It is an amazing kick and is a tea kwon do kick for the few saying it's not martial arts have mixed backgrounds so moves are similar and it's show but could be used in a fight if timed right iv got a friend iv seen use it very effectively practical no but it did work all the best keep safe
@frrface practically, it does not do much in a fight, on the mat or the street, it is more of an exhibition kick, stick to the basics and ull be okay.

because i've never seen a very muscular guy or a chubby guy perform such a move(unles jean claude vandamme but thats a midget he's only 1m57 or somethin)
only guys between 120 and 135 pounds because gravity in jumping is such an isue
the less you weight the more you can train to jump higher the longer air time you get to perform this fancy moves

@LethalGunner99 Flexibility and practicing basic jumping kicks. That is the secret to getting height on jumps: The whole body moves to clear an obstacle (to do this you need flexibility). So, stretch stretch stretch. When you can kick your head height and hold it there, then start to add jumps into it, then you should be able to do this and more. Hope this helps. : )
i REALLY need help on my 540 kick....ive been working on it for months and have made almost no progression whatsoever. ive never been able to keep my non kicking leg in the air while my kicking leg is coming over (or trying to :P) and my non kicking leg always lands back on the ground before i can get my kicking leg around at all....not sure why its so hard for me to fix what im doing wrong, so far i havent heard of anyone facing the same problem, so any (ANY) help at all is appreciated
Well i don't know the name of this kick in Wushu, Ballet or Hip-Hop, but in TAEKWONDO it's called butterfly kick (american name) and it's a 360º kick, because in Taekwondo we count angles properly. Start to count when you jump and stop when you kick... just pay attention to the move, the guy start with right leg in front, do a whole spin (360º) and kick... it doens't matter how many spins he does BEFORE the jump or AFTER the kick, they won't count.
um, no it's not, a butterfly kick is, was and always has been a wushu kick that is nothing like this, I've NEVER heard of that being called a butterfly kick.
This is a 540, despite any 'angled technicalities', it is a 540.
Very cool! I wouldn't bother though unless you are in it for show. Any Martial Artist worth their salt knows that aerials are always a bad idea! Even as a finishing move, you sacrifice footing and control. Plus as a rule Martial Artists are expected to attempt 3 things during a fight. 1. Kick. 2. Block. 3. Attempt a crazy ill-fated aerial that they have little chance of actually landing.
My advice, keep kicks waist level and go balls out on elbows and punches and learn to fight on the ground. Because 9 times out of 10, that's were the fight will end up!
its a 540 because of the end. he doesnt spin before he does the kick its after were the 540 differs from the 360. notice that his front foot, the kicking foot, lands in the back. thus it is more than a 360...
yeah that makes sense. This looks like a normal crescent kick to me. Maybe he could do combos, or that double kick that in WTF brown or blue belts do really well. It's like a reverse crescent to crescent jumping kick. Of course that really isn't the name I think.
actually our Doubles, triples and quads start off alot of combos... like i would do a quad to get 3 or 4 four points if im good then go for the knockout with the 540...but it is a 540 lol i hate this controversy between Americans vs the rest of the Tae kwon do world
um if anyone is there and i think most of u r in tae kwon do so um im testin tomrw and i need to know wat a hair throw is and a mountain strike and wat a hair throw is someone pleassssssssse help
actually the koreans have all three the 360 is normally low but can be thrown high...the other two are high section surprise kicks that are thrown when the opponent is charging lol i cant do that....the 720 however is not normally used in fight today they are more or less just for show IE: board breaking:)...but either i have a love for this sport
im talking to friggin kalub, i was talking to someone else so fuck you and read around before you mouthin off to people you dont fucking know fucker, oh and dip-shit
ok....so you are saying....that this Caleb guy.....is going to look specifically at YOUR COMMENT on this video....among...56 comments .... now considering this isn't his account i think you are wasting your "valuable " time ...if you don't know shit get it out of your mouth... go back and watch the video again you blue-belted fuck....
I think this kick is a 360 in korean terms, and that is how things should be calculated since it's their art. But since Americans count it as 540, you could see the 540 title for reference sake. I made a mistake earlier and clarified for the wrong thing it should be "540 and 360" not "720 and 540" The 720 american / 540 korean would be done if this guy hook kicked with left leg before landing on the right like he did on this video.
not necessarily, i was trained by a korean who is a 7th degree blackbelt completely trained in korea before he moved to america and he called this a 540 tornado kick!
Maybe he was noticed that that was what it was called here, and referenced it so the majority people would understand. You can't single out one person to base your judgement on. Ask the rest of the natives to see what it is called.
i don't know what it's called there, but all the koreans i talk to around here call it a 540. and atleast half of the koreans i know did grow up in korea.
It makes natural sense. Since they live in America now, they use the system that is widely accepted here. If you ask them their weight, they would tell you it in pounds and not kilos. Likewise, if you go to Korea, you would convert your weight into kilos so they can understand better. I'm not trying to debunk anything here, I'm just letting you know. Take a look at some of the videos of national team members from Korea if you're curious.
im sure i know more bout tkd than you concidering i actually am in tkd and am to be a black belt in friggin 4 months so fuck you alexl0923, dont go talkin shit to peole you dont fucking know

alright, im sorry about that, its just ya know that felling ya get when you feel really aggitated, well sometimes thats how i get, and sorry about all the things i said i had no call
this is not a taekwondo kick. at least not if you practice the traditional taekwondo after kwon jae hwa. and i suspect that no WTF school would teach you this as tkd...
but it shows a high level of training and i bow my head in respect for your skill.
You're right.... if it was only a 360 he would have landed on the leg he wasnt kicking with.
He did a one and a half rotations because his kicking leg started at the back, whipped around and then landed on it which then become the front leg in the opposite stance.
He sure could have, but this is a smarter way to teach imo. He's breaking everything down, step by step, prereq by prereq. If you really wanna learn how to master your 540 you'll watch all of the videos, and drill each one. Instead of, watching the actual 540 at the end and trying to MIMICK it. You don't really learn anything by skipping the basics. It will haunt u in the end. :)
