Nope, this song is as amazing as when i heard it the second time. I say second time because when i first heard this song, i was like WTF is this?!? I dont understand this shit! How is this even music?.....Burial forced me to listen to something different. Since then its been Radiohead, Apparat, Egyptrixxx, Moderat, Modeselektor, Flying Lotus, Ikonika, DatSik, Excision, Skream, Benga, Four tet and Coldplay/Snow Patrol. I guess Burial taught me emotion>the beat itself.i know, cool story right bro?
@riotoftheangels lol seriously this songs shitloads closer to dubstep than most skrillex and skrillex is baitly way closer to lady gaga than burial. and the people who dont like skrillex are usually old school dubstep fans who dont like the fact that electro house is being passed off as dubstep. i have nothing against skrilex i think he has some decent stuff. its people like you i have a problem with. stupid and ignorant. go fuck yourself :D
I usually listen to metal and have been branching out to electronic music a lot lately. Can someone tell me what the fuzz over this kind of dubstep is over? To me it seems like some loose drum pattern, a bass pattern and some guy singing without following any sort of scale. That's what I find in this music. I don't hate it, I don't dislike it, I just don't get with the flow.
@MrUberAnarchist For me it's about the swing, the pushed beats, the slow attack sub bass, the space in which it resides, the huge wet reverbs that entomb you, the stellar vocals and not that they're not following a key, which they are, but what they suggest to you, the understated minimalism at 5:36 . I love its ability to be something in the background, something to sleep to, or it can be as big a spectacle as you like. It's just so smooooth. But if it's just not for you that's equally fine.
@MrUberAnarchist it's the ambience that makes this track and all of burials track have such an effect on you. the space that is in the track, the uncluttered feel too it is smooth and sublime. the singing is a sample from an r&b track, which is common in burial's production. he has alot of 2-step elements in his music, one could say it's the backbone of most of his tracks.
dubstep comes from 2 step garage, not dub reggae. the word dub was used because it was derived from the darker, instrumental, more experimental garage b-sides, or "dubs".
@b3naan Dubstep started out from the genres Dub and 2-step. Dub is an electronic genre that usually has an emphasis on bass and/or drum style, with random vocal samples (usually reggae). 2-step/Garage is an electronic genre from the UK, that i admit I don't know too much about, but I know it has a strange drum pattern and that burial has this type in his music. Emphasis on bass and random vocal samples + 2-step beat = Dubstep. Though to be honest I don't care bout genre that much lol.
@mrbloke11 I'm not a genre expert but I'm pretty sure 2-step/garage is a big influence to the genre. Though that also might be true. All I know for sure is I love this shit and glad it came around :3
@navox377 UM BITCH. Skrillex is THE shit. Not shit. So maybe you're just confused on the difference between good and bad music. That has to be it, cause the only people who don't like Skrillex are the ones who don't know that Dubstep exists or the people that listen to preppy shit like Lady Gaga or some stupid music like that.
By this, I mean that Skrillex is a fucking god. c:
@RiotoftheAngels you must be mad! there are thousands if not millions of people who know dubstep exists, dont listen to lady gaga and despise skrillex... you've actually made such a sweeping and rediculous statement it just proves how retarded skrillex fanboys can be... the audacity to post a comment like that on a burial song is just unreal. Skrillex is not a god! If anyone, Burial is the god. your comment is blasphemy of the highest degree. I hope your speakers explode.
@RiotoftheAngels I wish to inform you that your statement where you proclaimed that "people who don't like Skrillex are the ones who don't know that Dubstep exists" is utterly and completely false. Dubstep was created in the UK and was a mixture of dub and garage/2-step. It sounded nothing like the dance music that comes out nowadays that sounds like DNB raped with a wobble bass. Also you Implied that I listen to lady gaga, I do not. I enjoy the pleasure of listen to music like Radiohead.
I still remember the first time I heard this and how absolutely blown away I was by it. Burial's music is so fucking ground-breaking. There's no dubstep I've heard since that can top Burial and he literally inspired all the dub that came after him.
i dont even understand how you can compare burial to any other music he is in groundbreaking territory one of the greatest composers of our time and your childish squabbling will never change this fact ! if you know anything about production which i am assuming most of you do not, the way that burial manipulates vocals is amazing and to make a sound so full whilst keeping all the elements at a minimal is bloody hard !!! trust i know ! if you dont like it jog on & dont leave comment as you leave!
/watch?v=fzN_CQ1qFYI >>> Please! Go to this video theres some saying that SKRILLEX IS BETTER THAN BURIAL please go there and tell him hes wrong and how much he sucks DICK go and save BURIAL!! because he thinks SKRILLEX IS THE BEST go!!
@DroiidLife I know you probably like Skrillex now, thats because you've just begun to tap into to the world of dubstep. Skrillex has just been glamorized. I know he's good but hes no where near to the emotions that Burial creates. DNB in my opinion should capture what Bach or Mozart's minuets capture using electronic drum kits and vocal samples. I agree skrillex is creative but its not the same. Skrillex is meant for partying. Burial is meant to heal the broken heart.
@DroiidLife That's like saying saying a rap artist is better than a rock artist. You're supposed to compare apples to apples not watermelons. It's strictly boils down to one's personal preferences in music.
You are entitled to your opinion, but Skrillex does not make deep, ambient, "hyperdub", he makes mindless, chaotic, "dubstep."
I am not hating on Skrillex. I like his music. But I love Burial.
I don't even know how to classify Burial, genre-wise.
to me this album and especially this tune is up there with the second movement of Vangelis 'Heaven and Hell', Pink Floyd's 'A Saucerful of Secrets' and some of the earlier Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze as the most beautiful music made outside classical music.
give me more then the recommended dose of burial, striaght into my veins, head ruptures in pain, eyes dilate, mouth salvates, taste it, see it, drip slow drip down my face, now numb, cold, sweating beads off my skull, want more, give me more
I think this music appeals to most city dwellers life myself. We understand the lonely feeling of living of the city even though the environment is chaotic. Ironically though, at the same time it can become sterile, predicable, and very bleak.
you are in the train, nobody near you. it's very late and it's raining. only thing that you can see through a dirty window is an industrial landscape....
@CloudStrifeOfficial I only realised it very recently, it came about as a set of epiphanies that helped me get my head out of my arse and start looking around me. And I've been trying to point it out to people for the last week or so, most people don't wanna hear it, it makes me happy that you did. Now point it out to some other people, and maybe they'll point it out to some more others. This is how you can make a difference in your own individual life
shit , i hear vocals ...IT must be an r&b tune then ...but wait the beat is broken ...oh no ... it must be some kind of break beat ,,,what the H ...i hear other elements compelling me to class this as some kind of dub ...steps are used to make this some 2-stepy..how will i ever sleep easy not knowing how to class this genre..oh snap ,
It's actually a brand new category of music that' s been labelled "night bus" after Burial's debut album, which seems to be the first of it's kind. Some people are calling it "post-dubstep" too. Think of it as Chillwave crossed over to the dark side.
@HFZARGOV People always liked categories, and always will. It's in the groups we put ourselves into, in the borders that separate us into nations, in the invisible lines that divide up our combined consciousness, it's the root and representation of all the worlds problems. Nature doesn't organise itself in this way, none of it is really there.
@abetrasken all animals group themselves for safety. even within the same species lions packs attack other lion packs, tigers attack @unknown' tigers. even fish will do the same. can you imagine if a siberian tiger strolled into a pack of indian tigers....shit would hit the fan. nature is very organised, granted it is all coincidence but there is phenominal organisation there. i mean look at the food chain, and thats just one very small aspect of it.
@Ricko1754 it's only called a chain because that's the easiest way for humans to sort it, nature is chaos, a random and infinitely complex cause and effect sequence. I wasn't saying that animals don't compete and group together to further the process of evolution, I guess what I was saying is that I feel our species, with it's self-aware, conscious mind, and powerful curiosity, should have evolved past the need to divide ourselves into groups, it's not necessary for us we could be so much better
"Perhaps most importantly, his basslines sound like nothing else on Earth. Distorted and heavy, yet also warm and earthy, they resemble the balmy gust of air that precedes an underground train." - Derek Walmsley - The Wire Primers

Has anyone else noticed the subtle sound of the lightswitch in this track?

@abetrasken
subconsciously: yes
consciously: not until you pointed it out.
haha, weird! :D

It's actually a brand new category of music that' s been labelled "night bus" after Burial's debut album, which seems to be the first of it's kind. Some people are calling it "post-dubstep" too. Think of it as Chillwave crossed over to the dark side.

doesn't need a category
jaffaorange187 10 months ago 4
@jaffaorange187 people like categories, for some reason
HFZARGOV 10 months ago
@HFZARGOV same reason they like trolleys in the supermarket.
windmoveswater 10 months ago
@HFZARGOV People always liked categories, and always will. It's in the groups we put ourselves into, in the borders that separate us into nations, in the invisible lines that divide up our combined consciousness, it's the root and representation of all the worlds problems. Nature doesn't organise itself in this way, none of it is really there.
abetrasken 9 months ago
@abetrasken all animals group themselves for safety. even within the same species lions packs attack other lion packs, tigers attack @unknown' tigers. even fish will do the same. can you imagine if a siberian tiger strolled into a pack of indian tigers....shit would hit the fan. nature is very organised, granted it is all coincidence but there is phenominal organisation there. i mean look at the food chain, and thats just one very small aspect of it.
Ricko1754 8 months ago
@Ricko1754 it's only called a chain because that's the easiest way for humans to sort it, nature is chaos, a random and infinitely complex cause and effect sequence. I wasn't saying that animals don't compete and group together to further the process of evolution, I guess what I was saying is that I feel our species, with it's self-aware, conscious mind, and powerful curiosity, should have evolved past the need to divide ourselves into groups, it's not necessary for us we could be so much better

i just like it! no matter style or whatever. It is emotional music that moves your soul

"Perhaps most importantly, his basslines sound like nothing else on Earth. Distorted and heavy, yet also warm and earthy, they resemble the balmy gust of air that precedes an underground train." - Derek Walmsley - The Wire Primers
Spot on description of Burial's bass.

I want to take away the man's vocals and slow down the beat. Too chill.
