  • uouuuuuuu........poooooooorrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaa,, hahahahahhahah lokoo000

  • well, its not rare now 200,000 people have seen it :D

  • A longing for simpler times. There hasn't been an ordinary man from any culture that ever walked the Earth that hasn't shared that sentiment. The intelligence of Van Zant's writing never got the credit it deserved.

  • Legends never die...

  • this isnt live, is it?

  • @a925111 : Buddy, this audio is straight offa Second Helping album.

  • Gary Rossington plays the lead guitar solo....Ed is on slide guitar.

  • Ed king yeah good insight he completed the round up your the first ive heard say that ed, california rednick classic thanks fer the insight.

  • Yea, it's too bad this vid can't be cleaned up. It would be wicked if it were clearly viewed and heard. Regarding all the politics talk: This is Rock & Roll brother, not a politcal format. Ronnie Van Zant could put words down that people felt, listened to, and shared. Rocker are all about piece. There's nothing wrong with being proud of where you're from.........

  • @TheARDynator there is a color version of this exact video here on youtube and it has sweet home alabama.

  • This is the original Skynyrd with Bob Burns on drums, there will never be another band as good as Skynyrd, plane crash and all that, and still one original memeber still rockin, SKYNYRD FOREVER!!!!

  • @wsumler I agree...damm what good memories!

  • How old is this video? It's great

  • Ed king is a magic man

  • Triple guitar attack !!!!! We will never see anything like this again. I love this stuff.

  • great video but ronnie was on ugly looking dude

  • that was great with the original line up ed king ron v was not seasoned there for stage presents but sounds great

  • A real great rareity

  • Ahh Bob Burns was a Monster on these albums, tight like the meat puppets.

  • @goatmeat1121 ~ Music Corp. of America, founded in 1934 - 67' as Decca, MCA Records was an American-based record company owned by MCA Inc., which later gave way to the larger MCA Music Entertainment Group (now Universal Music Group), of which MCA Records was still part. MCA Records was absorbed by Geffen Records in 2003. MCA's country division, MCA Nashville Records, is a still active imprint of Universal Music Group Nashville.

  • I loved the black circles iunder there eyes, I loved those long lost days :-)~~~

  • THANKS , WE NEED A MINT COPY NOW ! SEE YA , AL

  • THIS IS THE BOLLOCKS OF A BAND......

  • Too Cool. Looks like early 70s with Ed King.

  • @homemoviescolorado sure does. drummer especially looks to be bob burns as well.

  • Gibson Guitars+Marshall Amps= Rock n Roll

  • its not about the flag its a pride thing people and its not about that its about the damn music so enjoy

  • Love this. Pure rock and roll!

Could listen to this all day.

  • What stupid MF thinks their lipsynching? You must not know anything about this band. Oh and for the flag issue. YOU WEAR YOUR X AND I'LL WEAR MINE!!!

  • RONNIE VAN ZANT THE BEST EVER NO CONTEST

  • OLD TIME STRAIGHT ROCK & ROLL!!! LS 4EVER!!!FROM ARGENTINA.

  • nice, but the confederate flag in the background kind of ruined it for me.

  • @yitzchak13 Yeah a southern rock band having southern pride is ridiculous!

  • @yitzchak13 Really? Get over the Confederate flag thing, man! What if Southerners said the same thing about the American flag? Would that make you feel better? Read your history books, my friend.

  • Comment removed

  • @777notw Yankee living in the south 20 yrs-the Rebel flag didnt mean to Ronnie what it means to most southerns now days.To Ronnie & EARLY Skynyrd it was a southern pride symbol, not hate.Ronnie VanZandt had no hate in is heart - example he wanted to ban ALL Guns & if thats not enough listen & understand the music. Not only is he missed for his music but for how he could have maybe changed the way we think about each other.Don`t disrespect the man or the original version of the band with politics.

  • @NotJoe101 I completely agree with you, man. It's sad that the Confederate flag is seen as some symbol of hatred. I'm a Yankee myself and I don't make any connection with any form of hate when I think of the Stars and Bars. I'm a Civil War buff and I understand why the South fought the war and it was not all about slavery and hating African Americans. That's why I made the history book comment. By the way, there's not a racist bone in my body. It's sad that racism is connected with that flag.

  • @777notw While I agree with some of what you say, you are wrong about the war not being fought over slavery.

Civil War was all about slavery and no coincidence that the dividing line was between free and slave States.

The appologist theory that it was over "States Rights" fails to aknowlege that the "States Right" in question was the right of slavery.

Abraham Lincoln was a well known and published abolitionist.

  • @rosepetal108 I apologize for the wording of my comment. What I had meant to say was that the Civil War was not just about slavery. There were other causes: party politics, Abolitionism, Southern nationalism, Northern nationalism, expansionism, sectionalism, economics, etc.

The gist of my comment was that it is unfortunate that the Southern flag - which, correct me if I am wrong, was not originally intended to be a symbol of hatred - is seen as such today. Radical groups use it - that's wrong.

  • @777notw Using the flag as a symbol for protest is every Americans right. The people who use it to symbolize Southern pride have every right to use it and also the people who use it to protest Southern attitudes and issues have every right to use it.

Flags are by their very nature symbols. That is their purpose.

  • @rosepetal108:

The dividing line was not between the free and slave states.

Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Kentucky were Union slave states.

  • @bethpage89 LMAO How many free states were in the Confederacy?

  • @rosepetal108

None--even the parts of the South occupied by the Union were not free. The Emancipation Proclamation exempted by name counties and parishes that were in Union control, and explicitly applied only to areas in rebellion. It intentionally did not apply to those living in slavery in the Union states.

  • @rosepetal108

ALL of them. It's my heritage.

  • @stevebrownrocks Owning slaves is not a "heritage". Nor is it what southerners are proud of. Only idiots believe that. Certainly Lynyrd Skynyrd fought against racism every chance they could. The whole point is you can be proud of being a southerner and be against racism same time. Something Yanks just don't seem to understand. It is their own special form of bigotry.

  • @rosepetal108

I meant my family has lived in Ga. since before the Civil War. It had nothing to do w/ slavery, & Southern Rock is my heritage. How did you get slavery out of what I said? BTW, the Civil War was NOT fought over slavery. It was about the rights of Southern states to govern themselves & set their own taxes & such. LINCOLN made it about slavery so as to deter the British from intervention on the South's behalf.

  • @stevebrownrocks "rights of Southern states to govern themselves & set their own taxes & such"

That is so much BS. The states "right" that caused the civil war was slavery. Lincoln was an abolitionist.

  • @rosepetal108

Sorry, but the War was NOT about slavery. & Lincoln was no abolitionist, he was a fence-sitter. He was just like any other politician, he said what he thought the voters wanted to hear. He made slavery an issue only to try to prevent England from breaking the Union blockade of the South, as England & France had already abolished slavery. Another thing; only about 2% of Southerners owned slaves, & they were the big plantation owners.

  • @stevebrownrocks On October 16, 1854, in his "Peoria Speech", Lincoln declared his opposition to slavery, which he repeated en route to the presidency. Opposition to slavery is "abolitionist". Which Lincoln clearly was an abolitionist. However he was a politician and a moderate willing to make political compromises.....until the South walked out on the Union and started the war...leaving him no choices. He wasn't even inaugurated yet when the South left BECAUSE he was an abolitionist.

  • @NotJoe101 to say what it means to "most" you would have to know "most" and you don't know me.I don't care about his politics or yours anymore than I do Elton John's I just listen to the music and enjoy it. I make up my own mind.

  • @NotJoe101 Amen!!! :)

  • @NotJoe101 He didn't want to ban all guns only hand guns. Listen to the song he is talking specifically about the 38 special which at the time was known for backfiring alot. Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman. He was a hunter and a fisherman.

  • i like this song

  • Ronnie Van Zant was not the most talented poet, or musician that ever lived, but he was pretty damn good, and may he definitely rest in peace ( in his neil young shirt)

  • i think its a rare rare video it matches up sound and movement ..enjoy!

  • What a treat..

  • All original members ED KING AND BOB BURNS

  • I agree with whoever said it's the studio version over footage. I doubt very seriously if these boys would relent too lip sync anything. That just wasn't their way, they had too much pride.

  • What a classic footage,I first seen them in spring of 1974 and have been a fan since. Thanks so much for this footage.Classic.

  • Seeing Bob Burns and Ed King in this video takes my breath away...that was a genre that Southern Rock still has to live up to....Nobody like Skynyrd EVER!!!

  • @casaburi Must have been recorded before the 80's coz the plane crash was October 20, 1977 - Ronnie Van Zant wasn't here in the 80's- SADLY!!

  • who's playing slide guitar? ... where's steve gaines?

  • @jazzermonk This was before Gaines and even Artimus Pyle . This almost original skynyrd with Bob Burns on drums and Ed king on guitar. Even still , The studio version is transposed over the footage . Not lip synking

  • This is a jewel, thanks for uploading!

  • as time goes by with this kind of recording tape, it gets worn down...morons. GREAT POST!!! thank u

  • I'm not sure if he's lip syncing or not, looks to me like he got the word out before he licked his lips.

  • The all time best band there ever was !

  • TRUE AMERICANA

  • Was this recorded on sheep skin....how can footage be this bad.

  • This must be very early 70s with Ed King and Bob Burns. Great footage.

  • @mikeof59 That's what I was thinking too! maybe 73 or 74? Good to see footage with them playing. Also, billy Powell with no mustache! Love his t-shirt too, My Grass Is Blue!

  • nuss

    :o

  • this is definitely lip synched or a scam video. this is the studio recording of the song. any true fan would know that.

  • @rockbandrocker4 Has it occurred to you that footage of Ronnie and the boys, lip syncing or not, is hard to come by and most of the true fans don't really give a rat's ass if it is...

  • bass player at the back of three guitarists thats rough ha

    This is cool tho.

  • Whoa! This is a rare site indeed with Bob Burns and Ed King in a video - I've never seen a video with them in it. Thanks for sharing and RIP to all the FreeBirds we lost over the years.

  • Wow - Cool!!! Fresh New Classic Skynyrd always welcome!!!

  • Bob had anxiety issues,

Ed had it out with Ronnie,,

    and turns out saved his

lie kept him from plane crash

  • They didn't want the fame..lol No really I do remember ready years ago that Burns didn't want all the fame after the Muscle Shoals recordings.

  • anybody know why Ed King or Bob Burns left the band?

  • Ed King got sick of the constant one night stands that went on fore ever and bob burns got sick of what he considered some uppity self riotiouss feelings some of the guys in the band began to develop when they began to have a bit of success. This is just from what ive read over the years but ive read it from more than one source and it sounds quite plausible.

  • I always heard that Ed King left because of road fatigue.

  • nothing like hearing Ed King play lead....

  • I forgot to mention Allan Collins on lead guitar!... sorry

  • ummm the real skynyrd band... Bob Burns (drums), Leon Wilkinson (bass) and Ed King and Gary Rossington (guitars)...and of course Ronnie and Billy

  • Not to be a downer, and I love vintage video of the ONLY Skynyrd band, but this is footage with the single dubbed over it. (I think most fans know this). RVZRIP

  • Love that song and the rare footage that accompanies it. Anyone out there gonna be on the "Simple Man" cruise next week?

  • Lovely

  • I love these guys!!! Ronnie was such a bad ass, this video is rare but what's more rare is ronnie with no hat!!!! I love it

  • MCA was the band's first recording label.

  • So Great

  • How luxky are Skyndyrd fans that this made it tro youtube?

  • Bob Burns on drums even

  • Ed King!!!!

  • Skynyrd is the Sh*t, I just recently bought a piece of the tree that he song That Smell was written about.

    Vuzz.

  • Really you bought a piece of the ole oak tree? if so getting my saw and heading over to do some triming. Well at night. Wont be my first time at doing midnight landscaping..

  • Ass kickin Southern rock!!!!

  • Who cares if it's lip-synched? Still runs circles around the crap coming out these days. Everythings gotta be a freakin' mini movie or worse

  • @debilt8 Luv u bro. This is real. And about as gud as it gets.......

  • We do believe me......remember Chrissie?

  • I saw em in talahasee in 73..... wow those were the days... sweet grass.

  • Wow I bet that was a good time. Aint nothing like that going on in music anymore. Everythings too fucking commercial. Hold on those those memories.

  • This sooo lip synched. Skynyrd didn't sound that good live.. I know, I saw them twice. 1974, 1976. NO ONE was a bigger Skynyrd fan than me. NO ONE ;)

  • i like there music better live. weird huh. i just love live freebird.

  • It's great seeing Ed King play. He sure could pick.

  • don't forget they were workin for MCA,when this came out, still workin for the man, then

  • If it's not lip-synced, where is the horn section, you morons. Jesus, open your ears...this is the album version of the song.

  • Yes, it's the album version, truly lip synched here. It's done all too often, usually not at the bands' request either. The venue just isn't set up for a full on rock band to plug in and play.

  • Honestly, I doubt it was a "venue" issue, it's just an old-school promo clip...MTV's distant ancestor. It is cool that there are amps set up to make it come off more real, though. BTW, your screen name rocks dude. Skynyrd were the original rockin' rednecks, so you're in fantastic company!!

  • SKYNYRD MAYNE!!!

  • can a mother fucker say .... FUCK YEAH!!!!

  • This is a great old clip - would have loved to hear it not lip synched. Thanks for sharing.

  • this aint lip synched

  • thanks so much for sharing...awesome video, love this older stuff..do you know what year this was?

  • Wild educated guess, about 1973 or 74 . Ed King and Bob Burns left mid year in 74.

  • thanks i think i seen them in 73'...by the way, love your nickname :-D

  • Outstanding - very rare indeed. Bob Burns on drums! Ed King on guitar! Love this band...have seen them 5 times Lyve - just outstanding still!

  • like finding a pearl in an oyster

  • I wore this album out...won't even play anymore .umm humm

  • Good ole Southern Rock!! What year is this? Must be 70s.

  • I wish someone would also post the rare song Ronnie wrote "Song for the bad man".I saw/heard it on television once in a documentary, but never have saw it on any album from first to last.I hope I recorded it on VHS,but I have a lot to look through and not sure who to respectfully ask if I can upload it here if I even find it.Thanks for uploading this song.

  • The song title is "Cry For The Bad Man" It's on the album "Gimme Back My Bullets".

  • ill try to upload it today. both live and studio

  • I totally feel it phllylama, I am 46 with my 19 month old sitting on my lap, listening to the old studio versions, remembering, wishing it could have been different with Ronnie, Steve and Cassie, way back when...

  • LOL. At 44 I hear ya boys. But fortunately we did experience this stuff when we were young, great music, and it left an indellible impression on us. Still moves me to my core! God bless them for their timeless contribution to us all. Skynyrd!

  • At least you guys were alive to see them and hear them when they were still alive. I wasn't even close to being born yet!

  • Robert Johnson wrote Crossroads in the 20's.......

  • can i be 15 again?

  • Incredible !!!

When & Where was this recorded ?

  • Hi rjp333

  • such an underrated singer.

  • A hashsmokey basement-flat in 1976 is where I heard this the first time.

JJ Cale was playin' on a tinny stereo in the other room as I recall.

  • Everyones MIMICS old bluesmen because it was pure good music and they started Rock N roll. I wish someone today would try it cuz the music now suckS!!! Stop posting Kings of Leon too, they are not even in the same league as anything Skynyrd wrote.

  • its called a "cover" not stealing, bands like led zeppelin gave credit where credit was due

  • yeah sure that's y they got sued by chess records and willie dixon. don't get me wrong i love zeppelin but they did steal alot of lyrics

  • and then you woke up....

  • Yeah..This is a LIP SYNCH JOB..just like most of the videos from the 70's...Suprised they even have them plugged into amps..LOL..

  • is it a lip synch job? the guitars appear to be plugged in. I know that in newer music vid's the guitars are not usally plugged in if its a dub over.
