@dogfight156 for bullion coins i would go off the weight, if it says 1 oz pure 999 it should weigh 1 oz. If it does'nt weigh what it says its probably fake. Another test is to use a magnet if it sticks its not silver or do a silver acid test. I just bought a jewelry box for $20 it weighs 895 grams, im sure its silver but cant find a hallmark it passes the magnet test but im shopping for an acid test to confirm, fingers crossed lol

You are not crazy. Even if nothing happens, you can give it to your kids before you pass away with no estate taxes. If you had everything in dollars, the IRS will tax everything before you can pass it onto the next generation. Recommend sticking to Amer Silver Eagles because when you sell it, dealer does not have to issue a 1099 form unless the sale exceeds 1000 bucks. Otherwise all other silver sales require a 1099 form and reported to IRS.
