Leonas vocal range is on a higher scale than Melanies, which means she can belt the higher notes out easier (this is why she appears to have more control). For Meanie the low notes are belted out more and the high notes are harder to sing (so less control).
I think Melanie was singing it at a higher key..watch it again then is quite obvious. But Leona had slightly better control at certain parts of the song. But overall I think Melanie's version is much more powerful and the key is closer to what Whitney did with her version. And I think Melanie has a better voice too. Whatever it is, Whitney is simply unbeatable.

@lameymeme Sorry, actually both singers sang in the same key, I am a professional musician. Leona has a brighter tone than Melanie and the arrangements were completely different, Melanie's was all butchered up. Melanie was also very emotional and broke down in tears after her performance due to Simon tormenting her by "letting her go" and then bringing her back in, so cut her some slack. I actually prefer Melanie's sound, she just needs some professional training that's all.

Her vocal was super weak for the entire beginning. It was like she unsure. She did pretty well once the song started to pickup. Flat at 3:39 at the peak of the build up. She keeps cutting her notes short at the end of each phrase and then she finished with that annoying "run" at the end with a falsetto voice. Really annoying!!! This is NOT better than Melanie Amaro. I was actually expecting a lot more because of the comments on here, but, I was left very disappointed. UGH!!!!!!

I think Leona is great!! and Melanie is great too!!!!!!! Leona has better voice control than Melanie,but Melanie's voice is powerful than Leona.

Leona's tone really nice. Her pitching is flawless, knowing how to control it varying it well. Leona always have her own style and originality which differs from other artists.

cannot compare leona and melanie, leona sang in a higher range and still sound soo good, while melanie is in a low range and also sounds good. Both are good singers.

@lameymeme Sorry, actually both singers sang in the same key, I am a professional musician. Leona has a brighter tone than Melanie and the arrangements were completely different, Melanie's was all butchered up. Melanie was also very emotional and broke down in tears after her performance due to Simon tormenting her by "letting her go" and then bringing her back in, so cut her some slack. I actually prefer Melanie's sound, she just needs some professional training that's all.

@jjesja27 Are you sure the arrangement was different?. I'm not actually sure what an 'arrangement' is, but the song structure was exactly the same, the only difference was that Leona did more vocal acrobatics.

i like how Melanie Amaro was inspired by Leona Lewis's X-factor performance of this song. Leona at 03:29 and 04:11 beats every sing contestant of any singing competition.

Melanie Amaro did sing this song better. Dont get me wrong, Leona is amazing and is a mega star now. But in a few years Melanie will be much bigger than anyone thats won Xfactor in the past.

MELANIE AMARO'S VERSION IS FAR, FAR, FAR BETTER. LEONA MADE SOME TINY SLIGHT ERRORS A BIT BUT OVERALL EXCELLENT. HOWEVER, MELANIE AMARO'S WAS CLOSE TO FLAWLESS. MELANIE AMARO SINGS WAY BETTER. I JUST CAN'T BE SWAYED.

Melanie is too strained and is nowhere near this. The whole point of these kind of song is to show off the vocal range. Let discuss only when she can hit all notes. Just my two cent.

@wangyeoh06 yes charice's was great but she's not in a singing competition that time and is not restricted to 2mins or so, so i guess it's much more easier for her to belt it out especially with the help of the verses where she can breathe. This, IMHO for me is the best

Her vocal was super weak for the entire beginning. It was like she unsure. She did pretty well once the song started to pickup. Flat at 3:39 at the peak of the build up. She keeps cutting her notes short at the end of each phrase and then she finished with that annoying "run" at the end with a falsetto voice. Really annoying!!! This is NOT better than Melanie Amaro. I was actually expecting a lot more because of the comments on here, but, I was left very disappointed. UGH!!!!!!
