 years old (turnin 9 in november) she tends to be lazy now but u know when a jindo does that its a way of marking somthing but i forgot any ways there basically rolling in garbage, poo poo, or another dogs pee pee i know its gross but jindos are so cute and awesome
It's always cool to see a Jindo doing Jindo things. When we first got our Jindo (a shelter rescue, but apparently his first owner was not cool because he's very attached to us), we thought what is this dog? But now we know that while he's not a normal dog, he's a perfectly normal Jindo. (Except he does a handstand when he pees. It's more than a leg lift, it's a full rotation up in the air with his full weight on his front paws. As soon as I get a video camera, it'll go on here.)
i hope people are careful when they're thinking of adopting jindos... they only know 1 owner/master. and you have to let the jindo know that you are the pack leader.
my songyi to our family is the best jindo ever... she's very protective of all of our family members, but know my dad is the leader. and trickles down to me last. she thinks that my sister and i are her sisters.
anyways. i wish i had recorded some of her running around the backyard, and her puppies...
