This song by the New Colony Six reminds me of the Colonial House restaurant in Oxnard, in 1966-67. Have the New Colony Six ever dined there in Oxnard?,Have they got their name from that Oxnard restaurant?
i was 3 when this song was released, i am 45 and it sounds fresh every time i hear it. i wish i was older was this song came out, but I made up for lost time.
One of my favorite performers of all time! He used to play at a place called "Lawrence of Oregeno" in Chicago every Fri. Night, and lead the audience through a variety of 60's songs from various groups in addition to the New Colony Six
I haven't this song in a long long time, then all of sudden I asked my daughter to look it up on smart phone couldn't remember the name or the group, I did remember a few lines...... I feel like a teenager I keep playing it over.. Really love it!
Got hired to write music for a real estate video down here in FL many years ago. I mentioned I had been in the record business, and the guy who hired me said, "Yeah me too." It was Patrick McBride, of New Colony Six! I still had this album, got him to sign it. Real nice guy. Said that one of the group was killed in a motorcycle accident years before. One of my favorite ballads ever.
@dmarlo995 That is not Jerry Seinfeld. It's one of the gang members from the, "Sharks". Did you ever see the movie, "Westside Story"? It was released in 1961 and still remains a musical classic.
That is Russ Tamblyn. That is Natalie Wood, all those still are from "West Side Story", His brother Larry was the drummer for the Standells , who did "Dirty Water"
@dmarlo995 - The guy at :47 is George Chakiris; and, the guy at :53 is Richard Beymer, in "West Side Story, " from 1961. Hope this helps, and, straightens out the Seinfeld mystery! :)
Takes me back to the time when there were so many things I wanted to say to her....and then you realize it doesn't matter what you say. She doesn't care.
I just had the pleasure of seeing Ronnie Ricer perform this song of his tonight at a private party in Willmette, IL. Priceless piece of rock history. People forget how troubled the late 1960s were and how soothing this song was when is soared to the top of the charts in 1969.
@7kidchaos Thanks for the info. I always loved this song and 1969 was a great year of music with so many artists at the top of their careers from Neil Diamond, Elvis, Beatles ...and yes The New Colony Six.
I adore this song. Weeping. I love that West Side Story is the story you picked.

:04 "I believe, I believe. It's silly, but I believe." I wonder if Maureen O'Hara knew her daughter was running around with a bunch of street toughs.
