hes playing slide guitar, his guitar is made to be played like that, he's using a slide, which is a steel rod, as a fret,the guitar is called a weisenborne. this technique allows him to slide up and down the neck without making sudden pitch changes when he goes over a fret.

The man tours internationally to play his music all year round and to say he doesn't own a pair of shoes to deal with the cold, uncomfortable ground or protection for the feet or even wear them, slightly unthought of.
