  • When Joe Louis asked Lena Horne, with whom he was then having a relationship, to keep score for him at a Hollywood golf benefit, the singer refused -- she was entertaining troops that day. Joe hit her with a left hook. Then he started to choke her. In his 1978 autobiography, written with Edna and Art Rust Jr., Louis said that the only thing that saved Lena's life was an aunt in the next room who threatened to call the police

  • a true champion of the WORLD

  • SRR didn't even turn pro until Louis had been champ for a few years.

Louis was an icon before anyone ever heard of Ray Robinson.

  • How can one get intouch with the son of Joe Louis?

  • the film "Raging Bull" says the date of the first fight SRR and Lamotta had. It was in early - mid 30's. I think

  • Joe Louis did what he had to do to pave way for Blacks to express themselves in future Generations.

He was the first Black Athelete to be sort of embraced by Whites.

His son is a brilliant speaker.

  • His son is intelligent and very articulate like the next President of the United States Barack Obama.

  • I thought the same thing, this guy can really express himself

  • i what helped is that he beat the german champ loved by hitler in the time of ww2

  • Clear, intelligent & informative. I could listen to this man talk for hours - same way as I could watch his father's great fights for hours. Thank you, Mr Barrow. You had a very very great father.

  • Very true.

  • Joe Louis REST IN PEACE!

You inspired Sugar Ray Robinson, who inspired Ali, who inspired many others.

  • Ali disrespected Louis alot.

  • Yeah but he inspired SRR, who was Ali's idol.

  • please....Sugar Ray was a already a huge name by the time louis made it. they were friends, think they were raised in the same block. but he wasnt inspired by him at all.

  • Every black fighter from the 40's - 70's was heavily inspired by Louis - including both Sugar Rays and Ali.

  • Right on brother!

  • @perfecto100

That isn't true, Sugar Ray says Louis is his idol. He inspired him tremendously. SRR carried Louis' bags when he went to train at Brewsters gym in Detroit when Ray was younger.

  • @Xman231

actually i'd say sugar ray and joe louis had very different styles, though both were devastating punchers with either hand.
