@mcnesta80 I reckon Jonty is the best ever. Ponting is the next closet because he can catch brilliantly, he is quick in the field, and he throws down the stumps regularly. But Jonty is still #1. Collingwood and Gibbs are both good, but they both have areas of weakness.

@xratedcheese De Villiers was a great run out but it was flukey. This guy is talking about the technique involved in that run out of Pontings when he says its the best. I'd compare De Villiers runout to a massive slog over midwicket that goes out of the ground, and Ponting's to a perfectly executed cover drive. Both are awesome, which is better is a matter of personal preference.

No, he's just a really good fielder - even colly is better.

I personally think the only reason he's such a good fielder is that he has had the time to actually train. If he didn't, he wouldnt be. It isn't a natural skill, it's one he's worked on. So good job, privelliged punta.
