  • makes me laugh

  • @EMPIRE01233 then why my friend are we still here

  • 3:48 almost brings tears to my eyes.

  • what is the scene number that this is from on the dvd?

  • @sesselover1988 26 I think.

  • It is understood that there was a sack of potato's and a bottle of whiskey at stake for this epic charge into doom......

  • To think, the Irish came over and where treated like shit, they were poor, had crappy jobs and only a hundered years later the greatest president was an Irishmen.

  • @skatepunkzero

the greatest president wasn't Kennedy. What made you think that? and I'll disagree with you calling Policemen and Firemen as "crappy jobs"

  • @Rao665 The greatest President in the 20th Century the greatest was Thomas Jefferson. As for Irish being Policemen and Firemen very very few where in the 1800s, most Irish had to work in the meet packing plants and the slaughter houses or construction very few were ever Police or firemen. As for Kennedy because he has been the only President in the 20th Century who didn't want large Government and wanted to End the Federal Reserve.

  • @skatepunkzero "The greatest President in the 20th Century the greatest was Thomas Jefferson" Idiot, Thomas Jefferson was never a President in the 20th Century. you need to learn to type coherent sentences. And Kennedy, where the fuck did you pull that information from!?!? He INCREASED our involvement in Vietnam, and do you know what he did to the Federal Reserve? He NATIONALIZED IT. Look up executive order 11110 in regards to JFK and the Feds. Stop talking through your ass.

  • @Rao665 I didn't say Thomas Jefferson was the Greatest President in the 20th Century, I said Thomas Jefferson was the greatest of all time, I said Kennedy was the greatest in the 20th Century LEARN TO FUCKING READ DUMBASS! Also I have read Executive Order 11110 it was to return power to the Teasury Department to issue Silver Certificates, thats why Kennedy was killed. Maybe you should LEARN TO FUCKING READ AND STOP TALKING THROUGH YOUR ASS!

  • @skatepunkzero Learn to fucking SPELL DUMBASS! DO i need to quote you again DUMBASS: "The greatest President in the 20th Century the greatest was Thomas Jefferson"

As for executive order 11110 it was a nationalization of banks...a GROWTH in the US Government. and Kennedy GREW the US involvement in Vietnam as well. Maybe your should learn to fucking read and stop capitalizing everything because well...it makes you irrelevant. Especially with a douchebag name of "skatepunkzero."

  • @skatepunkzero Did you learn about Kennedy from your grandmommy?

  • @Rao665 Dude stop trolling and go else where, I can tell your just here looking for an argument and are trying to provoke me.

  • @skatepunkzero

"Dude" i'm not trolling. I'm asking you how you somehow believe Kennedy was our greatest President of the 20th century.

  • @skatepunkzero

and Yes, the majority of Irishmen became Policemen and Firemen during the late 19th early 20th century.

  • I seen someone ask what movie this is from, its from a movie called Gods and Generals. Very good movie.

  • what film is this from??

  • Great video!

  • Go Irish!!! That particular stand made by the Irish Brigade on that bloody day was one of the greatest and most courageous exploits/military feats during the entire Civil War! For the Irish sustained this nearly 80% casualty rate, and in reality they got closer to that formidable wall than any other Union regiment that assaulted Maryne's Heights that day. No doubt they were some of the best, bravest, toughest and most ferocious soldiers on the planet back then! Taylor Ahern, Squantum Mass.!

  • @sxlfkta The Irish Brigade was also the most under strength brigade to charge the heights that day. And getting the closest to the wall (20 yards?) is really saying something. Though sources I've looked through can't seem to agree on how many men they had. it's either 1,200 or 1,700.

  • No Empire, we didn't beat them in 1812. However, we pushed the subject in 1918 (after they and the French, Germans and all were close too done) and certainly kept the Union from adopting the German language in the 1940's...and the US, fighting on two fronts. The Brits are becoming like the French..sad.

  • I haven't got a clue what you are talking about, With a name like Garry Owen shouldn't you be a Welshman? Where in heavens you think it's Irish I do not know....

  • Maybe you should ask John Adams who resided in it in 1801!Dumbass!

  • Easy now, easy... It's quite ok to have a post-traumatic stress reaction after losing such an Empire... We all understand that such a catastrophe may leave some people still weeping after 40-50 years after the collapse... XD

  • You didn't win the war of 1812, it was a draw. Besides, the reason we didn't take Canada because the American soldiers only wanted to defend their homes, not invade another country. Stupid arrogant brit thinking you know everything. Sure the United States got their ass handed to them in the beginning, but we continue to live on. Now get off of youtube, no one wants to hear you opinion

  • @pukemonger1 "Didn't want to take Canada" Where did you learn your History?

You tried to take Canada in 1775. you lost, and a British counter-offensive took place. Washington wanted to unite Canada and the U.S into one country... Stop trying to tell lies as to make your country "Look better" Because denying history just makes you look pathetic.

  • @pukemonger1 Respond to this video...Oh, and you didn't mention the United States, France, Spain, and the Dutch Republic Drew with the British empire in the end ;) You know, when France was so needy to defeat the British empire at this point that it sent the country into Bankruptc, and the French revolution.

  • Study the battle, arse-wipe. The Irish didn't "go in first" at Fredericksburg, or Antietam, or Gettysburg, or Cold Harbor, or any other CW battle. You also didn't "kill us" in 1812 either.

  • U stupid Brit shut ur mouth.

u Brits were battered twice out of USA ha ha

  • strange how these irish left because of a tyrant England to come to america to die for another tyrant and person THAT WOULD HAVE KILLED EVERYONE TO MAINTAIN HIS KINGDOM_"To preserve the union,I would not free a single slave"Abraham Lincoln-bloody insane tyrant-economics would have ended slavery

  • Never seen such courage in the face of enemy fire, the Irish Brigade reflected upon themselves and the United States Army.

  • Bloody hell.. they were all Irish..

  • My dear this is sad , you may have some kind of tie to this however war is so very sad no matter what.

    Love And Light

    Cheryl

  • 5*****!

    Thanks for sharing,2bbgunsup!

  • good video...

  • You call us rebels and traitors,

But you have thrown off the name of late.

Yon were called it by the English invaders

At home in seventeen and ninety-eight

When they met with the Irish Brigade, me boys!

When they met with the Irish Brigade

    Didn't those Lincolnites tremble

When they met the Irish Brigade

  • typically irish we fought the worlds wars for them.watch tommy tiernans clip its so true.such a tragedy though

  • the irish made up an extremely small portion of the men that fought that war, you didn't fight it for us.

  • i didnt mean literally i meant the irish have a reputation of fighting for other countries

  • Regardless of their actual numbers, which were greater than YOU may think, the Irish who fought in the American Civil War did so with distinction, and their impact is and was acknowledged both by modern historians and military men of the day. It's said that while witnissing the surrender at Appomattox, a Confederate officer told a Union officer, "You only won because you had more Irish than we did".

  • its a shame modern day irish hate america.ireland today is loaded with thosands of asylum seekers.the irish brigade are rolling over in thier grave.

  • ive seen the film gods and generals, exellent. gonna try and find a good book on the american civil war,i find this really interesting. class vid.

  • I wish i was with my great great great grandpa when he was in the 20th main on top of little round top in gettiesburg

  • Faugh a Ballah! Erin Go Braugh!

  • man, I should have been there, with my Irish brothers.

  • god... just beautiful. amazing movie. personally gettysburg is still my favorite.

i hate you :| you cut off the part where they cheer their bravery

  • andersonville is my personal favorite and just below that is Gettysburg and Gods and Generals.

  • the people of the south were from ulster scots origins the americans seem to have forgotten that and have embraced the idea that the only irish in america are those who emimegrated during the 1800s usa needs to remember who helped bulid their country when it was first setteled

  • wow way to bring it to the climax and not show the best damn part of this whole scene when the other irish start cheering for the union irish i mean come on

  • yea don't worry, "longrinoa" is workin on it, she/he said it could be a while.

  • There won't be a new video...

  • Oh well, that sucks then.

  • he's a jerk then..

  • Yes, indeed, this scene was about the 28th. They were the only ones with a Tiffany Flag that day. I was there for the filming and in true Hollyweird style, they had the Irish come down and then filmed the 20th Maine scene. The next week the 20th Maine re-enactors came from all over the US and were told that they are doing the Irish. There was only two 28th Mass. re-enactors in that scene. One carried the flag.

  • the 116th i believe also had their green flag.

  • The 116th REFUSED to carry an Irish flag.

  • why?

  • It is still under debate if the 116th ever even recieved a green flag to refuse.

  • Correct.......I've been looking and I can't make the distinction. Lore has it as refused, facts may indicate otherwise. I'm still checking the books.

  • It think it's the 29th Mass (An Old Yankee Regiment) refused the Green Flag when they were in the Irish Brigade. They were swapped for the All-Irish 28th Mass in December, 1862

  • this part brings a tear to the eye...

  • well it isn't really an irish custom, they cheer/salute the 69th New York cuz they're also irish, and both sides didn't wish to fight their own countrymen. Yah that's a real good scene, but its your descision, im just askin' for a favor.

  • Yeah, they are irish. I know the irish made up the majority of forigners fighting in the US Army, not only during the Civil War. I also know that scandinavians (as well as other nationalities)ended up, firing at eachother like this in the Civil War. So this scene is really representative, not only for the Brave Irishmen, but also for the immense suffering of killing ones own countrymen.

I'll see what I can do with the cheerscene, but it would take lots of time to put it in.

  • I like the whole scene, except the saulte in the end. Because it sounds strange to me. Or is it an irish custom? Because I'm from Sweden, and we dont cheer like that. But it is a great scene anyways.

  • Wait a second...Irishmen fighting other irishmen???

  • Yes it is :(

  • ARGH

  • i agree with plat.. that is what makes he fredericksburg scene near best

  • great video, but what u missed is when the 24th Georgia (Confederate Irish) cheer/salute the 69th New York like right after you video ends that's a really good part. so can you like put another video w/ dat included? plz

  • The union regiment shown is not the 69th New York, its the 28th Massachusetts. The soldiers shown are wearing Massachusetts issue haversacks and if you listen at 00:52 you can hear "Move it 28th, keep moving!".

    Just my 2 cents worth.

  • Well then they have the same flag. cuz i saw "tribute to the irish brigade and it shows the flag and it says 69th new york. well its a brigade and not a regiment so it could be both.

  • They do have the same flag, except that on the top banner on the flag it says 1st regt, 2nd regt; 3rd regt and 4th 4 regt. The 1st regiment is the 69th NY. The 4th regiment is the 28th Mass. A brigade is a group of 3,4 or 5 regiments.

The streamers at the top of the pole will say which regiment and state the Irish were from.

  • The 28th Mass was the only regiment that had the Green Flag since the three NY Regiments sent their torn Green flags home for replacement. Gen .Meagher apparently ordered a 4th Green flag since Massachusetts' Governor Andrew was as raising a Irish regiment that would eventually join his brigade.
