I wasn't sure if I was ready to make the jump from xp to 7 but now Im sure. I've been doing alot of audio recording and great multitasking is a must and I've been noticing a bit of a lag. This just threw me right over the fence man thanks.
It is a much better OS...really awesome actually. The flow between windows is great. The ONLY flaw I have seen with my Conroe 2.66 and radeon 5770 and 1066 3x1GB sticks....is even still alt tabing in games like call of duty is a little slow. But definitely not complaining.
I've done market research for IT products, namely computers. You're wrong when you say people are looking for performance at 5:03. What 90% of users care about is functionality, the other 10% are gaming kids. Performance and compatibility do contribute to functionality but not as much as most people think. Be it Windows, Apple, Linux or whatever, if it's right for them, then they'll use it. Remember that computers are tools for their jobs. This video is more a demonstration of hardware anyway.
for newer video cards yes, you can have more ram installed (4GB limit on 32 bit systems)
if you video card is dx9.0c or lower your better off 32 bit, but if your card can use dx10, dx10.1 or dx11 i would suggest moving to vista 64 or win 7 64.
in most cases you wont see any speed increase but there are some benefits, for example i use ps2 emulator, i get 45 fps of 60 in windows xp 32 bit using a dx9 gpu plugin, but using win 7 64 bit allows me to use a dx10/11 gpu plugin which gets me full speed 60fps.
it depends much on your hardware tho, if you have a low end video card i would not bother low numbers in a series - NVIDIA 8xxx or 9xxx if its an 8800 or 9800 then yes upgrade, especially if u have 4 gb of ram-32 bit only sees 3.25gb
Its 2010 now and nearly 17 months since you posted this video. And still Windows Vista ultimate x64 is more stable than Windows 7 ultimate x64 in Autocad, Max, Photoshop and generally in games.
I totally aggre with you on the windows 7 64 bit and everything you said in the video was right :)
Been using the rtm for months now and it's never crashed (running it on my mac for games, windows live, cuz windows 7 is awesome and i'll never hate it no matter what apple offers and because it looks attractive) i dont think i mever gonna use xp or vista again xD!
could somebody explain to me what exactly is the so called "GPU accelaration" on Windows 7? it stress much less the CPU? Windows XP didn't have GPU accelaration as well?
idc if your running crisis on lowest settings, having it in the background while doing all that stuff is something i could have never done on vista 64bit SP1, and my set up is a bit better, one less gig of RAM tho

Look for msnmsgr.exe right click, and go to properties. In Compatibility tab, select Windows Vista as the operating system. It will minimize to system tray the next time you open it.

I think 7 is ok just like Vista and XP but honestly I'll stick to those I tried it I felt like I was using my Vista and XP. Any who multi touch on 7 is cool but right now it doesn't seem very useful until theres applications that are critical with multi touch cause I don't sit around only using the multi touch to zoom in and out of pictures ,flip and play games. My vista had 25 aplications open and it didn't slow down. If you like it good for you everyone .BTW you look like a huge anime fan
The only reason Apple is ripping 7 right now because it's gonna hurt their competition. I'm not a fanboy, so you Apple fans stfu. I'm excited for Windows 7. So what if its "DLL hell", "Registry" yada yada, and it's "Vista 2"? They improved a lot in 7 and it don't come close to Vista. Just because something has a lot of the same features don't mean it's another copy. If that's the case, instead of Snow Leopard, call it Leopard 2
Windows 7 is just a much better OS than VISTA but that dosent make it better or more modern than Leopard/Snow leopard that you shuld try on your AMD system. Try to be open minded
i,m running windows7 Ultimate AIO activated and its eye candy!!!!!!! btw wat cam software r u using to record this.and wat media player r u using to play the vids on the left?
Windows 7 is not Vista or XP, it's a whole new breed of OS. It doesn't crash like Vista and is faster than XP or Vista. I planned on spending an hour doing a clean install of the RTM version of 7 and ran the disk, went to the restroom, and came to a computer ready to browse the internet. The 8 minute install is damn scary.
Windows 7 is not a new breed of OS. It's basically a rerelease of Windows Vista under a different name with some UI improvements, fixes, and more polish. That's not to say it's a bad OS.
I love Windows 7 and have been using it for 9 months now, but it's not a completely new OS at all
All windows after NT are still on the NT Kernel just modified, and improved. And yes Windows 7 is vastly improved, and way different. It's not just a slight upgrade. just because it's 6.0 to 6.1 doesn't make it a slight upgrade or just an upgrade. Use it before trying to even say anything. Seriously.. Stop relying on other people's opinions.
and so was 2000 and XP .. , and that can be said for Vista, and Windows 7. But what you have to look at is not just the graphical changes, but everything about it. If you have tried it you will notice a lot of changes. Especially the taskbar come on.. that is a big change right there. If you played around with it long enough you'll see how it feels different. Because if it was the same then people would go back to Vista or XP. There would be no point in moving right?
well ya know you can come up with all the comparison this and that about names or similarities.. but if you haven't tried it for a few months and left it as your main OS then everything else is null. As I've tried it, and many others have tried it.. it's different from Vista, and XP. And knowing is half the battle.
One big difference between Windows 7 and Vista is that I'm running Windows 7 with 1 Gig of ram and still able to multi-task, play games and alt-tab (minimize in game) with no or very little lag; With 1 Gig that's great in my books. Overall 7 even seems faster than XP.
because you haven't tried it that's why you don't know why it's different. But hey it's not my problem because everyone is enjoying the performance, and including the mult touch screen which is amazing for projects. You should look up on the features why Windows 7 sets itself apart from XP, and Vista.
Me again don,t think u remember me but do u think microsoft can out do windows 7. XP was great vista was a ho that wanted more that my PC had. oh REMEMBER PEOPLE OCT 22, 2009
i,m building a new PC the specs are ASROCK N68-N AMD ATHLON X2 2.9 GHZ GEFORCE 8400GS not sure how much ram r the specs any good? wanna complete this by JAN 2010
With all due respect, Windows Vista also has shared memory with the GPU. The overall memory management is very similar. Superfetch is less aggressive in Windows 7, however.
Thank for the video. I appreciate your time and work.
when Microsoft said they were going to improve "multi-tasking" they weren't kidding. now i can play halo 2 and do my research paper at the same time =)
yes it's not like before. X64 is much more compatible now. Especially the PCs out now they are all 64bit so of course they need to have 64bit drivers. Unless you have really really old 32bit hardware then you might be out of luck.
So it took XP Sp3 7 years to gain it's speed while windows 7 can just have a performance update, and it will surpass SP3 especially with DX 11 on board. I think you guys are not seeing the point of Service Packs.
I'm on RTM right now so all I can say it's two thumbs up for me. Everything works flawlessly. Wayyyyyy better then RC, and this video I recorded back in December. Wow it's been that long? Time flies.
read the comment above, and understand what service packs do to OSes. If Sp3 was taken away, and it was just soley XP vs Windows 7 who do you think is faster? Of course Windows 7. Now if it was XP SP3 vs Windows 7 SP3 who do think will be faster? Of course Windows 7. So before you jump to conclusions know what a service pack is before calling me a dumbass.
Nobody is forcing you to move to Windows 7, but times are changing and XP needs to be buried. DX 11 is the future. As Windows 98 was a great OS, and so it was buried when XP came out. As the same when windows 7 will come out to bury XP.
hey which is best for like playing world of warcraft, runescape, call of duty 4 etc... because i was origionally gonna get vista but some people siad that windows 7 works greater
from my experience i would say its not compatible with some game and programs yet... i don't say win7 is bad.... but it must get more updates and fixes.
as WinXP was bad at the beginning and it got better with each new service pack.
and same was with Vista... I think there will be the same old story with Win7
I approved your video, but if you haven't noticed your system is better then mine. Also I ran it with the camera so you can see how smooth it is not because I can't use a screen recorder. Screen recorders have unbelievable lag especially at high res. Nice video by the way.
Also this is an Alpha release Windows 7 not RTM. Then again I have RTM, and I have to agree with all the reviews being said about it "It does beat Vista, and XP". So wait till it comes out, and you'll see what I mean.
I also think it's more usable than XP, have a LOT more new features, but if you have Vista it won't be much different, well it won't eat all your hardware at all and also have some slightly changes. I just hope Windows 8 will have a new kernel and a lot more new improvements.
The only gripe I have with it (the RC1) is my Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer doesn't work under Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 x64. I install the beta drivers for Windows 7 x64 from Creative's website but I still get no sound and it say's the card is not present. So until Creative release some decent drivers for Windows 7 x64 then I'm sticking to Windows XP Pro x64 Edition SP2.

VinceLikesRooster 2 years ago
He was right tho. 7600 runs great ;-)

Dahm you sound stupid.
Windows 7 is just a much better OS than VISTA but that dosent make it better or more modern than Leopard/Snow leopard that you shuld try on your AMD system. Try to be open minded
sismofytter 2 years ago
Calling me stupid kind of contradicts what you just said about being open minded.

Hey where did you have this win7 version?
skullrimer 2 years ago
This is the alpha version that was released
ibuckyi 2 years ago
For college students who can't afford windows 7. You can go here to buy it for 30 dollars. Win741 com instead of 120 dollars
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Windows 7 is not Vista or XP, it's a whole new breed of OS. It doesn't crash like Vista and is faster than XP or Vista. I planned on spending an hour doing a clean install of the RTM version of 7 and ran the disk, went to the restroom, and came to a computer ready to browse the internet. The 8 minute install is damn scary.
zimtower 2 years ago
Windows 7 is not a new breed of OS. It's basically a rerelease of Windows Vista under a different name with some UI improvements, fixes, and more polish. That's not to say it's a bad OS.
I love Windows 7 and have been using it for 9 months now, but it's not a completely new OS at all
SSEi02 2 years ago
Fuck it's not, since Windows Vista is based on the Kernel NT 6.0 and Windows 7 is based on the Kernel NT 6.1, how can they be so different?
Search MinWin on YouTube, and remember that MinWin has NOT been implemented in Windows 7.
Listen carefully to that guy, and notice what he thinks about their current kernel.
iHateDlls 2 years ago
All windows after NT are still on the NT Kernel just modified, and improved. And yes Windows 7 is vastly improved, and way different. It's not just a slight upgrade. just because it's 6.0 to 6.1 doesn't make it a slight upgrade or just an upgrade. Use it before trying to even say anything. Seriously.. Stop relying on other people's opinions.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
I know. What about OS X? They release a new version every time the x of 10.x changes. But Apple at least call it Mac OS X... Tiger/Leopard.
The point is that Vista and 7 are too similar, inside and outside.
That's why 7 should be called Vista 2.
iHateDlls 2 years ago
and so was 2000 and XP .. , and that can be said for Vista, and Windows 7. There would be no point in moving right?
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Do you see OSX changing their taskbar each upgrade? like overhauling the actual taskbar in one upgrade? NO
ibuckyi 2 years ago
My bad.. the DOCK
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Yes. They added Expose (kinda a dock function) in 10.3, Dashboard in 10.4, 3D dock in 10.5 and 10.6 was all about the kernel.
iHateDlls 2 years ago
It's all about the name.
Windows 2000 was completely different than XP: new name, alright.Same story with Windows XP and VIsta.
but someone's gonna think that 7 is just as different as vista was than XP, because the name is new.
thats not fair. it'd be called windows vista 2.0
iHateDlls 2 years ago
well ya know you can come up with all the comparison this and that about names or similarities.. but if you haven't tried it for a few months and left it as your main OS then everything else is null. As I've tried it, and many others have tried it.. it's different from Vista, and XP. And knowing is half the battle.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
beside the taskbar and bigger icons, where are the differences? maybe i dont know them.
iHateDlls 2 years ago
One big difference between Windows 7 and Vista is that I'm running Windows 7 with 1 Gig of ram and still able to multi-task, play games and alt-tab (minimize in game) with no or very little lag; With 1 Gig that's great in my books. Overall 7 even seems faster than XP.
MegaEfex 2 years ago
because you haven't tried it that's why you don't know why it's different.

DayGhost1000 2 years ago
better then mine lol.. it should be great I recommend 4 gigs of ram and x64 windows 7
ibuckyi 2 years ago
thats all i needed. On with the build. Wait how long does a duel core amd last?
DayGhost1000 2 years ago
With all due respect, Windows Vista also has shared memory with the GPU. The overall memory management is very similar. Superfetch is less aggressive in Windows 7, however.
Thank for the video. I appreciate your time and work.

when Microsoft said they were going to improve "multi-tasking" they weren't kidding. now i can play halo 2 and do my research paper at the same time =)

Is it easy to find x64 drivers for Windows 7?
duelistxistenz 2 years ago
yes it's not like before. X64 is much more compatible now. Especially the PCs out now they are all 64bit so of course they need to have 64bit drivers. Unless you have really really old 32bit hardware then you might be out of luck.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Win 7 is tested and he is much slower than xp sp3!!!!!! Stop the crap.....
Braca982 2 years ago
So it took XP Sp3 7 years to gain it's speed while windows 7 can just have a performance update, and it will surpass SP3 especially with DX 11 on board. I think you guys are not seeing the point of Service Packs.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
And also please Google Windows 7 RTM vs XP Sp3 and tell me where it shows Windows 7 being slower then XP Sp3?
ibuckyi 2 years ago
just type in google "windows 7 slower than xp"
But, windows 7 is new, he have bigger support, and so on....
Braca982 2 years ago
Or you can do benchmark test on various games on xp and win7 , one thing is sure.... win7 is 1000* better than vista
Braca982 2 years ago
Either way Windows 7 will bury both OS. Microsoft is favoring Windows 7 so XP is done.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
you are right about that, no one says diferent....
Braca982 2 years ago
I'm on RTM right now so all I can say it's two thumbs up for me. Everything works flawlessly. Wayyyyyy better then RC, and this video I recorded back in December. Wow it's been that long? Time flies.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Zzz wat a crap video, you actually tested this by opening videos and a game? xp does this with ease too...
Scaarj 2 years ago
But XP is an old dinosaur so time to get with the times.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
so to get with the times we go slower??? wtf are you saying you dumass!
driverg2g 2 years ago
read the comment above, and understand what service packs do to OSes. If Sp3 was taken away, and it was just soley XP vs Windows 7 who do you think is faster? Of course Windows 7. Now if it was XP SP3 vs Windows 7 SP3 who do think will be faster? Of course Windows 7. So before you jump to conclusions know what a service pack is before calling me a dumbass.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Nobody is forcing you to move to Windows 7, but times are changing and XP needs to be buried. DX 11 is the future. As Windows 98 was a great OS, and so it was buried when XP came out. As the same when windows 7 will come out to bury XP.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
hey which is best for like playing world of warcraft, runescape, call of duty 4 etc... because i was origionally gonna get vista but some people siad that windows 7 works greater
darktidus1031 2 years ago
wait till windows 7 comes out in October. There is really no point in getting Vista anymore.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
i'm using windows 7 for 2 months now, and there's no way coming back to WinXP....
Just a question: what's these animes you showed us? I've just regonized FF: Last Order....the other 2, which are they?
valteenct 2 years ago
running also w7 64bit, have tried vista 64bit, and so far, it is the best os. Better than xp, and much better than vista.
mrgamer81 2 years ago
so is it safe to say Microsoft listened to the gamers and made Win 7 a gaming OS or a Performance OS?
DayGhost1000 2 years ago
both, and with direct x 11 on board it's going to be a killer on the new hardware that supports it.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
from my experience i would say its not compatible with some game and programs yet... i don't say win7 is bad.... but it must get more updates and fixes.
as WinXP was bad at the beginning and it got better with each new service pack.
and same was with Vista... I think there will be the same old story with Win7
alextm86 2 years ago
by the way you almost killed me when u said rotating wallpapers.......
alextm86 2 years ago
I approved your video, but if you haven't noticed your system is better then mine. Also I ran it with the camera so you can see how smooth it is not because I can't use a screen recorder. Screen recorders have unbelievable lag especially at high res. Nice video by the way.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
Also this is an Alpha release Windows 7 not RTM. Then again I have RTM, and I have to agree with all the reviews being said about it "It does beat Vista, and XP". So wait till it comes out, and you'll see what I mean.
ibuckyi 2 years ago
your video is incredable
darktidus1031 2 years ago
thx dude i needed this video update
DayGhost1000 2 years ago
yea i have it it is cool
vertibirdsoldier 2 years ago
Windows 7 is definately an improvement comparing with Vista and XP...
But I think they should improve a bit more the looks of the UI!
sergiogon 2 years ago
So what would you change at the UI?
I also think it's more usable than XP, have a LOT more new features, but if you have Vista it won't be much different, well it won't eat all your hardware at all and also have some slightly changes. I just hope Windows 8 will have a new kernel and a lot more new improvements.
TheMaggot81 2 years ago
The only gripe I have with it (the RC1) is my Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer doesn't work under Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 x64. I install the beta drivers for Windows 7 x64 from Creative's website but I still get no sound and it say's the card is not present. So until Creative release some decent drivers for Windows 7 x64 then I'm sticking to Windows XP Pro x64 Edition SP2.
