yes.. vikram won national award in that year.. but.. not to say vikram din act well.. he also performed well.. but when comparing the story,the message,and the performance of kamal.. this movie is 1000 times better.. but pithamagan was a hit becoz of one thing, which was missing in anbe sivam.. masala... dun worry.. in another 20 years people will realize that masala is unnecessary.. but it'll be to late.. :(

Pithamaghan might have been a hit because of the comedy element which was inserted in a way that didn't seem out of place, but nothing can take away the fact that Vikram's performance was mind blowing. God I've never ever been so disconcerted by one character so much as I was after watching Vikrams character in Pithamagan. Maybe DeNiro in Cape Fear, Ledger in TDK and some others as well but yea it left me really shaken.
