Guys, this ending was shot for the sole reason of using it if the show was un-cancelled at the last minute. It wasn't, so it was cut.

The reason why this alternate ending wasn't chosen in the final cut was logical. Think about it, the Mary that Dick abducted, is the Mary who has no knowledge of Dick's existence. Thus becoming a frightened woman who was abducted by aliens. Bit of a harsh ending if you think about it really.

I like to think that Mary, as an anthropologist, would actually enjoy the chance to learn about a completely alien society. Sure, she would miss Earth, but she didn't really have that much tying her there. I like to think she would eventually fit in and maybe even join in future missions. This is definitely the ending I choose to believe. The original was touching, but I always thought the show should end with a laugh.

Heh I remember watching this one and I liked the ending.  Then a couple years later it was on again and my dad asked me to record it to him, and they cut the part in the end where Mary was abducted. I was so disappointed, but at least I was able to tell my dad about it.

Yeah I'd avoid the other one if you haven't seen it. It was one of but just a few sad moments in the show, which really doesn't fit since greater than 99% of the time it's a comedy... this is the actual ending as far as I'm concerned. ^.^
