i was on amitripylene for over a year and never got any "reactions". as with ANY medication or food, people get different reactions. it's written on the info sheet that comes with it.
@thorkyll I don't think there are any reactions with food unless the person has an UNHEALTHY reaction to it like an allergy. when it comes to medication the medication is causing the unwanted negative reaction. and putting psych drugs in the same realm as ANY medications I feel is wrong. You don't get numbness on one side of the body, hairloss, bruising, muscle pain, pounding heartbeats, feeling like you might pass out, etc, etc like you do with Amitriplyne.
Excedrin Acetaminophen/Aspirin/Caffeine 250/250/65 1 - 4 a day.

have an answer for you. It might seem like a cop-out but everyone is, of course, different. The key lies in getting the help to find what drives you to do those things. -Or in your case what is causing you to feel those emotions. Whether your problem is nutrition, excersise and a regular lifestyle with minimal stress or seeing a life coach or counselor (of any denomination) or reading self help books that speak to you. I hope you don't lose hope and find the right solution for YOU.
@TheInbornMechanics Hi and thanks for your message. I can emathize with you. I used to have a real problem with alcohol and would have been considered an alocholic (not in control of my consumption as basically defined by AA) and did fit most of the symptoms for the problem. As most people aggree, alochol is just another drug and create a dependancy and used to 'solve' other problems in life. The problems we hide by using the drug still exist whether we take it or not. Unfortunately I do not..
I was prescirbed this due to a brain injury. It caused me to lose my balance and fall constantly. It didnt help my headaches and i went off of it. I had to visit the ER due to severe chest pain and irregular heartbeat caused by the drug.
i have been recently prescribe this at 10 mg to help with my stomach and abdominal pain but it's inronic my whole stitutation started in october 2009 after a bad reaction to an antibiotic called macrobd. I was just 3 days into using that antibiotic and i never experienced this kind of pain and it has not let up all the docs were like it's depressing and anxieity. I was angry and confused one minute i had a normal eating habitut and now it's 2011 i feel like shit have lost 35 pounds
@fredguy2 i can relate, i have very bad stomach pain for the past 7 months and i've lost 30 pounds, very skinny now because I cant eat so they are going to try 10mg or something of this on me. I really hope it works.. Im losing like 2 pounds every week.
The reaction of an medication is alway individually. If you are suffering from some badass neuropathic disorder/pain, its worth a try. You cant say its a safe drug, no drugs is 100% safe. You cant say this drug is shit and should not be used, cause its actually helping some people. But i cant undestand doctors who give this to children. Small little children who cant understand whats happening to them.
BS. One in a million?? Check my other videos and do your homework. I'm glad it works for you.. but there are plently of similar examples. Your case particulars are very relavant. How long have you been on it, dosage, reason for prescription, etc. Anyway, if one guy comes forward and is interviewed about it that make him the one in a million? Pff completely arbitrary speculation based on...what??
@sebkarlsson Been on it 7 years, dosage 75-125mg at night daily, reason for prescription anxiety/depression. Only negative side effect=slightly dry mouth in the morning, especially after exercise, this lasts 30mins and is not a problem. Positive effects, reduces anxiety, improves appetite, improves sleep, increases appreciation of music.
Amytriptyline has been around a very long time, and it is very unusual for it to cause problems, this guy is probably just trying to sue out of greed.
@Corrupt5358 Again, glad it's working for you but that has nothing to do with this guy and countless others. side effects include seizures, tinnitus, hypotension, mania, psychosis, sleep paralysis, hypnagogia, hypnopompia, heart block, arrhythmias, lip and mouth ulcers, extrapyramidal symptoms, depression, tingling pain or numbness in the feet or hands, yellowing of the eyes or skin,

@XforeverlongingX "just depends on the dosage and health/age"... if it was that simple they would be able to predict the outcome then wouldn't they? And they wouldn't be general side effects, they would be known effects and the dosage to age/health ratio would be documented. No doubt prescribing massive amounts will have very negative effects. It's definitely not proven that using the 'correct' dosage is safe or that it cures the condition.
@sebkarlsson "if it was that simple they would be able to predict the outcome then wouldn't they?" No. They wouldn't be able to predict the outcome because measuring someone's health to their bodily reaction to a drug is not easy to calculate. What I wrote still stands. It depends on the person's constitution and their ability to deal with certain medications. It's a personal thing, and therefore it would be very hard to figure out whether or not someone would react well or ill until you try it.
pain or difficulty passing urine, confusion, abnormal production of milk in females, breast enlargement in both males and females, fever with increased sweating, and suicidal thoughts
@Corrupt5358 Everything you said is accurate. I have been on 75mg's of it with no issues. There are always cases where people have a bad reaction if this guy even had the reaction at all we'll never know
All the videos from this channel state the same common theme: "I don't think highly of psychiatric drugs at all." -must be a Scientology propaganda machine.
I hate what it's done to me and I'm going to try natural ways to help my migraines.
I had to go to the er because my resting pulse was 148 and bp was 142/93. My pulse is now always over 100. I'm constantly tired (not drowsy) and walking a couple blocks will completely drain me and I can't to anything else for the rest of the day. I feel like utter crap. These meds help some people but I would only suggest taking it if you absolutely need it.
@scryerofold It works perfectly with me: takes away headaches, helps with sleep, and has a small amount of antidepressant effect. I surely don't want them to take it off the market, because thousands of people need it.
I took Amitriplyne and at first it worked, but then slowly I started having bad physical and emotional reactions.
I would sleep walk. I would black out and not remember a damned thing I said or did.
My face would swell, and I gained 20+ lbs while taking it. The scariest part was blacking out and not remembering anything I said or did. It was like being in coma.
Looks like your a pharma plant. My videos and countless others show that these are peoples negative experiences and I have received countless messages confirming the same. There is NOTHING theoretical about the harm a lot of these drugs cause, unlike the promised cures from the drugs.
Amitriplyne is a very old SSRI and has been used for years. Of course, there are always ocassions where some people will react badly to a any kind of drug. Thats why proper research is done first. What about the thousans of people it has helped. This is just propaganda.
I'm not saying it hasn't helped someone (20% alone would be normal due to the placebo effect), I just haven't heard from any of them. I do keep hearing from people who had a rough time with it.
This guy obviously had a negative reaction to this drug, therefore he shouldn't take it. I have taken this drug for years and if I ever had a reaction like his I would stop also. Maybe something else would work for him. Anti-depressants help a lot of people including myself. Not every drug is right for everyone. The ones I take work for me and it did take a bit of experimentation to find the right combination.
I was put on Gabatril for headaches. I really thought I was a goner...couldn't talk...in and out of consciousness...psychosis...then when I got off of it...serious depression!
Not everyone takes this for psych problems. I take for migraines and this is the only drug out of 10 that helped. It helps my body run out of serotonin to use less often. Everyday it used to be the moment my body can't find serotonin, it goes into shock and I will throw up and can't even walk. If you took this drug away, I'd be more likely to kill myself without it than on it. I still laugh and cry, not a zombie at all. I think the people with bad effects are on too much. 150+MG is far too much.
Insanity: 1. the condition of being insane; a derangement of the mind.

Did you even understand my reply above? I'm saying I wouldn't bend over backwards to reason with someone who's having hallucinations. -yes these can be caused by physical illness (e.g. fever), but there are also mental states where these are brought on and it is a type of insanity.
Sorry to disappoint you draziom99 but my mums been on it longer than then years. She's better then ever and suffers no side effects. What works for some dons not work for others.
your mom is gonna have a heart attack and get kidney dialysis soon after the psychiatric drugs damages her organs after damaging her mind and brain cells further.
@Draziom203 Yeah because you are a member of the church of Scientology. Where one of you guys are better than a paramedic. I remember you bothering me on this page before. Please don't bother in future. I won't reply.
@shoegalsho What does Scientology have to do with the fact psychiatry/psychology are 2 pseudoscience cults?. Don't respond to me again. You're a waste of my precious time. Get lost.
Okay, this forum turned into a flaming session, so I've deleted a load of pointless argumentative comments. Make valid points here, but don't go crazy (pun not intended).
This also has nothing to do with Scientology or Scientologists, your belief about the religion/cult (it does fit into parts of both definitions!) are IMMATERIAL as to whether psych treatment and drugs work. The devil could say 2+2=4 and it would still be true.
"Also, can you explain Hallucination to me please? I mean I've encountered this during Mania and it seemed pretty real to me!" Draziom99, if she/he had hallucinations your point is mute, I wouldn't even discuss it with someone that far gone.
'That far gone' lol O.K sebkarisson you do realize that Hallucinations in Bipolar Disorder are caused by lack of sleep due to Mania? Something everyone could encounter. It's not the same as Schizophrenic or Schizoaffective hallucinations. I'm not 'far gone' at all as you put it! Like I said I have a successful job, three degrees and a family thanks to my medication. Would you call that someone who was 'Far gone'?
hallucinations are a symptom of mania, a type of psychotic behavior. It's pretty insane. I wouldn't try to reason with someone who had hallucinations, something most people would probably agree with me in. Glad you got a job, and family, hope all goes well for you.
No offense draziom99 but I'm someone speaking from experience not some cult propaganda Scientology film. Another thing look up Cult in the dictionary. Once again, they saved my life so thats at least one person chuck. I think you need to brush up on your Language skills because you don't really know the meaning of words like contradict and hypocrite and yes I know my tablets are good for me you don't need to tell me I have a life, job security etc etc. LOL you're mental!
If it's invented then why have you just agreed I have a diseased mind Draziom99. Little bit of contradiction sweetie! Oh and another thing Bipolar Disorder is not a chemical imbalance that depression. Also, can you explain Hallucination to me please? I mean I've encountered this during Mania and it seemed pretty real to me! But of course it's all fake! Also, before you ask I've never taken illegal drugs.
drazlom99-Not every person... you've spoken to me and I've told you it's saved my life! lol! Perhaps in your country the standard of Psychiatric medicine isn't as good as here in Scotland. We have excellent doctors and medical staff. The key is re-association with society not sedation and torture. Please do not try to ram your Scientology rubbish down my throat. I personally do not believe in Cults.
My mum has been on this drug for three years for Arthritis as it's used as a pain killer to in Scotland. She was depressed because of the pain she was in so it helped her in both ways. She swears by it and says it's the best drug in the world. She can drive, walk and most importantly sleep again!
I'm Bipolar and I can tell you right now I would be dead without Psychiatry. You obviously know little about Psychiatry. I was undiagnosed for ten years and was very VERY ill. Since being on medications and attending therapy I have a life again! Every other patient I've met feels exactly the same!
This helps more people than it hurts. NO WONDER this guy has a bad reaction! He was not only on Amitryptalline! He took Paxil along with it! Those two meds are NOT supposed to be mixed! No wonder he felt no emotions! What was his dr thinking!? I am able to feel ALL of my emotions and im on it. It helps so many people.
Keep in mind: This mans reaction is extremely RARE.
With ANY medication, even antibiotics, there is going to be some potential for a negative reaction. You have to weigh out the pros and cons. I have been on Amitryptalline for over a year now, and it has helped a lot with my anxiety and depression. I trust this more than I trust newer meds. It's been around since the 50's.
Too bad he had that bad reaction. My own mother took Elavil, and it was like a miracle. She took it for 3 months or so, and it lifted her out of a very deep depression. It also helped her sleep, and put on some weight which she needed.
I still take Amitriptyline. I have my bottle on my desk next to me. I have had many bad experiences. I freaked out and tryed to jump over my railing(20 foot drop). And cussed out my dad. Next day.. On and on and on.
This stuff is dangerous. I was on a very small dose and it caused me to fall several times and it put me in the ER for chest pain due to heart problems.
