  • Hangon, he's given two answers about a McDonald's salad.

It's not easy to understand, Phil. I agree with your personal stance that it is a complicated idea - you're the leader of the party - get rid of this stupid idea!

  • I feel sorry for Phil here, they are being a bunch of idiots, surely even you Whaleoil, the staunchest anti-labour blogger can see that.

  • @shreddakj They are being idiots, but so too will the lawyers for companies like McDonalds etc who will take the Government to court if their salads are deemed not to be GST free.

That's where the complexity is and where the additional cost (currently not accounted for) will come from. The government will need to increase their legal team to fight these (idiotic?) battles. I think Australia is constantly having issues with these types of cases.

  • @Strathen That would easily be solved by having clear legislation in the first place.

  • @shreddakj Easy to say, harder to do.

Which I think is what this video highlights. If the legislation planning is clear, Goff would be able to squash all of these queries put to him. But he stumbled his way through. This is a free panel of experts, imagine the cost of having this discussion in a court of law.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, I just find it really hard to see it implemented for the cost Labour is putting forward and staying under budget.
