  • Chealsea looks so damn lovely.

  • Plug-in hybrids are here NOW. However, I would never buy one from GM due to their handling of the EV-1. I guess I'll wait for Toyota/Honda/Nissan to offer me a 100+ MPG car. In the meantime I'm biking, riding an electric scooter, and showing Big Oil where they can stick their record profits!!!

  • agreed, I still like to think of a plug in hybrid as a unlimited mpg during normal commuting to work and 100mpg during long trips on holidays and vacations

  • you would be allot more inclined to spend 25 k if gas was $8 a gal. It will get up there someday!

  • lots of cars are 25k, thats like a good median price. and no one is saying toyota is green, thats why she is protesting against them. they are SUPPOSED to be green, and a lot of the time they don't act like it.

  • you seem tense man, calm down, breathe

  • Chelsea,

The Volt is not a hybrid. Not at all. Please revise your terminology. The Volt is an BEV with a range extender. This is *not* a small distinction.

    Thanks

    mykal

  • uh, yes it is a hybrid! any thing that has two different powersouces is a hybrid. if you take a 1975 jeep cj bolt an electric motor to the tranny and put a diesel generator in it for recharging the batteries that's a hybrid.

  • Wrong. If that were true then my current car with a gas engine and alternator(generator) would be a hybrid. The Webster's definition is:

b: something (as a power plant, vehicle, or electronic circuit) that has two different types of components performing essentially the same function

    ====

The electric motor and gas engine do not perform the same function in the Volt at all.

You can call it a hybrid, but it's not.

  • Great comments Chelsea! You are an amazing teacher and spokesperson. This is all worth it, even though you are incredibly busy. You probably have more air miles logged than the shuttle astronauts. Keep on plug-in!

  • @scotiacruiser She says thanks, and that she does that all the time.

  • Chelsea, I love your clean, unadulterated opinions. People are buying NEVs like Zenns and Flybos here in Seattle for $15K. I would imagine they would want plug-in hybrids to be able to go on longer drives sometimes and to go on the freeway for short distances.

  • How can you not fall in love with Chelsea Sexton? Green IS sexy...

  • @Nichen Are you getting the hots for my mother?
