  • Wicca has been around for 50 years, witchcraft and the worship of nature has been around much longer.

  • There are days/nights of the dead in many cultures around the world in both christian and pre christian rites. Paying respect to the ancestors has always been important to humans. Witchcraft rather than wicca has also been around for at least as long. Pumpkins don't really bother me but I think as witches or wiccans we have to consider the impact of cultural appropriation.

  • Hey!! could you tell me the name of the song?? I'm searching good Samhain songs, but they are hard to find!

  • The first one is "Worship" by Goran Bregovic (ends 2:33). I don't know the name of the second track, but if you'll send me a PM with your email, I will send both song to you, if you want :)

  • Im so looking forward to it :)

I'm planning on doing a ritual too.

    wehay.

  • Blessings be, tiocaidh ar la, any man or woman who celebrates and supports irish celebrations of the mother of ireland is a friend of ireland.

  • Samhain is a sacred time. A sacred Ritual!! You discredit Celtic rites, Wiccan rites, and the sanctity of the Harvest Cellibration. SHAME ON YOU!!!

  • Everyone has a different opinion. Maybe I "discredit" it because I'm affected by celtic and wiccan traditions.I know, that Samhain is sacred.I celebrate it as a sacred feast. But I'm not a PURE wiccan, celt or whatever people are.I'm a mix of few traditions, and it's just MY WAY to express what I feel, believe in or think.

  • And I know, if I say "there's not enough samhain pictures on net, but mostly just halloween crap with pumpkins" isn't an apology for me,but it's true. But I want to thank you for your comment, how you represented what you are thinking.

I hope you understand what I wanted to say. I'm sorry for making you angry. Have a nice day :-)

  • @spankysassygirl

Get over yourself. Wicca is only a little over 50 years old and we have little or no documentation concerning Celtic pagan rites. As for a harvest celebration, you are thinking of Lammas or Lughnasadh. Samhain marked the end of the light half of the year and the beginning of the dark half. It's main purpose was to mark the beginning of the slaughter of livestock for winter.

  • @av949 wicca as its know now is fairly new but the religion of it goes back before christianity so saying its only 50 years old is wrong

  • @TheKithkhan

No, the religion is only about 50 years old. There is no evidence of a universal goddess religion in Europe or otherwise. Gardner synthesized it by combining elements of the Golden Dawn, Thelema, easter thought, and the common historical misconceptions of his time. Namely, the idea of unified cult in Pagan Europe.

Myths have their uses. So long as you realize they're just useful fictions.

  • @av949 my ancestors were worshipping mother nature or the goddess hundreds of years ago in what is now ireland

  • @TheKithkhan

For one thing, a mere few hundred years ago - Ireland was called Ireland and largely Protestant/Catholic like today. If you want to convince people that your 23 times great grandfather was an arch-druid - you want to aim for the vicinity thousands of years ago.

I wouldn't make a claim at all since NEXT TO NOTHING is known about Iron Age Celtic theology. You'll just look like a liar and an idiot. Especially to people like myself with Irish lineage who actually do proper research.

  • very nice mysterious, haunting very gothic
