@subaru47911 It's not a gearbox it's an adjuster for the prop angle, to give it different ratios, but also neutral and reverse. It was in the boat when I got it, and I don't know who made it.
So glad to see young talent, after I left High school I worried about kids after me. I hope your creativity spreads like wildfire.. I like the steering wheel sprocket. My question is. What did you use for the drive shaft and propeller? Also how did you seal the transom? Thanks!!
How well does that engine move that boat? im planning on building an 8 ft boat. I have a 3 hp briggs with a shaved head so its a little hot rodded. i also have a 5 hp that needs rebuilt. would my 3 horse move it okay?
@NathansBackwoods 3Hp sounds a bit small to me, but it doesen't hurt trying the 3hp first, if it doesn't work, you can just put the 5hp in, or something bigger.
@kiarra00, I saw a 5hp on a 14 ft boat, it scooted pretty good...so the 3 hp should do okay on an 8 ft, probably more like 4hp now...I will try it. Thanks
@thebigmann25 Yeah, I know that would be fun, but the boat has been sitting on land for a long time, just don't have time for it anymore. I might sell it to a friend of mine.
so this boat had every thing like the shaft and motor alredy built in it. cuz if it dident how would a person like me get plans to build something like this
@renton7585 It had a different motor in it, I modified it to fit a snowblower engine, I also custom made the steering setup, the rest wasn't made by me so I don't now a lot about how it was done or if it's built after drawings
@kiarra00 do you know what the boat was called and if there are other like it. by the way thanks for answering me. i plan on making one similar to yours but with a brigs motor i beefed up with a turbo. its really funny cuz i went from a 20 hp to like 50 since i added it on and did some other stuff like that, but really thanks if i could get the name of the boat or know what kind of boat its called it would be much appreciated
I had the same ieda inboard with a keel though ,,what kind of waterproof bearing do you use where prop is to keep boat dry and does motor setting at a slight angle hurt it [oil pump]?
@fullstrutn It just uses a bearing with an O-ring at the end, mutch like a car engine crankshaft end seal, it doesen't hurt the engine sitting in a very small angle like this one, but if it's more, it could not get proper lubrication.
@projecthog Yeah I know it's not the best camera work, but I had to do many things at the same time and it was the first trip so I didn't know how the controls reacted and stuff like that
@indigestive nope honda mowers suck had mine two years 5.5 garaged ,everything one day the piece of shit started ran a little died . rebuilt the carb still ran sucky.bought a briggs 6.5 flathead way more power (faster and in foot tall grass it doesn`t skip a beat and starts on first or second pull almost always first . and to my suprise it burn`t way less gas than the OHV Honda .always have a little left over in the tank for washing (it also has a washing system.
@indigestive I don't like Honda at all, they're to expencive, made to last only a specified time before everything breaks and they're not as easy to work on as good ol' Briggs!
Cool, I like the sound of that engine and it seems to do well. Hmm, I am real curious as to where you have piped that exaust hehe. And why didn't you gun it! Turn that sucker into a speed boat, scare your friend haha Thanks for sharing
I have never measured it, but it feels like its going around 18 mph, or 15 nautical knots. It goes a lot faster with the briggs, because it has higher rpms, the old JAP had around 3000 max, but the briggs has around 5500 - 6000 max, but we mostly run it at around 4000 rpm.
I have no idea who made it. I think its made here in Norway, and made in the 1950s, but im not sure about it. When i bout it had the original, but broken JAP engine from the 1950s
Looks like you could wind up with roasted nuts while steering. Probably nice in the winter but it looks like it might be hot in the summer.

what did you use for a gearbox, and how did you set up the shaft. I'm thinking of making one myself with a ten horse. Pretty awesome boat!!

make the exhaust go in the water it would be less noisy
coteya 2 years ago
then the water would would choke out the engine if it was in the water!!!
1972FordF150 2 years ago
umm alot of motor have pipe underwater
coteya 2 years ago
yeah and you loose power that way too!! it would require MORE POWER to push the exuast out under water than above the water!!!!!!!!!!!
1972FordF150 2 years ago 2
thats why you got two muffler on an out board
coteya 2 years ago
??? learn how to speak english please! I am not under standing your comment very well !!!
1972FordF150 2 years ago
almost all outboards have the exhaust underwater, if anything, its helping the motor: more backpressure.
CanadianRednecks95 2 years ago
oh yeah I never thaught of that, but when the engine is not running it can splash in the engine if there is a big enough wave.
