  • this is excellent craftsmanship !! how mulch did it cost to build it?

  • EXCELLENT CRAFTSMANSHIP !!!!

  • I have to say, I'm very impressed! I've had the idea of making a violin for six months and I'm hoping to do it now in the summer (or at least get started on it). I went to speak to a luthier to ask his advice, and he basically told me not to bother, but you've inspired me not to give up! What was that you used for bending the ribs? Also the gauge at 4:31 is fascinating - did you make it yourself? thanks for posting the vid.

  • this piece makes me cry, especially after having a 7hr straight rehearsal for a play (and doing badly...)

  • Nice job. Nice pics! Thank you!

  • Good job! Now try to get into an apprenticeship

with a good US maker or go to violin school.I

once made a classical guitar, and thought there

are numerous schools of lutherie of guitar, the

violin is where it's at! Cheers and Good Luck!

  • this is wonderful.. im hoping to make my first one soon. thank you for posting this

  • Outstanding job.

  • That is extraordinary, well done.

  • Most important: What does it sound like?

  • Not too Bright Not too Dark and very responsive with very high regestry. I've had a few proffesional violinist's try it out and they love the sound. One lady wanted to trade me for her 200 + year old violin, lol. But it's my first violin so I can't bring myself to give it up. I just got done making my second one and sounds almost as good as the first. The craftmanship has deffinately improved though. I am now selling them and taking orders if any one wants one.

  • That's a fantastic effort. Well done! I wish more young people today werw like you. I myself am starting my first violin shortly. I hope to make it into a wonderful hobby. I was inspired by Nicolo Amati. Who was your inspration for making violins?

  • my grandfather and i are making a violin.... do have any tips?.... about how much did you spend? bye the way, very nice instrument you made there.

  • Thank You,I spent around $500 for all the wood and tools which in't bad at all;I thout it would be closer to $1000.A few tipps I have are make sure your tools are extremely sharp because you will make 10 times mare mistakes with dull ones, and shapening them just once is't enough continuer to sharpen them through the process. One other Bit of advise Take your dear old time, don't rush any thing. Good Luck making it and when you finnish it please poast a picture or some thing so I can see it.

  • Oh yeah and when You Varnish Don't do what I did Brush side ways against the grain, it turns out soo much better. I will be posting a vid of my 2nd violin soon and you can see the difference in quality; I am very pleased.

  • Hey, I'm glad to see you following through all the steps of this very complicated project. That's inspiring! It's a beautiful instrument, hope it gives you years of pleasure.

  • super :)

  • Do you play? I have a few patterns also if your looking for a better pattern.I would suggest Maggini. The neck is not as wide.

I have built 3 fiddles or violins, not as nice looking as yours. Looks to me like you have done a good job.

I am impressed. Are they for sell? If so send an email to me on my channel and give me some information. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Oh and one last thing, you are very correct, one can do anything when they put their mind to it.

  • I'm a professional luthier and you make ernormous mistake in the making of your instrument.

  • Could you make a more constructive comment as on what where the mistakes made please?

  • Yes, Contructive Critisism is welcome; not destructive critisism. By the way learn how to spell before you make fun of others.

  • Dont get a job, make a school you are too much gifted to ruin your talent...

  • IF....you actually did this yourself, you are some kind of technical prodigy. If you want some real steady income learn to clean and repair old watches...like pocket watches and vintage wrist watches. You won't become a millionaire but you will always have work. I am an instrument repairman and a watch maker.

  • No, Believe me I am not a prodigy but I think that you can really do anything if you set your mind to it. I have been working with wood for a good portion of my childhood so as a result it came almost second nature. Don't get me wrong,it was a challenge.I would love to have my own Violin shop or work for a violin shop one day;but right now I'm just trying to earn some money.

  • Absolutely fantastic, I'm speechless. Well done!!!

  • I have been a violin restorer (professionally) for over twenty years.

That is a truly remarkable and ambitious project for anyone. Well done!

I can't tell much about the violin itself from the (enjoyable) presentation you provide, so I can offer no real technical advice.

You may wish to consider a violin making school. You seem to have talent and passion, and you need more that a Cremona violin as a pattern.

Once again, You have accomplished something remarkable. Well done.

  • Hey thanks, I would love to to school by right now I'm trying to get a job, lol.

I wish I could of got my hands on a better violin for a model but oh well. I'm glad to get an opinion from a professional. Again,Thanks.

  • Wow! what in the world got into your cats head? LOL. crazy.

  • Catnip. I just had to wonder what he suddenly needed up the stairs.

Good luck with the job hunt. Perhaps a violin repair shop would have you.

  • dude that is amazing. I want to eventually make an electric violin until I can get enough to get an Electric one from Wood violins. but that's really cool what you did with the chin rest.

  • pretty amazing

  • You are really talented!

  • Thank you

  • and do you know an estimately how much is the total cost of all the tools/items/knives/varnishes etc. for making the violin...in $US Dollars ??

  • It costed approximately $500

I got most of my supplies from Metropolitan music Co.

All I can say is go for it man it's definately worth it.

  • how many years have you practice/studied violin making till today?

oh wow...500$ only... O.o thats pretty cheap i think ...

  • I studied it for about a month,no practice.

I already had half tools cuz I built a little

    wooden box but thats it.

  • The description to the right of the vid will answer some of your questions.

  • the one peice back did cost more than it would to get a two piece but I like the 1 piece look better personally. I think the only real challenging part was carving the scroll, but if you dont feel confident in your carving skills I recomend you get a pre-carved scroll. I'm 17 by the way.

  • o.o... how old are u?

    look like 20s...

    anyways nice work there! =)

i wanna learn to make the violin to as a hobby ^_^
