Each component should be of good tasty quality. there are cheap lettuce and tomatoes that just tast like water. With any burger it is not a matter of put a lot of cheap things together and they will come together and taste good. NO!
For example The tomatoes. These alone are prepared before I even put them in the burger.
A sprinkling of Cajun spices on Tomatoes works wonders.
Mayo salt and pepper with lettuce works well (Sauce should not be a filler but an acsent to a burger.)
When making my burgers I section it into various components. Each complimenting the other.
There is the bread (Bun)
The Salad
and the cooked components.
The bread should be big enough but also a light toasting is prefered. To add extra appeal bread with a higher density almost like a floury pizza dough is good.
Salad doesnt need to be complex lettuce, tomatoe, onion (can be cooked or raw but small amounts if raw. best to lightly sear)

To me a good burger is:
Not oily and full of sauce and also well balanced in terms of meat to salad ratio. Not like a fast cheap food outlet like Makdollars or some other slapped together by a slave worker with as much pride as a door mat.
The burger itself should be dressed with lemon juice and once again these ....
